Quirky & Stuck in the 1900s

Greens in great condition for early May!

Too many blind shots.

Back 9 better than front 9

Clubhouse was like stepping back in time, very old fashioned & no atmosphere, albeit the staff were welcoming.

My First Ever Negative Review

I played Irvine Golf Club during the summer and know how good it is.

Bearing in mind that we have had one of the warmest and driest summers in the last ten years followed by a so far mild autumn with above average temperatures, no frosts and average rain fall i was bewildered, near disgusted, to turn up for a game at this links course today (4 November) and be told that winter rules were in place (from 1st November every year).

The sun was shining with a mild breeze and the course was dry underfoot. Why on earth did i have to tee off from uneven winter mats which were placed well forward of the ladies tees then move my ball from the fairways into the first cut of ruff. The bunkers were in play and the greens were running lovely.

Why has it become an automated process in Scotland, especially at links courses to place a course under winter rules on a specified date, surely these decisions should be made based on the weather.

Granted, i am a visitor at this course but given that i know how much the annual fees are, i would be livid if i joined Irvine Golf Club only to find that this policy was in place and it curtailed my golfing this early in the year.

I don't believe that the condition of golf courses is dramatically improved by these policies as they didn't really exist in the 80's and 90's. Courses are so much better now because of the staff training, workmanship and the modern equipment used to maintain them.

West coast challenge

Play this course you will enjoy.

Some blind shots but most are open past the pole marker.

You can hit your driver if accurate and get the green with next shot if not accurate you won’t.

Some different style holes very enjoyable to play.

3.5 hours 4 ball and 5 lost balls .

GOOD DAY OUT THANKS GOLF NOW.

Great course

Weather was fantastic. The staff were friendly and we had a great round of golf.

Some bunkers were so tall you did not want to land in them.

A good variety of holes.

Fantastic links fun

I love playing James Braid courses, and this one is right up there with the best I've played, lots of fun approach shots with blind tee shots and elevations changes. Every hole has character, length off the tee not essential but controlling aproaches key. There's been a dry spell recently so the course was nicely baked out and brown, greens in great condition not a single dried out spot I could see with a sneaky bit of pace too. A classic links test .

Fantastic day had

On arrival we got parked and checked in. The pro told us where to tee off and told us about the clubhouse facilities and the practice green and nets. We had a wee hit and then teed off. The fairways were all burnt due to the recent good weather and the greens were excellent. The only hole we thought let the course down slightly was the 6th. After teeing off straight at a marker the ball should be found on the fairway.over the hill. Instead over the hill is a heather verge and the ball was nowhere to be seen. In our opinion it should be fairway all the way to the green. A couple of the holes skirt the railway line so you need to avoid wayward shots. Some of the bunkers were brutally difficult to get out of. Can't wait to come back and try again.

Great links golf

Played today 25/7/21 so it’s been insanely warm for ages now and course was very dry but so are most courses the now. Really enjoyed my round great links golf and a really good test. Some really great memorable holes will definitely be back. Pro shop staff were very welcoming and gave great info on the course with some tips, top man who works in the shop. Only slight negative was pace of play was very slow but it was a Sunday afternoon so need to expect a busy course at they times. Two ball in front let me pass but soon got held up again.
