Apple Mountain Golf Resort
About
Nestled in the rolling hills of Gold Country, Apple Mountain Resort has a dramatic landscape that provides plenty of elevation changes, making it a nearly impossible course to walk. Some of the drops from tee to green are unbelievable, offering unrivaled views of the surrounding mountains. Nearly every hole enjoys a stunning backdrop. The incredibly diverse terrain makes the golf course a challenge regardless of whether you are a novice or a pro. Golfers will have to contend with mature trees, water hazards, and numerous strategically placed bunkers in addition to the uneven lies and blind shots that are a result of the undulating landscape. Apple Mountain Resort's golf course is especially nice to play in the summer since its location enjoys a temperature that is at least a few degrees cooler than the Sacramento Valley.

Beautiful but extremely challenging
Beautiful course. Very challenging with its many hills, slopes, trees and environmental areas. Bring lots of balls to play this one.
Poor Man's Coyote Moon
I read Jim's review right before posting this and can agree with a lot of things he says, but all those things he wants comes with a price.
For $24 on Golf Now.com, I can't expect perfect conditions and a beverage cart girl. It's clear the course runs on a tight budget. The fairways are rock hard because they probably haven't been airified and top-dressed with sand twice a year like they should be if money was no object.
That being said, the layout is fun, beautiful and challenging for people who spray their tee shots. Apple Mountain is in a gorgeous setting, but lower your expectations because it was $25 not $125 that Coyote Moon would charge.
Thank you for the 4 Stars and for coming out and playing. We are always running great deals and you can find out about them through our Facebook page or by signing up for our emails! We hope to see you back at Apple Mountain!
Disappointing
While the Pro Shop staff, starter, and marshall were very cordial and helpful; and the course is in a beautiful setting, I was disappointed with the following. 1st, even on the fairways, the dirt underneath the turf is the hard, red dirt you find in the foothills - very hard to take a divot with blade irons. 2nd, there is some sort of fungus on the greens. 3rd, there was no beverage cart. When I asked why, the response was "we're not busy enough yet." 4th, when we stopped at the turn, we were informed they don't have an alcohol license. Finally, when we got to the restaurant at about 5:00 p.m. we were told the grill was closed because there were not enough players. I will not spend the $$ to play this course again.
We apologize for your experience while golfing with us. We want to ensure that everyone has a good time while playing at Apple Mountain. We hope you will come back and see us soon.
Tahoe style course in Sac's backyard
If you love the Tahoe golf courses but can't afford a 3-digit green fee and the two hour drive, Apple Mountain fits the bill. The course is breathtakingly beautiful. The layout is challenging, and a little tricky in spots, but not unfair at all. Get a yardage book if you haven't played here before. I used it on almost every hole. Highly, highly, highly recommended.
Thank you so much for the wonderful review on Apple Mountain! The course can be a little tricky at times but you really can't beat that beautiful view! We hope you will come back out soon and play Apple Mountain again!
AERATION ALERT
At no time was aeration ever brought up. Not on the Golf Now site nor when I checked in and talked to the pro shop attendant. He told me which cart to take, which fairways not to drive on, make sure I'm 90 degrees when I do drive on fairway but not a mention of the sandy, punched greens.
They Know this changes everything. I ran into this at The Ridge last week too. Golf Now was decent and gave me a credit which I used at Apple Mtn. and then, ironically, the same thing happens. I hope I can get another credit.
Courses know they'll get reduced play in these conditions Pro shop said "Sorry, I guess I should have mentioned that.". I did get a $15 rate but it was last minute and I should not have to read their minds to know if the greens have been punched. Bad business practice.
slow day
Played apple mountain yesterday 2/15. Beautiful day. Employees were incredibly kind as well as the marshal. We unfortunately were stuck behind one slow group that we ended up going around on number 12 without playing 11. It was three hours to play 10 holes, however once we passed the group (which we were told not to pass, just stay on them on the front 9) we played 12-18 in an hour and 15 min. course is a little rough with patches of bare red dirt and the greens are a little bumpy. overall i'd rate the course a 7/10 and the crew 9/10 ( starter was a little grumpy) marshal did give us a $10 discount for our next round for the slow play
Beautiful Sunny Day in February
Middle of winter and the temp was 75. Nice course to play, challenging, but plenty of opportunities to make a good shot and have that moment!
Cart path only, some areas of the course were muddy due to the recent rains. Overall very good condition given it's location in the mountains.
Very friendly staff, equipment was all in great condition and food at the turn was delicious.
First time at Apple Hill
I needed a golf outing away from the snow in the Reno area, and Apple Hill is a short(90 mile) drive. Went out as a single and joined up with some locals who were great guys to play with. Thank goodness they knew where to place your tee shots as this course has some blind holes wherein if you do not know the course you can add a lot of strokes to your game, stroke and distance for lost balls. This course has a lot of elevation changes so you had better know your club distances and be able to strike uphill and downhill lies. A challenging but beautiful course.
