Rating 74.0

The 7,037 yard Clyde Johnston design at Eagle Landing weaves through the Florida landscape and takes on a vintage feel as he incorporates several of the classic design holes from around the world into the par-72 layout.

"My goal, says Johnston is to intersperse classic holes such as the Redan Hole, the Eden, and the Cardinal into the routing in order to lend a sense of purity to the golf experience at Eagle Landing. Those individual designs are so technically and aesthetically complete that they can truly elevate a golfing experience."

Johnston's philosophy in designing a Club course remains the same as his other courses; begin each nine relatively easy and progressively get harder. The Eagle Landing course offers six sets of tees, from championship to youth tees, allowing the course to play as easy or as difficult as desired. Johnston's previous designs in northeast Florida include Eagle Harbor Golf Club, St. Johns Golf & Country Club, and Jacksonville Golf & Country Club.

Eagle Landing also offers a magnificent golf clubhouse with sports bar, fully-stocked pro shop, his and her locker rooms, and an elegant restaurant overlooking sparkling water and lush fairways. The staff of PGA professionals will coordinate a host of exciting tournaments and events on the course and in the clubhouse.

Eagle Landing

Course was in great shape, green were a bit fast but fair. A little steep in price compared to other Clay County courses. I would play it more if they came down in price or had deals on Golfnow. Other than that great clubhouse and course.

Poor course management.

Played at 140. They had a shotgun tourney starting at 1 for holes 1 Thru 12. Got backed up on hole 3. Watched tourney scramble 3 somes take 35-40 on 2 holes. Rangers rode by and never said a word. Saw the non tourney 4 somes x 4 backed up. Never said a word. Took 3 hours 45 minutes for us to play 12 holes. We gave up. Went to clubhouse . Expressed ourselves and they x 2 responded with a lame "sorry guys ". Slap in the face. Will never go back.

RANGERS HAVE BAD ATTITUDE

RANGERS NEED TO ATTEND CLASSES ON CUSTOMER RELATIONS. I UNDERSTAND PACE OF PLAY. RANGERS NEED TO BE A LITTLE FRIENDLIER ABOUT KEEPING PACE OF PLAY. FROM PREVIOUS REVIEWS POSTED, THIS SEEMS TO BE A ISSUE THAT EAGLE LANDING GOLF COURSE MANAGMENT NEEDS TO ADDRESS.

Eagle Landing round Sunday

The course was in excellent shape, greens rolled true, but our group doesn't know if we will ever.go back because of the way we were treated by the staff. 1) When we went to check in, we were told we weren't eligible for the breakfast/ lunch option because I booked through Golfnow, and Eagle Landing is trying to drive traffic to their website. We told them we would take our business elsewhere, and received the meal vouchers. 2) The cart guys were in the way, didn't help with the carts, and when they did decide to pay attention to us,there was way too much complaining about the heat and how hard their jobs were. 3) The players attendant was a nightmare, our tee time was 10:28, at 10:25 when we were trying to check in, (and the starter was backed up) he told us that it was almost.10:30 and we needed to hurry up. The group in front of us were walking off the green when we were getting ready to tee off and we were told to catch up. Throughout the round we were made to feel like we were holding up the entire course even though we didn't see the group behind us after the third hole. Needless to say, being rushed throughout the round for no apparent reason took a lot of fun out of the round. 4) On the 15th hole, not having seen.the beverage cart for several holes, when it came by we hollered.and waved, then watched as she drove away. Two of our group tried to follow and catch her, but to no avail. I/ we realize this may seem trivial to some, but there are too many options to play golf to have to put up with rude and inattentive behavior as.detailed above. We will give Eagle Landing another try in the future, and will hope the experience is better. On a good note, the staff in the dining room were very friendly and attentive, which was appreciated.

One of the Very Best in Jacksonville

This is without a doubt the best conditioned course I have played in Jacksonville. The Eagle Landing greens are terrific, practically perfect, and putt as smooth as the bent grass greens I played at Oak Tree CC in Edmond, Oklahoma. The fairways are immaculate and the rough area and bunkers are very consistent and well maintained. The only course that can compare, condition wise, is the TPC. I currently live in HHCC and if it wasn't such a long drive , I would join Eagle Landing.

