Fantastic greens
Fantastic greens. Imo find any better than Falls Village. Don’t play out of the traps and They needed a Ranger today
Not bad
Of corse everything was a little moist but not bad in general. The sand traps suck but that was expected
Good Course - Rainy Day
The course was fairly well set out and competitive enough for a weekend golfer. The day I went was fairly cold and rainy, so there was a lot of mud. The course attendant couldn’t believe we would even want to play considering the conditions. It was fairly muddy but the greens drained well.
Soggy Soggy Soggy
This is a great layout and they are skewing this place up badly. No sand in bunkers actually they are now water hazards. The entire course does not drain. We could barely walk anywhere near the green. The worst thing is I fell in mud and that has never happened before in 30 years of playing golf.
It’s probably a ton better in the summer.
Course conditions were pretty good for winter, bit wet. Didn’t really enjoy being paired up. Guys were cool enough, but I didn’t come to hang out with them.
Those Sand bunkers are the pits
I read the reviews about this course from the last year or so , about the awful sand traps, No Change. on at least the front Nine sand traps. ( grass growing, unraked, full of wet layers of leaves and a few traps had standing pools of deep dark water ( a new kind of water hazard) .
Due to a frost delay and extremely slow play where it took 2 hrs and 35 mins to play the front nine,, i left for something better to do with my time.. The staff was top notch, the greens were large & firms and were not pocketed with unfixed divots. , the layout and elevation contours would make this a very cool course to play in ideal conditions .someday. in the distance future. Play today was cart path only as there were many soft wet spots which is what you can expect in late December where it was 45 degree when I teed off. I would like to play here again in the summer, but not anytime before that.. Not really knowing much about Course Maintenance , but I would think up-keeping sand traps is by far the easiest , of the many many challenges that can hamper a golf course. All the reviews Say the Same Thing. Is anyone on the staff reading these reviews and ready to do something about the sand bunkers so we can write about something else. Just Kidding, can't always please everyone. .
Better than work
Could help overcome the muddy walkways, put done a temporary simple deck board
Four star for value
Paid a bit over $20 with discounted round from Tee Off but only $30 anyhow in the weekday afternoon (with shared cart). This course is a great layout. Tight fairways but fair. Rolling terrain. Greens are new champion Bermuda and unexpectedly awesome. Traps are unplayable. Filled with dirty water. Could lose a ball in them easily. At least put drains in your bunkers! Teeboxes as expected for public course. Nice that they overseed fairways with rye grass. Not all public or private courses do that. With new houses going in nearby hopefully will invest more and bring this track up to its potential. 4 star rating is driven great price for this tracks layout and greens. Oh and Bob the starter was awesome. Got us out within 10 minutes of our tee time despite frost delay that morning. Photo of 18th green at sunset.
Nice course
I played The Falls Village Course on 12/4 with two gentleman. We started at 1:45 and ended shortly after Sun down. Pace. Of play was ok for the front 9– but it was agonizing on the back. We wanted to finish before the light failed but we were following very closely on the heels of two other 4-somes.
The back 9 has 3 dog-leg par 4s in a row. These blind shots are challenging — and most golfers navigate them very slowly. One of the back 9 holes was over water and it played from the whites at about 160yards. Exhilarating! . I played the last hole as the light was failing . Made the green in 2 with precision shots , a wish, and a prayer. The grounds staff was very gracious and didn’t make a fuss when we arrived after dark.
I could easily play this course in about 3.5 hours if there was no waiting During winter hours - I suggest starting before 1:00 so as to catch the light.
Tough but Fair
Course is in great shape. Greens are excellent. No traps but with covid not playing traps anyway. We were a little backed up due to frost on the greens but still played in about 4 hours with a foursome and two of us were walking. I think my friends cheated but I will get them next time. Is it okay to use a tee in the fairway, lol.
Had a great time.
Great layout
The layout of this course is one of my favorites in the Raleigh-Durham area. The greens were in great shape and the fairways were good. The bunkers are not playable but that has been known for a while since management is still phasing their refurbishment of the course. Hit in the bunker, pull it out and play it as ground under repair...no biggie considering the challenging nature of the other aspects of the course.
No traps...
Greens were in great shape, pace was good, but there were no traps in play. All were filled with standing water or marked as under repair. Not sure how long this will be the case.
Also not a fan of course charging folks to use individual carts these days. My wife is a nurse, and having to share means I decide if my buddy is worth $10 or not.