Mountain course offers challenge
As a novice golfer, I probably shouldn't have chosen this course. That being said it offers a decent amount of challenge as what I would assume is a true mountain course. Look to use mountain sides to your advantage to gain a favorable approach. I would love to return to the course after more experience.
Awesome Course
Played here a few times and love it!! The course is absolutely beautiful. Every hole is unique and fun to play. Can't wait to play here again.
Thank you so much for the great review! We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your time at Apple Mountain! We look forward to seeing you again! Make sure to Like us on Facebook to find out about special deals at the course!
Apple mountain
Apple mountain is a very fun and challenging course! If you're use to playing on flat open courses this will be a whole new experience. Huge elevation changes, slanted fairways, and of course the beautiful mountain surroundings. This is a very fun course, I highly recommend giving it a shot! The single and only downside is its beer and whine only, if you're looking for a cocktail after the 18th bring your own.
Haley,
Thank you so much for the great 5 star review. We are happy to hear that you enjoy playing at Apple Mountain! We hope you will come back soon to see us!
Snow on the fringe
Good pace of play, great conditions on the course with recent rain. Lush greens and fairways. Lot of terrain relief makes for challenging but rewarding shots.
Thank you so much for taking time to write this wonderful review! We are glad to hear you enjoyed your time at Apple Mountain! We hope you will come back soon and play another round with us!
Too Slow
I have played this course about a half a dozen times. This course seems to attract either beginning golfers or people from out of town who have never been there before. Therefore, My average around has been 5+ hours. The marshals a very understanding but there's not much they can do about it. As a single, I requested to go out first thing in the morning in order to Get ahead of said groups, but the starter would not allow anyone to go out before first scheduled time (even though the sun had been up for at least one half hour).
That being said, I don't think I can recommend Apple Mountain unless a player is willing to spend an entire day on the course.
We apologize you were displeased with the pace of play during your round. If there is anything we can do please let us know. We want your time spent here to be worth your time!
Apple Mountains

Slooooow Play
First, the good news. The staff at Apple Mountain golf course are absolutely fabulous. Also, the course is in pretty great condition considering we are in.
Now for the bad news. Unless you have 5+ hours to burn, this course is not a good choice. This iseems to be no fault of the staff. I have played this course a half dozen times now and every time has been with either a beginner golfer or someone who does not play golf but wanted to Experience Apple mountains scenery. This Is what leads to 5 to 6 hour rounds.
My only complaint is that they will not let anyone go off before 8 o'clock. As a single, if they would let me go out before that time, I could be done in 3+ hours and have a great time.
It is for that reason, and that reason only, that I would not recommend this course.
Absolutely Stunning!
Better than anything I have played. Recommend it to anyone. Absolutely must ride, walking would be a great challenge. Views are breathtaking.
Gary,
Thank you for taking time to leave such a great review! We are very happy to hear that you would recommend our course, and are especially happy to know that you enjoyed your time at Apple Mountain! Please come see us again soon!
Foothills Golf at its Finest
First let me say I love this course! I do not play it as much as I would like based on distance from my home. That being said, I was lucky enough to be able to sneak up and play 9-holes and it was fantastic.
The course was in excellent shape, pre-Fall mode so the greens had pine needles to deal with; but overall played fantastic.
Erik,
We are glad you were able to sneak away to play a quick 9 holes! Glad you made it out and enjoyed playing! We hope you will be able to get back out to Apple Mountain soon!
Beautiful day at a beautiful course
I'm visiting from out of town and I am glad I decided to play this course. It is scenic and challenging. You do not have to be long to place this course. It was a perfect day weather wise which just added to the beauty of course. The only downer, was we caught up to a foursome on the back nine which was extremely slow and did not seem to mind holding us up. We could have been finished an hour earlier if this group was not so rude. Other than that, it was awesome!
First off I want to apologize for the slow play on the back 9! We always want to ensure that each golfer has an enjoyable time when playing at Apple Mountain!
Hopefully next time you are in the area you will come out at see us!
Well worth the drive
I had been wanting to play this course for a while after hearing great things about it from my golfing friends. When I saw the offer on Golfnow for 18 holes plus a cart for $18 I couldn't say no! I live in Sacramento and we have great courses but most are pretty flat. Apple Mountain is anything but flat, so it was certainly a challenge for me! Really interesting layout, and it seemed like I never had a shot that didn't include elevation change.
Great fun and highly recommended!
We are so happy that you drove from Sacramento to come play at Apple Mountain! We hope you will come out and play again soon! Check out our Facebook page for special deals as well!
Golfing Heaven Awaits at Apple Mountain
This is a unique golfing experience. You are playing amongst the pines with no surrounding homes to distract you. Keep the ball in play on this scenic course & you will be rewarded. Fairways are wide enough to allow for the average golfer to stay in play. Only 5900 yards from the blues. You will enjoy this serenity. One caution - do not attempt to walk this course unless you are part billy goat!
Thank you for the great review! We love being at the top of the mountain with no distractions! We're glad to here you enjoyed the course. Please come out and see us again soon!
The views at the course are quite something. Bringing lots of balls is definitely a great tip for those that have not played with us before. We hope to see you back soon!
