Don’t really understand people’s reviews not being as good as I thought this course was brilliant and pretty difficult with a bunch of varied challenging holes that really require good skill set to get round. Whole place is designed brilliantly and for £20 is magnificent value for money.
Some really great holes
Westerwood Golf Course had some notable challenges during my recent visit. The drainage on the course appeared to be very poor, leaving the fairways and rough quite damp throughout the round. This made for some difficult and unstable footing, particularly in the landing areas off the tee.
The tee boxes also seemed to be in need of some maintenance work. Many of them had uneven and patchy grass coverage, which can impact the consistency of tee shots.
Overall, while the course conditions presented some challenges, the layout and green complexes at Westerwood can still make for an enjoyable round of golf. With some improvements to the drainage and tee box maintenance, this could be a solid option for golfers in the area looking for a reasonable test. I'd recommend calling ahead to check on the current course conditions before booking your tee time.
Mixed feedback
Played sat 7th sep for the first time at this course I'm about it 5 years.
Reception staff were good and checked me in fine. Tee was quite busy and the old starter box is no longer in use so you just need to ask about for who's first.
Course very very wet in most places. Greens very slow
Bunkers were not generally in good condition with poor standard of sand
Lay out is good and a good mix of holes between par 3,4 and 5s
Transition areas between holes generally quite poor and since they have redesigned the course the route between 12 and 14 is quite complex.
Pace of play was quite slow on the day but probably not helped with fog and a few specific slow players. Was a 4 hour round for a 2 ball
Clubhouse restaurant was really good with really friendly staff and I thought good value. Would go back to the restaurant in its own right.
It was good getting a Saturday morning tee time but it's a wet long slog and I'm not sure I'd rush back to the golf course for a while
Wet but great.
Great course. Greens were superb. Course was a little bit wet. But thats typical for playing in Scotland. The course was playing long and struggled to reach par 4 holes in 2. But that was probably due to us. Would definitely be back soon. The lady in the pro shop was really friendly and nice to have a chat with.
Buggy paths are awful
The buggy paths are worst I've ever seen. They are loaded with enormous holes. It was almost easier to drive on the rough.
Very good course. At a great price
Course is very good. The sat we played it was saturated due to heavy rain but was playable. It's a good layout with some tricky holes but enjoyable.
Staff were very friendly and the facilities in the hotel are very good. All in all this is a great value for money round. Well with a visit.
Ok
The course was in good condition but there were some distance from some greens to the next tee box. The day we played was really slow and the rough was long so take plenty of balls.
Good value for the aspiring golfer
Teed off at 0830 on a Sunday morning and hardly saw anyone else on the course… my kind of golf. Managed to get a nice practice round in and a great catch up with a friend. I thought the greens were quite inconsistent but I may be a bit harsh given the price of the round!
Decent enough for £22
Of course it could be in better condition but I wasn't expecting Gleneagles quality for £22. We enjoyed our round and will probably play again in the future.
Poor. Not great value for money
Course not in great condition. Overpriced. All 3 golfers took own vehicles and all got a parking fines won’t be back and would not recommend coming here
Great course and tricky
Myself and my brother in law were first to tee off today and the course was in great condition and a lovely day aswell. Some really technical holes and some beautiful areas. The only issue we had was the walk up hill from the 12th to 13th which took around 10mins to walk to it which allowed the people behind us in the buggy to catch up on us. Would recommend getting a buggy for next time
Great Course
Really enjoyed the course. It was a little water logged at parts but all round a good time. If you are looking for variation, steep inclines and declines, this course will do just fine.
Staff are very friendly. Can also recommend a cold beer at the 19th hole.
Absolutely shocking!
I can’t believe this course was in such shocking condition. Greens had 4-5 different types of grass on each of them, all cut to different lengths. Diseased greens, zero care taken anywhere on the course. The flags can’t even stand up straight up in the holes as they are so worn out. Weeds growing in bunkers etc etc etc…….
I’ll certainly not be back!
Wasted day
The tone of the day was set as soon as we walked into the starters office and were told by a frosty old fella, before he even said good morning, that there was a medal on and if we encountered any slow play we would not be allowed to play through.
We (myself and 2 playing partners) moved up to the first tee and stood about 40 feet back as there was a group teeing off. One of my partners might have made a noise (I didn’t hear anything) as another frosty old fella teeing off, turned and growled ‘right on my f&cking backswing mate’. They left the tee still moaning and took 20 minutes to complete the first hole. Don’t know if it was deliberate slow play or not but after 2 hours we had completed only 6 holes and after 4 hours only 12 holes, with neither an apology or acknowledgment offered from the 3 ball in front. We decided to walk off at this point and met the refreshments buggy with course staff aboard, they asked if everything was ok and we explained that we had payed £28 each and had our day ruined. They simply said that they knew who was in the 3 ball ahead of us and that one of them had a bad hip 🤷♂️
£84 for a 3 ball for 12 holes on an average, poorly maintained course with snobby entitled members and rude staff…
Needless to say I wouldn’t recommend this course and will not return there…
