Sweetwater Golf & Country Club

Played here as a group of 4 friends who play in Orlando on vacation every year. Our first visit to Sweetwater for two of us and we found it “quaint !”

Difficult to access the entrance through a housing estate but when we arrived the cart boy was really friendly and very helpful. Pro Shop staff friendly and helpful, but bar not open till late morning, so no coffee available for us on arrival. Carts are a throwback to another era (diesel), but they worked with a bit of a smell 😂. First two tees run parallel to each other, but hey it works.

The course is not overly long or complicated with no real hidden surprises (carts have no tech or ice coolers). Greens were okay, but slow. We booked on GolfNow and found the fee very good value for money. Ended up rushing to beat the thunderstorm (we lost), so didn’t get to try the bar.

I never do reviews, but I felt this place deserves far better. I loved the course, the condition and the layout. I especially loved all the shady oaks. The staff was great, but it wouldn't matter. The grass was green and we'll mowed and that's all I'm interested in. I don't even care about pace of play, although it was excellent. To all you golfers writing bad reviews for stupid stuff, nobody cares if you ran out of TP in the bathroom. On second thought, stay home, I'll be booking this one again!!!! Jim

The layout of the first two holes and their condition was very bad. Subsequently, some of the greens were in pretty good shape. The fairways were also a mixed bag. The clubhouse has black mildew on the side facing the entrance and on the doors. This makes a very bad “first impression.“ there is a dead tree on the left on hole number 10 that has been there for months and months. I was a member at Sweetwater 25 years ago. I can’t believe what’s happened to it over the time.

Unplayable greens, hasn’t been mowed in weeks, pace of play is atrocious. Literally play any other course in the area and save your money

Excellent golf course to play in the central Florida area. Ensure you receive a gate code to enter the community gate area. For our group the weather was a factor due to previous rain, making the greens a tap slower. Hole 1 was a short par 4 with hole 2 side by side kind of weird but after that, the laid out of the course was surprisingly pleasant. The fairways were good with some dry rough and high grass on the edges meaning hit them in the fairways. Most of the par 5 were very long so check distance if you need to adjust your tee box. The course design is very challenging with slope, hills, blinds spots and your regular water hazards. For the price it’s worth the trip. The restaurant meals are outstanding, congratulations to their chef.

The staff are truly amazing and it’s so unfair that they work at a course that just doesn’t care about this place. The location was annoying to find, the carts were holding on by a thread. I think I could have outwalked the carts pace. The greens rolled slower than the fairways of most other courses, the fairways were longer than most first cuts and god forbid your golf ball rolls 3 yards off the fairway because it’s a lost golf ball. The pace of play was atrocious. It took almost 3 hours to finish 10 holes before packing up for the day. I get the price is low, but there’s so many other courses in the area in the same if not lower price range with course conditions that aren’t just playable, but so much better than this course that they couldn’t pay me to play here ever again. First time experience ruined and felt a civil duty to warn other golfers of the worst experience of golf in central Florida.

This was my first experience with this course. It is not super long, but the trees and rough force you to golf your ball. I enjoyed my round and just beat the afternoon showers.

Course is looking better every day! Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in very good shape. Few weeds in the sand traps. Pace of play was very good and staff was friendly. Ate at the clubhouse after our round, food was excellent!. Will be back to play and eat again! Keep up the great work!

We have a blast every time we play here. We are local and enjoy the hospitality of the staff. Greens are awesome and well kept, need some work on the sand bunkers. Overall a fun place to play and enjoyable due to the staff!

I had high expectations of playing Sweetwater based on word of mouth in the Orlando golf community. Unfortunately, the reality fell far short of my expectations.

There were two primary reasons for my disappointment. First was the overall condition of the course. Second, was the course design.

As many people have mentioned the rough on the course is out of control. If you step one foot off of the fairway you are in high grass. Not only does this make finding your ball difficult (and slows the pace of play down dramatically) but I almost hurt my wrist on several swings.

The second issue is with the design of the course. On several par 5's they have trees that have not been trimmed in decades. You may be 250 - 300 yards out after your drive and have to shoot through a very narrow gap between mature trees that have almost completely covered the fairways. These trees are too high to go over and prevent a reasonable shot. Other holes aim you towards houses instead of fairways and greens.

The staff here are very nice. It is a shame that the owners have not invested in a great golf experience.

Played Sunday. Very slow round due to the amount of time spent looking for balls just off the fairway in the FOOT tall rough.

Broken equipment? ICE get your staff? Seriously should contract out to a company like Down to Earth.
