Callahan Golf Links
About
Callahan Golf Links in Waleska possesses a rich history of more than 150 years of farming and family ownership. Before being converted into a golf course, the site functioned as a farm from the Civil War until World War II. When creating the course, the natural beauty of the landscape was carefully preserved. As its name would suggest, the layout is a true links design with carefully placed pot bunkers and thick cuts of rough. Water is barely present but there are plenty of other challenges throughout that will quickly make you forget that fact. It is gentle enough for beginners but the back tees will challenge more experienced players. Golfers can also work on their short game on the chipping and putting greens or warm up on the driving range. The affordable rates make Callahan Golf Links an excellent value.

Terrible Pace of Play
My group paid for 18 holes and only played 9 because it took almost 4 hours to play 9 holes. At one point we saw a group of 8 golfers putting on the same green. $65.21 is too high for 18 holes at this course to begin with and is most definitely too high when you only get to play 9 due to pace of play.
Hidden Gem
This was a surprisingly beautiful and fun course to play. We chose it at random and were so impressed our whole group was discussing possible membership.
Can you say slow!
Maybe because of the rain but slow play was an understatement for today. Usually not yo bad but needed a marshall today or maybe a better starter to keep the spacing
Little slow
A little over 5 hours. Be good to have a marshal moving slow play at a faster pace.
New carts
Played here several times. The layout is fairly forgiving, and the course is pretty well maintained other than a few tee boxes. No frills so in all I consider playing here a good value.
The group in front of me was a bit slow and seemed more interested in looking for balls than playing golf.
They have new carts which stop working if you go into restricted areas. Fine, but they need to be programmed a little better. On several occasions the warning beeper came on while parked at the red tee boxes and wouldn't stop. That's a bit annoying.
Golf carts gps needs some work.
Please have someone that knows how to operate the GPS features on new carts do so. Miserable hearing/seeing the notifications and alarms when not needed.
Slow play
Course is in good shape. Fairways are greening up and greens were running fast. But it would have been a more enjoyable round of it were not for slow play. A 5 hr round, ridiculous. People, look behind you and let faster players play thru. Hopefully a Ranger will be circling the course to speed things up next time out.
What a shame.
First time playing this course and it was in the worst shape of any course I've played in 30 years. It's a shame, because it is a good layout and could be a good course. There was no grass on any of the Tee boxes and the fairways were not much better. I would not play the course again.
Course greening up
Greens were sanded last week and with this past weekends rain, greens are almost smooth and getting faster. Following a Wednesday morning mens group, pace of play was slow.
Value
I like this course primarily for its value. They just put GpS on carts, new range mats. Wish they had targets on range. Course was extremely dry and hard. Lot of weeds on greens. But this is a fun course at a good price.
