St. Michaels Golf Club

About
St. Michael's Golf Club sits atop Gallow Hill, providing spectacular views past the River Eden to the historic buildings of St. Andrews. The course sprawls across a prehistoric settlement that is protected by Historic Scotland. The terrain is an interesting mix of wooded parkland and undulating heathland with a well-draining sandy base. The golf course features small greens and narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. While it may not have the prestige or the classic links layout of St. Andrews, St. Michael's Golf Club offers just as formidable a test. The challenges begin immediately on the first hole, an uphill par 4 with a fairway that slopes right to left. St. Michael's signature hole is the par-3 15th, which many consider to be the most demanding short hole in Fife. There is a large dip to the left and rear of the green, a bunker to the front right, and out-of-bounds to the left and on the railway line behind.

The 15th Par 3 Photo submitted by BJK77 on 10/14/2020
2nd time playing 1st was 4 weeks ago enjoyed it 1st time 2nd was just as good apart from my game which was a mess but will definitely be back
Great course
Course was in fantastic shape.
First round on this course and found it was very tricky. Really enjoyed it, Members were very friendly and helpful. Would go again
A day to remember.
We were lucky with the weather. The course was in very nice condition considering the dry summer we've had. Its challenging enough, but fair and playable for a mid handicapper. Ive played St Michaels a few times now. The greens are always lovely. The clubhouse was friendly and accommodating. I would recommend a visit for any golfer visiting the area.
Still great value and great fun to play. Course extremely dry and bare due to recent hot/dry weather although the greens were still excellent. Hopefully yesterday's thunderstorms will have improved this and returned the course to it's usual high standard.
A very enjoyable round
Up on holiday looking for a game had an 11.40am teetime cracking course 👍 a few testing holes was let through by a couple of old boys in a cart.there 15th signature hole a downhill par 3 is a tester rail line and road at the back of it would definitely play again if am back up have already recommended to a few pals
Weather helped
First time playing here and had a really good day. The course is very well laid out, wasn't busy so maybe helped us that there was no one on adjacent fairways when a tee shot went astray.
The weather really helped us it was a beautiful sunny day with very little wind. Think it would be a challenging course in the wind, some holes are wide open to the elements. Greens were in fabulous condition considering the dry spell we've had, some of the fairways were a bit brown and dry for the very same reason.
Would certainly recommend here for a round, but look at the weather forecast before you go!
Cracker of a course!
We booked this a couple of days before we played and got a fabulous hot deal of £26.99 each. Loved the small clubhouse and friendly staff, wished we’d arrived earlier to sample the pie, beans and chips!
The golf course was in great condition and very playable though there are some tricky holes and gorse bushes to gobble up a stray shot.
Would definitely recommend.
Brilliant golf course
Great golf course lots of parking spaces.
Staff we're very friendly in club house and the green keepers all spoke and told us the greens were running very fast . Hard working also seen plenty of them throughout and all spoke and acknowledged us
Some holes are challenging. .
after our round we enjoyed some lunch burgers, toasties and I even got a free cake as it was my birthday excellent service and great value for money all round can't wait to play again soon .
Hills
Got there early. Had a cold beer inside… putting green right out front.
No starter no ranger. Was put with another twosome (not golfers). Slow play just kept looking for balls two fairways over. Let lots of players play thru …5 hour round….
Club house locked up at 6:00
Just right for me
I had heard it was hilly, so I was a little concerned.
I opted to take a pull trolley and managed fairly well.
Greens were very good and faster than I was use to.
Great views.
The greenkeepers had worked very hard to get the course in great shape. I really enjoyed it.
St Michael's Golf Club
St Michael's is a good community course which over the years has gone from a 9 hole course to an 18 hole course today. They are very different 9's and a very good challenge. Well worth the visit and price.
Wednesday evening solo play
Booked this course after looking around and speaking to some of my work colleagues.
The staff are friendly when you enter and they have a decent sized clubhouse. If you’re after some balls they offer 4 used for £1 that all goes to charity - great idea.
The course played well with enough space for some wild drives - I seemed to have an issue today with getting off the tee. Greens are in good condition and most are elevated.
The front 9 I think is easier than the back 9 with a great par 3 played from high up with a monster bunker waiting for you if you’re short.
Overall I’d strongly recommend this course - I only paid £20 for a 16:30 tee time.
