Rating 67.7

The Ratho Park Golf Club offers a true parkland course. It is built within the park of a Georgian mansion. The golf course is reckoned as one of James Braid's finest creations; the golfer and designer opened it with a match against Harry Vardon in 1928.

Ratho Park Golf Club is an easily walked course, measuring just 6003 yards, and features several challenging holes at different lengths. A round of golf kicks off on Corstorphine, a par 4 that measures 258 yards from the white tees. The Long Hole, as it is named, is the 11th, a 519-yard par-5 monster.

You'll be thinking clubhouse by the time you reach The Terrace, the 360-yard par-4 18th. Then that's exactly where you should head, as the Ratho Park Golf Club's bar and restaurant will serve your needs and soothe your feet seven days a week.

Pace of Play: slow walkers ahead and got cosy with a few balls from people behind too, unsure if this is a frequent occurrence.

Course conditions: perhaps I’m being a little harsh due to the fees but I expected a lot better, half the fairwarda has patches of grass missing and of course there’s a road going through many holes.

Staff Friendliness: fella at the pro shop was a nice guy, that’s the only staff we met.

Value for money: £65 is far too much for an average course like this, you’re paying for exclusivity and a nice castle to have a beer in.

Course layout: pretty average, bunch of straight lines. Having to go for a hike from 2 to 3 is surprising.

Off course amenities: best part about this place. Great place to put your stuff, have food, nice little range and putting area to warm up.

Ratho

Overall, a good course, with some short par 4’s and a relatively good course for a mid handicapper.

It’s a very peaceful course, which is perfect.

Condition was good for the time of year. With some of the other courses I have played, I don’t think £50 a head was an accurate reading.

Apart from the price being, in my opinion, a little high, it’s a good course which I would recommend.

Nice course, too expensive for what it is.

Title kinda sums everything up, I’ve played many times with members over the past 18 months. Golf course is nice enough but fairly basic and no stand out holes. Shorter parkland course but it is REALLY let down by the pricing. £65 to play is a joke.

For reference the dukes course in St Andrews is £80 for a Scottish resident and blows this course out of the water in terms of amenities and course layout/length/condition. The kittocks course as well is only £70 and you are minutes from the old course. (Not affiliated to either)

Many of the course in Edinburgh are cheaper than this (Baberton is £55, kingsknowes is £30, Swanston is £50 to name a few) and unfortunately think that due to its proximity to dalmahoy (also overpriced, course condition is worse as well) that it has bumped its prices up to suit its neighbour

Really unfortunate and I think many first timers would feel hard done by after playing it for this price.

Gem of a course

A beautiful parkland course 15mins from central Edinburgh. The course is set in the grounds of a stately home and was in excellent condition.

The course is very attractive with a selection of challenging holes. The green were superb. Ratho Park is a real gem of a course.

Autumn Golf

Played Ratho for the first time on a pleasant Sunday afternoon. I was told from various sources beforehand that this is shortish, relatively flat, well conditioned course and I cannot disagree. The layout of the course is very good, with holes 9,14 and 15 being the standouts, however course conditioning is the real winner here! Greens and fairways were in superb condition for late October, I can only imagine it's absolutely pristine in peak summer

Enjoyed playing this course as a preview to playing at end of May..friendly staff and as a solo player paired up with member.. So thanks Brian for the guidance and chat..only thing to watch is the entry road as it goes through the course to the clubhouse..be aware of golfers on the tees and fairways..

Fantastic course

Played as a guest for the first time here with a friend.

Absolutely loved this course and will certainly be playing it again.

Course is forgiving on the fairways but some tricky pin positions.

Didn't even play.

The sat nav took me down a dead end, so I was running close to my 0900 tee time. I got to the 1st tee and pro shop at just before 5 to 9 and the pro told me the group I was supposed to be with had already teed off. He offered me a later tee time, but I had other plans that day. I gave him my email address and he said the secretary would email me on Monday either to arrange another date to play or so I could contact golf now for a refund.............. Nothing heard yet.
