Prairie Landing
About
Prairie Landing Golf Club has received acclaim ever since first opening in 1995, including a four-and-a-half-star rating from Golf Digest. This West Chicago course will make you feel as though you've been transported to a seaside links course in Ireland. The prairie-style layout closely follows the tradition of classic links golf courses. Robert Trent Jones II designed the course, fully utilizing the rolling terrain. He incorporated large, undulating greens and rolling bent grass fairways. Vast swaths of native grasses stretch along the fairways and strategically placed bunkers frame the greens. There is also contoured mounding to contend with. The golf course finishes with a memorable par 5 that features fairway bunkers on the left followed by a carry over a lake to a well protected, high bowled green. Prairie Landing also boasts a practice facility that includes a driving range with target greens, four practice holes, and a nine-hole chipping and short-game area.

Great course, but poor management.
Booked a tee-time for single, and arrived half hour early. There was no one at the tee-box, but starter refused to let me go and had me wait, till there were 2 four-somes ahead of me. Made me pair up with another 2-some behind the 2 four-somes. I left without playing cause there was no way I would have finished 18.
Great course, but
I love the course. Challenging for a novice. I wish the golf carts could get a little closer to the greens.
Great layout - awful pace of play
PL is a great course to play.
The back nine took 2:35 to play with no rangers in sight to maybe help speed things along.
Great deal at less than $30
but extreme windy and punched greens made it difficult
sod
They are doing a lot of work on the course to get it ready for summer. They are laying a lot of sod on several holes and the practice tee. However, I still was able to enjoy a great round and play well. Also, I was able to use their free practice holes to warm up and played a few extra holes after the round, just for fun. Great course to play when you get the chance.
No Ready For Prime Time
Disappointing. Course was in the worst condition I have ever seen. I have played this course several times over the years. Always excellent until now. Greens aerated ... not yet dressed, so they were almost unplayable. Bunkers under construction. The ones that were 'there' were in terrible condition. Not worth the money at any price. It seems like it will be months before this course is back in decent shape. Discouraging that such a formerly pristine course has deteriorated to this point.
First day of season
For being the first day of the year the course was in great shape. Luckily I did not find any bunkers but looking at them around the green they seemed to be in Excellent condition.
The greens on the other hand still have the holes from aeration. I would say they were soft. With the greens id say they rolled half true. Give it a couple weeks and the holes from aeration should be gone and the grass will get green and be growing.
I think they need to sod a few spots on the course but once thats done, i believe they are done with the renovation. All the holes are back to normal as well(if you played last year towards the end of the year course was being worked on and the Normal 18 was different). Plus the 2 practice holes. Just gotta say I love this course but I wish it was more affordable. Hope this helps. Thanks for reading.
Perfect course conditions in Late October?
Wow! I've been playing this course for years and it gets better each time.
The course is currently undergoing a huge renovation, so some of the holes are under construction. With all of the changes underway, I have no idea how they've been able get the course in the best condition I've ever played it.
And after seeing the improvements they're making, I'm jacked to play it next season.
Pace of play here can be an issue at times (as with all courses), but for the most part, the players and members at this course know how to get around quickly.
Finally, and this is something I don't usually evaluate unless negative; the staff is unbelievably friendly. And I don't mean, kiss your butt over the top fake politeness. They're just really nice people.
Expected better
The course overall was in great condition. tee boxes were almost unused, greens were great, fairways were beautiful.
The cart paths on the other hand had me really annoyed. they were terrible. I also didnt like how fast the carts were going. it was painfully slow. Maybe because of the condition of the cart paths?
When i played 2 holes were closed. 6 and 14. they made up for it playing 2 of the practice holes which are just as nice as any of the other holes on the course.
great choice
Great layout in good shape, premier links course. Can be windy but helps to challenge the players. Higher handicaps should choose forward tees.
Has potential to be very good!
Very noisy surroundings. Metra trains and Dupage Airport.
The club should consider a second cut off the fairways. Rough was to high making it unfair play.
The on going improvements being made should beneficial..
Favorite Chicago Course
Really enjoyed this course. Conditions were excellent for an Octoboer weekend; Saturday afternoon, sunny, light breeze, no crowd. Challenging course that punishes you if you don't stay on the fairways. The greens played much faster than expected for this late in the season. Overall; great course, great time, well worth the cost.
Beautiful and Challenging
The course was in great shape. Fairways, tee's and greens were immaculate. However, they are renovating two holes and have woven 2 holes typically used for practice into the course for a full 18 holes. The driving range is being renovated and was not useable. There is some bunker repair work going on, but that did not impact play.
It is a difficult course with favorable weather. However it was an extremely windy day which increased the challenge significantly. Also their normally fast greens were well beyond normal. I also found very few flat lies.
If you are looking for a challenging course with great conditions, Prairie Landing is all that you can ask for. I have played this course about 20 times over the years and always enjoy the test.
part links, part parkland
great layout with chalenging holes that make you think about ball placement and best approach to the green. A couple holes under construction but they have 2 extra holes so not to worry
bad shape
Course is in saddest shape of its life...hoping they can turn it around b4 Airport shuts it down. 5.25 hr round Friday afternoon, ..pro says "that's the norm"
downhill lie
The course was said to be one of the best courses in the area. Every fairway was wet with casual water, when it hadn't rained in over a week. Re sodding around greens was poorly done. Worst of all, there were no effective rangers policing the course. They let 2 groups in front of us on #10 causing a huge delay and 6 hour round. Who wants that? There are too many other good courses with better pricing to put up with that nonsense.
Renovations
So, it was a tad chilly when we teed off this morning. I was a little disappointed that Holes 3 and 4 were undergoing upgrades as the Par 5 4th is one of my favs. Nevertheless with Holes 19 and 20 subbing for these 2, no complaints. Staff today was great, greeted and told about the renovations when I asked. Great views esp with the planes landing, one unfortunate hole where a plane literally took off on my back swing. Other than that, love this course and will be back whenever I can find a deal and the right players to play with.
Not Baaaaaaad
If I had to say anything about this course.... I'd say not baaaaaaaad!
Cattle Drive
Played here before and loved it. This time I came as a single. After I got situated in my cart a ranger came hurriedly to me and told me to 'get out of the cart". He told me to get into his cart and that he would drive me over to the tenth tee where I was to get into someone else's cart. He ask that I hold onto my bag rather than secure it. I lost a half dozen New balls because I didn't have my bag secured. When we got to the tee the 3some had already teed off and were on their 2nd shots. After I teed off the ranger said that another ranger would pick me up and bring me up to catch up with them. I WAS NOT LATE FOR THIS TEE TIME! I was hurried and treated like a piece of meat. Later told that it was my fault for the lose of the balls.

Played here several years ago. Has reputation as tough due to its very thick rough, if you go in its a lost ball. I shoot mid-90's but was able to avoid the rough, because the fairways are wide enough-the course is not unfair or unfun.
Well maintained, the staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful to a single paying $30 all alone. I would be happy to play again at these rates.
