Callahan Golf Links
About
Callahan Golf Links in Waleska possesses a rich history of more than 150 years of farming and family ownership. Before being converted into a golf course, the site functioned as a farm from the Civil War until World War II. When creating the course, the natural beauty of the landscape was carefully preserved. As its name would suggest, the layout is a true links design with carefully placed pot bunkers and thick cuts of rough. Water is barely present but there are plenty of other challenges throughout that will quickly make you forget that fact. It is gentle enough for beginners but the back tees will challenge more experienced players. Golfers can also work on their short game on the chipping and putting greens or warm up on the driving range. The affordable rates make Callahan Golf Links an excellent value.

Pace of newbies was awful
As usual I jumped on through golf now for a round since my plans for the weekend cancelled. I was paired with a few high school kids, which was actually really entertaining. The greens were decent, accounting speed and amount of play the course receives. Par 3 tee boxes were a bit patchy but playable. The layout was similar to most municipal track you will play, some good holes a bad one here and there and but mostly meh.
We followed two groups of guys who could barely contact the ball. After about 5 or 6 holes both groups were pretty hammered and at that point even slower than before. The spotter was around but from what we could see, not saying anything.
The course had new carts, but our cart died on the back 9, we put a request in though the gps, but had to walk the final 4 holes.
Overall, I would play it again, but would be selective at time of day. I get it, you run into newbies in the afternoon, which I understand and appreciate that they aren’t playing in the morning when more serious golfers typically play, but when players are falling out of the cart drunk it’s probably time to step in.
Needs water stations and bathrooms
No ball cleaners, bathrooms, water stations. Course was ok condition for winter.. overall fun to play.
Cow Pasture
Golf carts not calibrated to course. Constant beeping even though you’re on the cart path. Fairways are dirt. Tee boxes are dirt. The course has been neglected. Poor clubhouse layout now that they have combined the check in desk, pro shop and grill all into one area. Slow process…
Disappointed in time/golf cart management
We made our tee time for 2:50 in hopes of getting all 18 in while knowing full well it would be very close. Arrived to find that they were having to turn golf carts around as players finished. In doing so, pushing our tee time back to 3:20. As a result, only getting in 12 holes. Also saw multiple (only 2 but on a packed Sunday that should absolutely never be the case) groups of 5 ahead of us; which obviously didnt help our already slow round. Callahan definitely won on Sunday, Feb 2. Feel like a refund is in order.
Slow play on s weekday
Over 4 1/2 hours to play on a weekday is ridiculous. Course is in OK condition. Some of the greens are nearly unplayable and the tee boxes are in desperate need of attention.
Not sure what happened to this course but it is going down hill fast .In desperate need of someone who takes pride in their work to bring this place back to what it should be
Its all the small things that this course doesn’t do that add up to a not very enjoyable day
Course is open, greens are terrible
a 10' downhill putt on one green will roll 3 times as far on the next green. Super inconsistent and terrible greens. Maintenance staff are working on bunkers and cutting tee boxes/fairways while you are playing. Because half the holes are in the open with any wind it is a disaster and we were playing in gusts of up to 40mph just impossible to shape shots(maybe I am just bad). Greens are really the worst part of this course. on a nice day with no wind I would play it for a max of $35
Great course
Exceptional course and friendly staff. The temps were low 40s with some winds but very much bearable this time of year. Tees and Greens good shape but had to keep it moving to stay warm.
Excellent Course for the value
Too bad it was just too cold the day we played. Course was in great condition and layout was moderate. Good course to play with your buddies. Would come back again when weather is better.
