Apple Mountain Golf Resort
About
Nestled in the rolling hills of Gold Country, Apple Mountain Resort has a dramatic landscape that provides plenty of elevation changes, making it a nearly impossible course to walk. Some of the drops from tee to green are unbelievable, offering unrivaled views of the surrounding mountains. Nearly every hole enjoys a stunning backdrop. The incredibly diverse terrain makes the golf course a challenge regardless of whether you are a novice or a pro. Golfers will have to contend with mature trees, water hazards, and numerous strategically placed bunkers in addition to the uneven lies and blind shots that are a result of the undulating landscape. Apple Mountain Resort's golf course is especially nice to play in the summer since its location enjoys a temperature that is at least a few degrees cooler than the Sacramento Valley.

Perfect Day
Very Happy with the course condition. Some of the front 9 greens had been sanded, but it didn't effect the roll. Overall, the course was in good condition.
Wonderfully Challenging
Great course for the price. Has everything to challenge and reward you. It's one of my favorite courses between Tahoe and Bay Area!
Bad Timing
I’m just giving average review because it was cart path only play. We only played front nine because our age(71). The course was dry. We were exhausted when finished. The greens were horrible. Like I said, plugging and sanding was a timing issue.
I really love the beauty of the course, but if you a want a nice lie, you need to go elsewhere. Great practice though. It’s either an uphill or downhill. Nothing in between for us.
Have fun enjoy the views and use your foot wedge freely.
First time visit
Apple Mountain offers an immersive experience across hole with rolling hills and wildlife. Each hole offers a unique challenge but is also a great place to just get away next time you visit.
Slow pace of the play but had a great time.
Perfect weather in the mid-70’s with some breeze. Good for short sleeve shirts but not for shorts yet. Maybe another month. Returned to the Apple Mountain golf course for the first time in 3 plus years. Appeared made some good improvements in the course but still there are some things that need to be done. Bunkers need to be cleaned and the greens need to be worked on. Fairway markers are not visible. Tee boxes should be cleaned and leveled. Pro shop staff are friendly and efficient. The “bossy “ attitude of the staff seemed gone. Pro shop has ample merchandise for their customers. They have planted some apple trees on the slopes that is great. In a few years players may be able to enjoy some fresh apples during the play!??!!
Poor adherence to pace of play
Had a frustrating early weekend tee time experience. We pay a premium to tee off early on the weekends and expect a healthy pace of play. Unfortunately by 8:30 the groups were already 20 minutes behind pace. My 8:40 group tee’d off closer to 9:05. The worst part was the 8:30 foursome tee’d off, then split into two groupings in the first fairway. The Marshall failed to require them to play together. All of the golfers were clearly new to the game and likely should have been provided a refund and a bucket of balls to the range. Instead, after a 2:45 minute front 9 I quit at the turn. It was also obnoxious that the Marshall was still insistent that we were “on pace” according to the posted 4:40 guidance, which should be viewed as worst case, not best case. It would be nice if courses encouraged a 4 hour pace.
Beautifully Brutal
Stunningly beautiful...but slopes were killing me. Pretty challenging course. First time out there but will definitely be back. Overall, a GREAT day golfing.
Course was in excellent shape.
Great layout.
Great layout. Friendly staff. Good value. Hate how slow the greens were. Normally way better condition. And also not a fan of playing off Matts not grass on a couple holes.
Great course
The course is amazing, set in pine trees on a mountain side with many elevation changes. It’s extremely challenging if you’re not accurate but you don’t have to hit it long to enjoy. The conditions were decent but there were a few tee boxes that had mats to hit off. Some of the tee boxes are not flat and you might have the ball slightly above or below your feet. It did just rain the couple days before so the range was closed because the balls will plug. We played on a Monday afternoon and it was amazing since we felt like we were the only ones on the course.
Back Again
I live in Southern California. About every other year, I travel to the Reno/Lake Tahoe area for a golf getaway. I always play Apple Mountain along the way. For me, this course offers more bang for the buck than any course I've played. The course is always in great shape, the weather is usually good and the staff and golfers I've met have been more than friendly. There are lots of changes in elevation requiring a variety of shots, the rough is indeed rough and the greens are somewhat challenging. If you struggle playing this course, you can at least enjoy the scenery.
18th hole needs work
The large upslope below the 18th green should be mown to a playable length. The area is not a hazard but it plays like one with assorted weeds on a severe slope. Give us a chance to hit a shot from that surface. Thanks!
13 holes, 4 hours
Beautiful day on the course. Fairways in great shape. Tee boxes need some attention. Greens a little patchy is some areas, which is common for this course coming out of winter. Made putts roll a little inconsistently, both speed and line. Pace of play was a deal breaker though. 13 holes in 4 hours is painfully slow, no course marshal in sight. Left after the 13th hole. Expect a better pace of play on a Friday afternoon. Recommend the course overall, during the week from June to September is ideal.
