Great Value and Some Tricky Holes
Front 9 has some narrow tree lined fairways, Greens are very subtle so sometimes hard to see if breaks is right or left. Played Thursday 7:30AM and finished by 10:10AM. I hit 2 balls on most of holes. Fairways in pretty good shape. Trees leaves are make it hard to find your ball when outside of the fairway.
Good
Had fun. Hit some dirt in the fairway. Greens have seen better days. Some very fun holes tho
Nice Course
Really nice staff! Course was in pretty good shape, some greens looked a little worn. Most sand traps were hard dirt and needed real sand. It would help if they worked the dirt in the traps so you weren't hitting off of dead pans.
San Luis Re Downs
Great challenging course with lots of trees. A great course to spend a portion of your day on.
Old Reliable
San Louis Rey Downs GC is one of those old, comfortable courses you love to play every now and then. Some tight fairways, some open fairways. Lots of trees. Generous tee boxes - especially for women (and my wife loved that). Greens are in good shape and putt true. I've played it many times over the past 25 years, and still like it. I hope it survives the present situation and is around for years to come. San Diego North County needs affordable golf courses.
Great afternoon value! Wind is always a factor.
Teed off at 2:30 on a Friday and while it was pretty open, I guess a late rush caused it to slow down a bit. Course is in good shape and I lost a ball on the second shot on 9 (again!). Beneficial if you have both a fade and a draw in your arsenal...if not, less than driver and straight is your best option!
Classic Old Course
Great old style tree lined course.. Excellent value. San Diego North horse community...
.. Closure likely in the intermediate future.
so enjoy it while it is available.. Breezy conditions are typical in the afternoon..
San Luis Rey Downs
The course is in okay condition, fairways need some work and the greens appeared to have been punched and had not fully recovered in some areas yet but not bad overall. Tight is a real understatement here trees come into play on every hole for the most part. Could be really nice with some updating, and tree trimming would be a plus. They call it a resort course but that is a stretch to say the least but well worth the money I paid to play it which was pretty low. Only real issue for me was allowing groups of five's to play. I was behind one of them and it played pretty slow as a result.
No clubhouse/restaurant anymore
The course has always been challenging, but fun. After a round, my friends and I always looked forward to heading to the restaurant, having a meal and few drinks, and watching golfers tee off on 10. With the restaurant now closed, we will probably play at SLRD sparingly, maybe once or twice a year.
Close to perfect
Only complaint was 5+ hour round. Group in front were beginners and did not know etiquette of allowing groups to play thru. No Marshall on course which is understandable in these economic times. Staff was amazing. Friendly and efficient. Will play again for sure.
aerification not clear
Fix the aeration icon. Greens were not 90% healed. Course was dry and needs water.
Be aware...
For me this round was a long drive, this fact made the unadvertised recently aerated greens especially frustrating. The staff was great, the course design was fun, challenging and interesting but the condition of the course was undesirable. On top of the aerated greens the course was very dry, grass was in poor shape and fairways and rough plagued with dirt instead of grass, and the tee-boxes were despicable. Very poorly maintained. I would recommend you stay away at least long enough for the greens to repair, perhaps just stay away.
great layout poor conditions
the course had many features that were challenging but unfortunately the conditioned made it not so fun to play.the greens were just plug so not sure how the greens are normally. If it was in better condition it would be a very fun golf course
Nice course but wish they would have advised of recent aeration
This is a very good layout with challenges off the tee and into greens. Usually this course is known for very good fast greens but this time I played a week after aeration. The course website as well as Golfnow gave no notice of this . The fairways are patchy in many areas. The weather was great and the pace of play was great. Had the greens been their normal self I would have given a higher rating
Up for a Challenge?
Very well maintained course! It offers challenges to even the more skilled players. Water and sand traps with many elevation changes! Staff was very upbeat and friendly!
San Luis Rey Downs
Older course , with quick greens. And challenging shot making opportunities Fairways are slow, but the scenery makes up for it. Would play it again.
overall the course wass good
Fairways could use some work, but greens were in good shape. Enjoyed the round so no complaints. Lady at check in was very helpful and very nice. Sorry I didn't get her name. Staff is excellent.
Fun course at a great price
Had a great time playing this course and for the money you can't beat it.
A local park with putting greens.
Other player's reviews fooled me by a lot.
I guess people like this course because of the low green fee.
Great course
Good fun course. Challenging if you don't hit on fairway you will end up behind trees
