For golf in February you can't really fault the course.
Mats
I got a text the night before staiting that mats were to be used or drop on side. Most of the tee off were on mats I think this should be stated before bookings.
Great for winter
Course was in good condition considering the time of year. Playing off mats was different. Greens were sandy but playable and only 1 temp green. Enjoyable round and managed a hole in one on 13th.
Poor
All tee shots were off mats and a small piece of Astro type turf had to be carried around for use on fairway shots. The greens were extremely heavily sanded with little or no chance of getting the pace or line. The bunkers looked as though they hadn’t been raked or tended in any way for several days if not weeks with clear signs of where heavy rain had literally washed the sand away leaving a bed of stones visible.Booked this as a hot deal through Golf Now and even at £17.99 very poor value and not wort the drive there.
Carnalea review
It’s just the wrong time of year for this course too soft underfoot and it doesn’t say that you have to play of matts if it did we wouldn’t have went because we really liked the course when we played it in the summer
Picturesque
First nine holes border Belfast Lough with marvelous views. Back nine has interesting layout. The ground was wet in places but that was no wonder after the amount of rain that had fallen during the previous week . The greens were a bit hairy and.slow. but you could see the great conditioning coming through. The staff and members were friendly and welcoming .All in all, we had a very pleasant time and we will definitely be back.
Carnalea
Friendly staff and locals. People quick to get out of way when a smaller group behind. I’ll be back again. Lovely course.
Very good course
The only bad thing i would about the course is the directions to next tee box. Afew times we got lose. But overall a very good and hard course.
Really enjoyable round of golf!
I brought my friend for a round on Sunday 4th September. I had 2 vouchers to use up and so glad I chose Carnalea!
I’ve played the course a few times before and it has definitely grown on me! The condition of the course was absolutely brilliant and I have to say the greens were so smooth and the best I’ve putted on for a long long time! Credit to the green keeping staff for keeping them in such great condition considering how much sunny and dry weather we’ve had.
I look forward to playing it again very soon!
Thanks
Chris
Carnalea
Well maintained course and we completed 18 holes in less than 3 hours.
Would recommend
Badly sign posted
This is a great course. However in my opinion it is badly signposted. Between a couple of different holes. We got lost trying to find a couple of tee boxes when we played as it was a guessing game to which direction we should go! A few simple next tee this way markers would be a good way to fix this issue
Great Course
Lovely course, well maintained greens lightening fast. Some beautiful views, really enjoyable.
Top Class Course.
Fantastic course overall. Pace on the greens. Fairways perfect. Bunkers tricky. Tee Boxes top notch. Can Lovely cold pint in the clubhouse after to finish a brilliant day. Highly Recommend!
Waiting and waiting and waiting
I’ve played this course a number of times over the last 4 weeks. I’m on holiday and am out mostly on my own. Today two four balls held up my round so much so I walked of after the 10th. Which I couldn’t play due to it being used by kids. The four ball in front played the 10th and I skipped on through to play through on the 11th. Was just about to tee off and the four ball that had been in front kicked off about me playing through. I had been behind them waiting and waiting from the 3rd. I always let single players play through but these guys weren’t playing the etiquette game here. This is only one of 5 or 6 incidents over the last four weeks and I will probably not play this course again this year and stick to Helen’s bay, rockmount and castlereagh hills where people let single players play through.
Interesting course by the sea
Challenging front 9. Reminiscent of a links , never on a flat lie. Back nine parkland with nice greens.