Local course pace of play

This course used to have rangers staff friendly, courteous and possess excellent communication skills that I believed any customer based industry must have. Late morning, they started us 1 spot behind our original teetime. Group in front of us were backed up by another group on the 2nd hole. So there were 3 groups at the 2nd hole. In the 5th hole, ranger came up and tried to explained to us that we should had been on the 6th greens playing. We told the ranger that he needs to go after the 2 group ahead of us and have them speed up, which we didn't have problem with. Our group was pacing the group ahead of us. On the 7th hole, he tried again to remind us what time & where our group should be. Again, we told him we can't be there if we were only following & keeping pace with the 2 group ahead of us. This ranger didn't have the communication skills & he should be monitoring or on top of the 2 group ahead of us until that group are in the correct time or pace of play. Instead, he wasted time telling and showing his timetable to the wrong group. We all paid to enjoy the round and have fun among our foursomes. It is not we are outdoor taking our times. The ranger on this course ruined it. Sitting at the clubhouse for a drinks, we heard same unnecessary distractions & wrong ways of enforcing course pace of play rules on the wrong group or players. I get it, its business and tons of players like to get the round completed in a reasonable time, like 4 or 4 1/4 hour. But, they need to know how and when to enforce any rules and ensure have the right staff (ranger) too. I suggest that the ranger should be with the group causing the backed until they are within the time and position based on their starting teetime. Stay with that group. If the course do not make any changes or stop harassing or ruining players round of constant reminders of their time. This course will be losing lots of players returning and losing profits. Ways of enforcing pace of play sucks right now and need to be changed. I don't have problem with the course itself. It's the way the course and how the pace of play being enforce by un-courteous staff.

Course in great shape

Loved the course. We were joined by a couple of staffers playing on there day off. Now I know how they got to be so good. Very impressed with the course. It was my first time playing there. Some courses I believe are harder but this one does have its own difficulties. The whole course was in great shape.

This was the first course I played on our week vacation in Jacksonville. It was a surprise to me that they weren't charging more because the greens were flawless and the grass was cut perfectly. They also give you free lunch with the round. Definitely play here. Overall great course.

Course in super shape

Eagle Landing not only has the best deal in the area, the course is in the best shape of any around and we play many of them. Fairways are lush, greens are excellent and fast!

Can't beat the staff friendliness in the pro shop, outside and in the lounge area. The golf, breakfast, lunch, 2 drinks deal is a great value and you can order off the menu!

Poor on course management.

Starter delays sending people off to fill up the foursome and the marshal is out hounding groups on pace of play.

They moved my twosome's 7:56 tee time down to the 7:32 tee time because 1/2 of the original 7:32 foursome was still eating their free breakfast. Starting on the back 9, when we got to the tee the group in front of us was no where in sight. By the 4th hole the marshal told my twosome that we had to meet certain time marks for pace of play. The twosome we were playing with were retirees that played there regularly. The marshal didn't speak to them about speeding up play. These guys would hit another shot whenever they miss hit a shot. They had to average one miss hit each on each hole. After getting two more reminders from the marshal on pace of play I told him I was doing my part. He did not say another word to me but he was present 14th and 17th tees. We finished the round by 11:45. Too many courses in the area to have to deal with such amateurish on course management.

Also booking through GolfNow you will not receive the free breakfast/lunch/two beers offer.

Unfortunately I just experienced something similar. Our 3some was combined with another single at start time. We had no problem with that, but this player was all over the course, and then the ranger proceeded to chastise us for slow play even though foursome ahead of us were in the line of play.

Excellent course but one glaring problem

Course is in pristine condition. Greens are not too difficult to read and most do not have severe breaks. Fairway placement important else you will regularly have to approach over a bunker. The only negative was how much the course officials pushed about playing time. Was playing a charity golf tournament where the focus should be on that, having a good time, and raising some money for a worthy charity. Was given a stern lecture before the start and was followed up with several course promptings. Takes a lot out of the fun of playing like that. Would hope that if a course is willing to host a charity event, and considering the cost to play it, the course would accept that reality and do more to make it enjoyable for the participants. Otherwise, just don't host it. I don't spend $100 or more to have course officials be so consumed with playing time.

Pleasantly surprised

This place is in great shape for June in Florida. Lush grass with burned up patches are germane to daily fee course this time of year, but they have kept them to a minimum. The greens rolled fast and were consistent on most holes. A few of the greens on the back suffer from grain-influenced breaks, but it's manageable. The layout is fantastic. The par 72 course plays true to rating and there are plenty of scoring opportunities, or so I'm told. The course has a balance of open and tight shots. It's challenging without being hard for the sake of being hard. Your good shots aren't punished by this course. I would play here every weekend if I could.

Only downside, it's way out in east Jesus and is about 45 minutes from anywhere inside the 295 perimeter. It's worth the drive, but go early. They send folks off on the eights. It's easy to get backed up.
