Turnhouse Golf Club

About
Turnhouse Golf Club debuted as a nine-holer in 1897, but expanded to 18 by 1900. A wooden hut was its first clubhouse - perhaps, on the 15th, you can hear ghosts of the original golfers washing away their rounds - and sold tea for sixpence, with meat costing a shilling. Not much happened on the golf course until 1924, when James Braid surveyed the course and suggested improvements, and then again, in 1950, when the current seventh and eighth holes were created.
Turnhouse Golf Club is a par-69 golf course with a standard-scratch rating of 70 running 6,060 yards. The golf course ranks third for number of par-4 holes longer than 400 yards in the Lothians. Sitting atop Lennie Hill, the golf course offers magnificent 360-degree views: On clear days golfers can glimpse the mountains of the Scottish Highlands (north), the River Forth (east), the Pentland Hills (south) and the old coal bings of Broxburn (west).
In other good news, the Turnhouse Golf Club's clubhouse is no longer a wooden hut; in not-so-good news, the prices of liquids and solids in the bar have gone up.

Salty Course the first time you play.
Wonderful staff as we arrived. We booked online and called ahead for electronic trolleys. All was waiting when we arrived. The driving range was on mats but well done. The course plays much longer than the card shows. Lots of role. Greens had just been punch and were long so a bit slow. Some blind shots but we were given advice ahead of time from the staff. Highly recommend electric trolleys, some hills to be climbed. Over all a great experience and would play again. With experience it would play even better. But don’t let that stop you from playing this course.
Sunny Summer afternoon at Turnhouse
Good practice and warm up facilities. Great roll on the greens, tho a bit slow compared to my home course that's been baking for the last two months. Fairways tight in places between trees and along side field boundaries but in lovely condition. A few blind tee shots and some blind approaches which made it tricky for a visitor and a little frustrating. Keeping the ball in play is rewarded by good scoring. Well worth a visit.
Fantasies experience at Turnhouse
Visiting from the States so it’s always a little unnerving walking into an unfamiliar place. They staff made me feel welcome as soon as I walked in. They treated me like a regular and toward the end of the round I was lucky enough to be invited to join a threesome that was playing in front of me. These guys were first class…Ricky, Martin, and Liam made the experience 5 star! Cheers guys! My wife and I hope to return to Scotland again and when we do I will be sure to play another round at Turnhouse! Cheers Mates!
Hidden gem on outskirts of Edinburgh
First time playing Turnhouse GC in a very long time. Completely forgot it was there. Staff were very friendly, and informative, giving good tips and guidance round the 18. As for the course, I was literally blown away, not only by the 35mph gusts, but the over conditions. Beautifully looked after, in fantastic condition from tee to flag. The course flows from hole to hole and was a challenge regardless of conditions. Will most certainly return very soon.
Well played TGC.
Turnhouse Golf Club - winter course layout
Weather was 2oc but with wind chill it was -2oc, so course was using temp greens but and its a big but these temp greens where quick and true, no bumps or lumps, I was shocked at the quality of the winter greens. Great layout and interesting views over the airport and a bonus getting to see planes land. Will definitely be going back to experience the course in the summer.
Winter Golf
Played for first time. Specifically chosen as Golf Now hot deal and no playing restrictions. On playing found winter tees, not advised when booking and winter greens on 5 holes, again not advertised when booking. Also paid £40 as hot deal, would have been much cheaper booking direct and Golf shop was really surprised that's what Golf now charged.
Overall very unhappy with Golf Now, probably unfair on course.
Great course. In good condition. Greens were immaculate.

Great course
This is quickly becoming a favourite of mine. Length is just right off the yellows for me, challenging but gettable. Some really fun holes, the 3rd and 4th combo is great. Awesome course design too with fairway bunkers and trees just causing enough work for the course management side of things without being too oppressive. Greens were fantastic despite some rain that day and at the start of our round (though I had a terrible day with the flat stick, but user error not the facilities!) I highly recommend this course to all
Amazing value course
Just an outstanding course and value is great. Will recommend to friends if they visit scotland.
Turnhouse
Super wee course. Staff very friendly. Buggies / walking could be an issue. Very noisy with planes .
Outstanding course, extremely accommodating to travelers
Staff and members could not have been any friendlier. Course was in great shape and was a blast to play
Fantastic Venue
Such a friendly and helpful welcome set the scene for a great day. Excellent value with the course in great condition with some interesting holes, would be better for knowing. Excellent Pro, good course, great food & drink, Would recommend to anyone is nearby.
Bit Hilly
Good course a bit hilly, difficult to follow (3d fairway) and 5th T. The 5th winter T was still marked and we were led away but apart from the heavy rain I would recommend it but caveat a buggy is definitely needed for old gits like me👍
Beautiful views
A lovely Scottish evening at Turnhouse. We liked the layout. We both preferred the back 9 with some nice holes in the last 5. Some fantastic views of the Airport, planes taking off and across Edinburgh. Warm and no wind certainly help our enjoyment- losing on the last green to a quality 4 didn’t help mine 😁. Lovely course, really easy to find and park.
