Callahan Golf Links
About
Callahan Golf Links in Waleska possesses a rich history of more than 150 years of farming and family ownership. Before being converted into a golf course, the site functioned as a farm from the Civil War until World War II. When creating the course, the natural beauty of the landscape was carefully preserved. As its name would suggest, the layout is a true links design with carefully placed pot bunkers and thick cuts of rough. Water is barely present but there are plenty of other challenges throughout that will quickly make you forget that fact. It is gentle enough for beginners but the back tees will challenge more experienced players. Golfers can also work on their short game on the chipping and putting greens or warm up on the driving range. The affordable rates make Callahan Golf Links an excellent value.

Risk-Reward Course
Greens are now holding shots. Unfortunately, golfers seem to ignore fixing ball marks, so there are some greens that are slightly bumpy, but still not bad. The layout is very challenging, as you have to weigh the risk-reward on most tee shots. An offline drive can result in a double bogey or worse, while a center-cut drive sets up a birdie opportunity. Fun course to play.
Good Value
You get more than what you pay for here. If you are expecting country club conditions for $40 then that's your problem. I played from the tips on a Friday afternoon and had a great time. Maybe a little slow but it's a fun course with a variety of shots and some decent elevation. The bunkers were in good shape but the greens were incredibly slow and had marks ALL OVER them. Come on people, it's a point of pride to repair your mark when you hit the green! "Clubhouse" was a little lacking, but I don't golf for the clubhouse. Off the beaten path for sure, but better than I expected when I pulled up. Would recommend if you just wanna play and don't need anything fancy. I'll be back for sure.
Nice course, got behind a super slow 4 some, that wouldn’t let us play thru
Coming Back soon
Great layout. Very scenic. Good condition. Very friendly staff. The only knock I had was there wasn’t a cart girl and it was hot and humid
You Can't Go Wrong At Callahan Links
I play Callahan Links about once a month for a change of pace from my home club. It's also a great place to bring visitors and beginners. The Callahans provide a great golfing experience for a very reasonable price. They've expended a good deal of money and time improving the course this season including removing trees and underbrush prompting fuller greens, tee boxes etc. Great country folks providing a great country course. Don't pass it by.
Nothing special
Sorta links style golf but not really. Instead of tree lined fairways which are abundant in GA, this course uses unmaintained shrub holes to surround the fairways. Course is in decent shape but the greens were terrible. The slowest greens I have ever played on. Pace of play was brutal today too. No cart person. No food available at the turn besides snacks. Price is fine for what it is, but not worth going out of your way.
Fun course, but I won't play it on the weekend again
The course itself was a fun course with a variety of challenges. Some fairways are a little tight, requiring a accurate drive for a decent second shot - while other fairways were wide open for the "grip it and rip it" style of driving! The fairways were in great condition, while the greens were a little bumpy. There were a lot of ball marks on the greens that had not been repaired. All in all, I enjoyed the variety of challenges the course offered and would play it again. BUT...I won't play it on a weekend again. I can't say it was overly crowded or if there was just a slow group who wouldn't let anyone through, but my playing partner and I played as a twosome and the round lasted 4 hours and 50 minutes. We waited on every shot. We could see the threesome that was in front of us waiting on every shot before they could hit, and there was a foursome in front of them. I understand (and expect) that weekend play could be a little slower with more people on the course, but a 5 hour round was excessive. Other than the pace of play, I enjoyed the round and would go back.
Got HIO in No. 8 hole
So glad got my second HIO today at Callahan No. 8 hole
Needs some improvements
Biggest drawback was not yardage markers (like painted line - blue (200 yards), white (150 yards) and red (100 yards) on pathways. It was a cart path only day and you had to walk out on the course with no club to find the markers embedded in the grass to know how far out you were. Was disappointed in how difficult it was to find yardage from green.
Great course
Great course in excellent condition. Good value for the money.
Easy drive from resort where we were staying.
Fun but Challenging
Very fun, but deceptively challenging course. Wide open layout, but do not be deceived. It's not as easy as it looks. If you cannot control your ball spin, be prepared to lose some balls. Will definitely play again.
Time to get rid of the red and black checkered in flags
Nice course. Fairways were in good condition and tee boxes looked like they were improving. Greens had just been sanded but still roll pretty good.
The pace of play was good and finished 18 in around 3 1/2 hours. Did not see a cart girl all day and there was no water coolers on the course. Some of the ball washers also need water
The main problem I have is that the pin flags are red and black checkered and you cannot determine where the paint placement is especially on an uphill second or third shot to the green. It can be very frustrating when you hit a good shot thinking the pin is in the front but it is located in the back. Time to either go back to a small indicating flag on the flag pole or go with red white and blue pin flags. If not the The course should go with information on the golf cart with the pin placement for that day.
