Holes 18
Type
Style Parkland
Par 70
Length 5914 yards
Slope 126
Rating 69.4

Niddry Castle Golf Club offers 18 holes of par-70 golf over 5,914 yards, providing a good course for all levels and ability of player. Magnificent vistas provide a glimpse of the Pentland Hills, and the holes all offer their own unique tests and hazards - plus there's a castle smack-dab in the middle. If you can control your shots and manage a solid golf course, then this patch of parkland ought to be on your itinerary for any golf trip to Scotland.

Fire away at Cannons Drive, the Niddry Castle Golf Club's 198-yard par-3 first hole, featuring a green that slopes away. The long hole is the sixth, Castle View, a par-5 524-yarder - pick right or left of the fairway at the tee to avoid sticking yourself behind a large tree for the second shot. Gan Hame, the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 404 yards, provides a superb finishing hole, with an elevated tee shot to a fairway that features trees on both sides.

If you're going in winter, when the club sees fewer players, Niddry Castle Golf Club offers golf-and-coffee specials.

Niddry Castle great course

The course is quite tough due to many hidden greens. The second is a tough drive for low hitters as the bank in front needs a bit of loft to get over it. Overall really enjoyed the challenge.

Course

The course is in very bad shape, greens with barely any grass on them , fairways very dry with burnt grass not very good at all. £35 for a round on this course in its condition was very expensive

Poor Greens

Greens were cut to regular fairway lengths and fairways were cut to regular rough length and so on…layout will get you killed! Tee boxes in the middle of other holes fairways and blind shots everywhere! Shooting straight at people on most holes! Awful course

First time at Niddry Castle

Played on a really hot day as a three ball on a Friday afternoon and saw just a handful of other players although there were several ladies who'd just finished. I think this is a shame as its a lovely course, kept really well by, I understand, just one and a half greens staff. Well done boys - it was in great condition.

Everyone we met was really friendly and keen to help and I'd describe the clubhouse as 'old school'. The meals being served looked tasty and the Tennents was ice cold. The prices were perfect too.

Greens were a tad long for my liking but tees, bunkers and fairways were in great nick. Layout was quirky and undulating with the hills not too steep. The course had lots of 'next tee' signs and marker posts to make sure first time visitors like us, didn't get lost. I also liked the way the holes played near and around the Castle as well and after the the third, most holes had nice views across the W Lothian countryside.

All in all a great day's golf on a lovely, quiet course. Absolutely recommend it to everyone - pay your £30 or thereabouts and have a relaxing, enjoyable and stress free round.

Decent course, good value

The course was not bad, not the best course I’ve ever played but for £20 or somewhere around that area you can’t argue with that, only criticism would be the tee box grass was very long but apart from that course was decent staff super friendly and pace wasn’t the worst

What a course

5* Pace of Play: wasn’t very busy and we weren’t being hurried from behind by a scratch solo nor were we be slowed down from in front by a slow 4ball. Couldn’t be better.

4* Course Conditions: generally good, a few spots on the green which were being tended to is the only reason this isn’t a perfect score but still excellent.

5* Staff Friendliness: Greeted by Club Captain Mike who showed us around and gave us some tips to begin with. In the middle of the round approached by another member of staff who ensure we knew how to get out safely once finished. Another perfect catagory.

5* Value for money: both the membership and visitor tee fees being so affordable for this course is a steal.

5* Course Layout: If I could give 6* for course layout I would. One of the best courses I have had the pleasure of playing it is such a hidden gem. Especially holes 2,3,4,7,17 and 18.

4* Off Course Anemities: Despite having practice nets and a putting area, its artificial grass on the putting area and no driving range to fully practice on. Clubhouse seems nice. Definitely has all you need and definitely great value but just a little shy from what it needs regards to be perfect.

Can’t wait to play again.

Greens thicker than the rough!

A quirky layout with plenty of gettable par 4s. Greens were so long that I gave up putting half way through. I've played on many fairways with shorter grass than the greens here. Also not kept well.

The clubhouse was not open on arrival so nowhere to get a scorecard from, nor a drink. The directions to the first tee could be better.

Would not return.

Accuracy Essential

Loved the variety of the 18 holes. There are a few blind shots but that added to the challenge. The course for this time of year was in good condition. (In my opinion) Lovely setting with Niddrie Castle the central feature of the course. Not the longest of courses, but that suited me with accuracy a key part to lower scores as danger is all around. Overall, I enjoyed my round and will certainly come back again.

Great value

All in all a good fun course. Greens were a bit of a lottery and fairways were a bit on the long-cut side but it was April and, probably most importantly, it was 30-quid - which felt is good value for an 18 with plenty variety and a nice feature in having the castle as a centre piece. Will play again for sure.
