Sweetwater Golf & Country Club

About
Sweetwater Country Club is situated amid the beauty of the Wekiva State Park. Sweetwater is one of Orlando's premier golf courses, boasting a challenging championship layout with some of the area's best greens. The classic links layout brings a taste of Scottish golf to central Florida. Mature oaks shade the golf course, lining the fairways and framing the greens. The 6,771-yard layout offers a good amount of length but it's definitely not a grip-it-and-rip-it course thanks to tight fairways that require accurate shot placement. The course is home to one of the longest par 5s in the Southeast, a challenging 625-yard hole that is aptly named the "Loch Ness Monster." The heavily tree-lined hole double doglegs around a large lake. There are some challenging holes but Sweetwater Country Club isn't overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Course gets better after the first few holes
Windy day due to hurricane passing offshore & the first few holes the greens were very patchy. Good news was that after the first few holes the greens improved greatly, particularly on the back nine. It's an interesting layout with a couple of challenging holes due to elevvation changes. Staff were friendly & pace of play was excellent - got the round in under 3 hours.
Nice touch was the rake with each cart which saved you having to find a rake if you happen to go into the bunker. The rake also double up as a handy ball retriever if you find any water & don't want to get too close to the edge!
Remember - the greens improve greatly after the first few holes & you'll enjoy the back nine.
Good tract
Course is in good shape. Fairways were surprisingly good. Greens were fast but fair. Would like to see cart paths marked better.
Sweet water
Course is being worked on under new management. You can see the improvements and the vision the new owner ship has. A great lay out.
Staff were extra courteous. A lovely clubhouse. We had a few cold ones after the round and a freshly made pizza cooked by jersey Joe himself. I definitely recommend playing the course and enjoy the friendly atmosphere in the clubhouse.
Good enough
Played the front 9 in 1hr 15 minutes. Fairways are decent, greens roll, but had some bare spots. Typical public course . The front nine was a little confusing. They are changing the layout. Wide open fairways, but lined with trees. Shorter course. Good enough for the money
Great round ended early by rain
The greens were surprisingly good, and I started the round with 2 birdies. I had to drive out to the 3rd hole to begin, because their was a 7-some on the first green.
Thunderstorms were unfortunately moving in, so I had to end what was a great round (1 under after 14 holes) early.
Sweetwater 5/3/25
Course is dry buts runs fast greens are fine and fringe is growing.
Staff is amazing
Every time I go to sweet water I leave with a smile on my face, the club house manager is goated and everyone else is very friendly. I got a smorgasbord of pizza which was delicious and was prepared quickly, the course itself is great and the price is just right. 10/10
Sweetwater golf and country club
The staff and the country club is very nice with good food. The corse was in below average condition, the layout was awful and there’s no driving range or practice greens. We had a maintenance worker on almost every hole with us and several times in the range of the shot so that was very uncomfortable. Overall I will most likely never go back or recommend anyone to.
Sweetwater April 25
My nephew and I played Sweetwater Sat. 4/19 starting mid-morning, we finished at 2:00, so a solid 4hour round. Like a lot of local courses, the dry winter beat up the fairways. Still very playable, but not Sweetwater at its best. We both enjoyed the smooth, and fast rolling greens. What the fairways lacked, the greens made up for. The staff was great. All were very personable and welcoming. All and all, a good day
Coming along Great
Greens were fantastic and in great shape. Fairways have improved a ton albeit with little more work needed and they are doing it. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. A driving range would be great and a more stocked pro shop but great value and course is coming along great. Keep it up, we’ll be back.
Worst course in years
Only positive thing about this course is the clubhouse after the round for cold beer and pizza.
Just Retire It!
I’ve played this course in the past before they started all the renovations and condo building and it used to be a fun track. This course is totally screwed up now. The layout on the front nine makes absolutely NO SENSE. They rearranged the front nine to make room for condos but it’s a golfing nightmare. Worst layout in all of Orlando! The back nine has what I would call a normal layout. Overall the course is in bad condition. The greens were BAKED and hard as concrete. Good luck getting your ball to bite. Looks like they’re trying to save on their water bill. The fairways were super thin…it’s obvious they didn’t over-seed. And the tee boxes were basically ignored. When it comes to a par 3 you’d at least want THOSE tee boxes to be decent, but that wasn’t the case. They’ve practically destroyed a fun course to make room for more houses and condos. At least the staff was super friendly…that was the only positive. Oh and I arrived looking to purchase golf balls in the pro shop for my round and they didn’t have any for sale (not even used ones). The pro shop was completely empty except for drinks. I’ve never seen a pro shop (at least that’s what they call it) that doesn’t have golf balls for sale. I have officially taken this course out of my rotation and won’t be back.
