About

Length 6308 yards
Slope 141
Rating 70.2

Nestled in the rolling hills of Gold Country, Apple Mountain Resort has a dramatic landscape that provides plenty of elevation changes, making it a nearly impossible course to walk. Some of the drops from tee to green are unbelievable, offering unrivaled views of the surrounding mountains. Nearly every hole enjoys a stunning backdrop. The incredibly diverse terrain makes the golf course a challenge regardless of whether you are a novice or a pro. Golfers will have to contend with mature trees, water hazards, and numerous strategically placed bunkers in addition to the uneven lies and blind shots that are a result of the undulating landscape. Apple Mountain Resort's golf course is especially nice to play in the summer since its location enjoys a temperature that is at least a few degrees cooler than the Sacramento Valley.

Very cool mountain course

This is a difficult, narrow course with spectacular views, elevation drops, and towering pines in the Sierra's. It could use some tlc, greens are slow and bumpy, but for the value and views it is a very nice day of golf. Slow play the day we played( 5 hours). If you spray the ball, bring plenty!! Senior rate on Tuesday was $37, cart included. Pay attention to the tip sheet they give you, and read putts from both sides and play more break than you think is needed.

Scenic and Tough

This course is a challenge. And don't even think about walking it. Best suited for mountain goats. Each tee opens a new postcard - beautiful scenery. I highly recommend Apple Mountain. If you are not experienced with a low handicap, bring extra balls.

Now my favorite Mountain Course

Staff was very friendly. The course was very well marked so you were able to navigate from tee to tee with ease. Greens and fairways were in excellent condition. My wife told me to be sure I mention the extremely clean and modern restroom on the course. My wife and I had a wonderful day. Hats off to the staff and greens keepers.

Amazing mountain course with spectacular layout.

Friendly staff got us out early. Some challenging holes require course strategy and less than driver for good ball placement. What a great view on every hole.

A walk in the woods

This is a great course to play to improve your accuracy. It is challenging and fun to play. The greens are in good shape except they need to be softer . I hit many high shots close to the flag that would not hold the greens. I also wish they had a GPS system. Overall I would recommend this course to my friends.

Fabulous course

This is a wonderful course with a challenging lay out that includes several drop T shots and well laid out dog-legs. The course has a great atmosphere. The manicured yet natural mountain terrain and landscapes are great. It was a welcome escape from the heat in Cameron park. Amazing what a 20 min ride makes for the summer heat. The staff is very good and extremely helpful. The rates are very reasonable, especially for a twilight round, which starts at about 3:30, which IMHO, makes it a viable option for 18 holes under good light. The course is heavily wooded and well shaded. Carts all top flight Yamaha electrics and they are maintained well. In the 3 years I have been playing, and playing many CA courses, this is my favorite course overall. It requires a player to pay attention or it can be a real ball eater. The course is however not so difficult or demanding that it is a frustrating experience for a newer golfer. I rate Apple Mountain highly.

Scenic Views at Apple Mountain Golf Resort

This is a challenging course with beautiful surroundings. The course is well maintained throughout the entire year, as I have had the opportunity to play various times during the year. The staff is always friendly and helpful. This is a course you can really feel like you have gotten away from the day-to-day grind. I encourage anyone who enjoys a challenge, loves nature, and likes a scenic forest type setting. If you're lucky, you may even see a deer or two.

Poor Man's Coyote Moon

I read Jim's review right before posting this and can agree with a lot of things he says, but all those things he wants comes with a price.

For $24 on Golf Now.com, I can't expect perfect conditions and a beverage cart girl. It's clear the course runs on a tight budget. The fairways are rock hard because they probably haven't been airified and top-dressed with sand twice a year like they should be if money was no object.

That being said, the layout is fun, beautiful and challenging for people who spray their tee shots. Apple Mountain is in a gorgeous setting, but lower your expectations because it was $25 not $125 that Coyote Moon would charge.

Disappointing

While the Pro Shop staff, starter, and marshall were very cordial and helpful; and the course is in a beautiful setting, I was disappointed with the following. 1st, even on the fairways, the dirt underneath the turf is the hard, red dirt you find in the foothills - very hard to take a divot with blade irons. 2nd, there is some sort of fungus on the greens. 3rd, there was no beverage cart. When I asked why, the response was "we're not busy enough yet." 4th, when we stopped at the turn, we were informed they don't have an alcohol license. Finally, when we got to the restaurant at about 5:00 p.m. we were told the grill was closed because there were not enough players. I will not spend the $$ to play this course again.

Tahoe style course in Sac's backyard

If you love the Tahoe golf courses but can't afford a 3-digit green fee and the two hour drive, Apple Mountain fits the bill. The course is breathtakingly beautiful. The layout is challenging, and a little tricky in spots, but not unfair at all. Get a yardage book if you haven't played here before. I used it on almost every hole. Highly, highly, highly recommended.

AERATION ALERT

At no time was aeration ever brought up. Not on the Golf Now site nor when I checked in and talked to the pro shop attendant. He told me which cart to take, which fairways not to drive on, make sure I'm 90 degrees when I do drive on fairway but not a mention of the sandy, punched greens.

They Know this changes everything. I ran into this at The Ridge last week too. Golf Now was decent and gave me a credit which I used at Apple Mtn. and then, ironically, the same thing happens. I hope I can get another credit.

Courses know they'll get reduced play in these conditions Pro shop said "Sorry, I guess I should have mentioned that.". I did get a $15 rate but it was last minute and I should not have to read their minds to know if the greens have been punched. Bad business practice.
