Niddry Castle Golf Club
About
Niddry Castle Golf Club offers 18 holes of par-70 golf over 5,914 yards, providing a good course for all levels and ability of player. Magnificent vistas provide a glimpse of the Pentland Hills, and the holes all offer their own unique tests and hazards - plus there's a castle smack-dab in the middle. If you can control your shots and manage a solid golf course, then this patch of parkland ought to be on your itinerary for any golf trip to Scotland.
Fire away at Cannons Drive, the Niddry Castle Golf Club's 198-yard par-3 first hole, featuring a green that slopes away. The long hole is the sixth, Castle View, a par-5 524-yarder - pick right or left of the fairway at the tee to avoid sticking yourself behind a large tree for the second shot. Gan Hame, the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 404 yards, provides a superb finishing hole, with an elevated tee shot to a fairway that features trees on both sides.
If you're going in winter, when the club sees fewer players, Niddry Castle Golf Club offers golf-and-coffee specials.

Wind made it a test
We booked Niddry castle as it was available and relatively close to home. A nice open course made challenging by the windy conditions..
Decent course
Decent course but get a map as there is a couple of crossovers which can confuse you but overall I would defo recommend this course.
Castle Adventure
Really enjoyed first round at this course. Found it quite challenging with no prior knowledge as quite a few blind holes. Never got lost as next tee signs were really good. Great views of Niddrie Castle from most holes. You have stay on the fairway on most holes as grass cuttings weren't collected which made finding the ball difficult. Will definitely be back.
Service from the starter was great
The gentleman that welcomed me to the course was friendly and welcoming. Helped with directions and a few things of note around the course. The course itself is varied and had some interesting holes. I felt the fairways were a touch too long and when I didn’t ht them the chances of finding the ball in even the first cut was pretty low, (played myself) a fair few blind shots probably didn’t help with seeing the ball down. The course is pretty hilly and some of the tees are right back down the hole you just played. Thankfully I had a photo of the course map (suggested by the starter) so that definitely helped me. Overall the course was nice and tidy just a few little things that could have elevated the experience like water in the ball washers, some additional signage maybe helpful. But it does have a lot going for it if you like a bit of a hike. Members I met were friendly. Greens were very nice and some great views of the castle.
Brilliant
My first time on the course and will definitely be back, some really good holes you have to think about how to play it, the course is stunning to look at with the castle and hills, the staff are all very friendly and helpful
Cracking wee find
If your looking for a great looking course without too much difficulty this is a great wee find. Course was in really good nick and the greens were fantastic. I will definitely be back
Great course
Very well kept, greens are slightly longer than normal but that is understandable for longevity over the summer months, played on a Tuesday and basically had the course to ourselves with some lovely views and sunshine
Great wee track
start of season golf, and the course is still soft but on full tees and greens. Course in decent condition for time of year, and the layout of the course is really interesting, some really good holes
Great value for money , good mix of long drives and tricky par 3a
Very welcoming , fun layout , great scenery …. Greens played very well considering the weather we have had recently.
Highly recommend this course
First of the year
Great wee course for the first round of the year back to it. Set up is very good and some really challenging but fun holes. Even with the bad weather we have had and the frost had all 18 normal greens in play which makes all the world of difference and at the price for the winter visitor tee times a thoroughly enjoyable experience
Niddry Castle great course
The course is quite tough due to many hidden greens. The second is a tough drive for low hitters as the bank in front needs a bit of loft to get over it. Overall really enjoyed the challenge.
Course
The course is in very bad shape, greens with barely any grass on them , fairways very dry with burnt grass not very good at all. £35 for a round on this course in its condition was very expensive
Poor Greens
Greens were cut to regular fairway lengths and fairways were cut to regular rough length and so on…layout will get you killed! Tee boxes in the middle of other holes fairways and blind shots everywhere! Shooting straight at people on most holes! Awful course
First time at Niddry Castle
Played on a really hot day as a three ball on a Friday afternoon and saw just a handful of other players although there were several ladies who'd just finished. I think this is a shame as its a lovely course, kept really well by, I understand, just one and a half greens staff. Well done boys - it was in great condition.
Everyone we met was really friendly and keen to help and I'd describe the clubhouse as 'old school'. The meals being served looked tasty and the Tennents was ice cold. The prices were perfect too.
Greens were a tad long for my liking but tees, bunkers and fairways were in great nick. Layout was quirky and undulating with the hills not too steep. The course had lots of 'next tee' signs and marker posts to make sure first time visitors like us, didn't get lost. I also liked the way the holes played near and around the Castle as well and after the the third, most holes had nice views across the W Lothian countryside.
All in all a great day's golf on a lovely, quiet course. Absolutely recommend it to everyone - pay your £30 or thereabouts and have a relaxing, enjoyable and stress free round.
Decent course, good value
The course was not bad, not the best course I’ve ever played but for £20 or somewhere around that area you can’t argue with that, only criticism would be the tee box grass was very long but apart from that course was decent staff super friendly and pace wasn’t the worst
