Might be back to normal in 4 weeks.....
What did you do to your greens?!? The most savage aeration I have ever seen; 3 weeks after doing them they are horrendous, i.e. unputtable. I typically have found Echelon to be in solid condition and after 3 weeks figured the aeration would have mostly filled in, but unfortunately I couldn't have been more wrong. The greens are so bad it wasn't even worth attempting to putt. I won't go back for at least a month and even then I'll be surprised if the greens have recovered.
Airated greens
COurse was airaired 10 days before we played and greens were sanded that morning again. Most courses on GolfNow now post when they aren’t being airaited. Very disappointed in the condition of greens. They were also adding sand to bunkers, good for the long term but in reality I would never have booked a tee time drove 1hr for this conditions. Layout is pure and pace of play was great.
HOLE IN 1!
I had my 3rd HOLE-IN-1 on #3 so it was a great day/round.
The course is in good shape for late February. Greens are fast and rolling pretty true. Bunkers need a lot of work but that's pretty typical for all courses north of Atlanta.
Looking forward to getting back out there when the course drys out and its not cart path only!
Golfers Dream
Loveed my round 2nd time around and hit 15 strokes better... this course will reward you with great shots had at 4 birdie putts but only converted 1 alsmost had a hole in one on number 8 2’ away from flag... Greens are always in good condition and the course was a little soggy from the rain put still played true will try to keep this gem in my monthly rotation!! You play good here you can dominate other spots!!
Echelon Country Club
Nice championship course it was cold but it was fair shot makers course , if you don’t have a yardage book or some local knowledge have a gps because you will need it for the first time .. you have to be precise coming into the greens trouble all around with bunkers and hazardous.. Major elevation changes on back you have to hit bombs uphill on a couple to score but right placement you can score. Will be back
Only 90 degree. CPO CAN'T HELP YA
Very nice but tuff test played long, greens were $$$$=, chipping around have it problem , tee boxes are nice flat
You gotta rip it off the tee
Blues are fine from.6500,7100 from golds. Tuff
Fun no.h9uses.or.cart.girl
You better bring A game at escshlong........
A beautiful place to play
Im not one for taking the time to write a review about a golf course, but this one is well worth a review. If you have a single digit handicap this is the place for you. If you have a high handicap you might want to buy some balls in the pro shop. If you love to hit wedges all the time on par fours and 7 irons in the par-5 this is not the place for you!! I Iove this place for all the lie and shots that you have to hit. Not to mention some of the best bent greens around. This place is a must play! Just beware it not for the faint of heart.
Love the course
This is one of my favorite golf courses. A very challenging course. Sometimes it can be extremely difficult in the summer when the rough is growing. Everyone there always treats me great. The greens could be a little faster, but they are allways in good condition. In the summer they are always in good shape and with them being bent grass, that is highly unusual in this part of the country.
Echelon
Challenging golf course for most players- good set of tees to accommodate every type of player- course and greens kept in excellent shape last three years- undulating and usually fast greens make good putting a must- new clubhouse with good food and service. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and helpful- beautiful practice area for all shots and putting.
All in all a great place to golf and challenge all of your game- Or use one of several pro’s for lessons-
Pluses, minuses, and options
The course is a great layout with the two nines being opposites - the front is relatively flat while the back has significant elevation changes. It helped having someone who had played the course before give us targets as many holes were blind or had hazards not visible from the tee. There is no GPS on the carts which are gas powered. The tee boxes and fairways were very well maintained. The greens were mowed closely and rolled true, but were pockmarked with recently repaired and many un-repaired divots, so they looked much worse than they played. I was told that Echelon hosted a tournament recently and had grown the rough out for it... and then rains came, so it was longer than normal. Knowing that helped me understand why finding an errant shot was so challenging, but also made getting the ball back into play even more challenging. The staff was friendly and always had a wave as we met them during our round. They have a well-stocked bar, but no food service early in the morning which would have been nice since it's an hour drive from Atlanta. I like the course, but am not sure I'll come back given the price, the distance to get there, or the length of the rough. Your results may vary.
Best I have ever seen it!
Echelon is in the best shape I have ever seen it. The greens are always good, need to firm up after our recent rains. The fairways are in excellent shape, very few divots visible. The rough does not appear tough but it is just high enough to make it difficult to advance or get a big flier if you are lucky to have it sit up. Todd and staff continue to do a great job.
Oh by the way, I shot my first ever 71 from the blue tees. Love this course!
Nicest Public Course in ATL
Echelon is a pristine golf course in the northern ATL area. The round was about $80 which is pricey for me, but it was worth it. It has awesome elevation changes, and is upkept wonderfully. 10/10 would recommend.
Elevation change makes Echelon a true test of golf!
This is by far one of my favorite courses in the Atlanta area. Echelon was built in the early-2000's as a private course and suffered tremendously when the market crashed around 2008. They opened it to the public but never even had a clubhouse built by the time the developers had to sell the property in 2013. Since then, the course has begun to thrive and the conditions get better each year. The new owner, in fact, just opened up the newly built clubhouse during Masters week of this year.
On to the course review....The course is set on quite a mountainous piece of property which makes the views spectacular but can also lead to some frightening scores. There are rolling hills throughout the course, so a lot of the course knowledge is just knowing which hill will kick balls back into the fairway. The tee boxes here are so flat and well-manicured and the greens are always in good condition. There is a tee box for every skill level as it maxes out around 7600 yards but I promise with the elevation changes, you'll want to move up a tee. If you're a local or an out-of-town visitor, Echelon needs to be at the top of your must-play list. You won't regret it!
Favorite course in the Atlanta area
Echelon is a top notch facility in every way! The moment you pull into the course the staff are waiting at the bag drop to load your clubs on a cart. After you get checked in you can utilize the practice facility that is on the same level or even a step above some of the best private clubs in the area. The Rees jones design is a shot makers paradise! The fairways are really wide but the layout is so hilly that 90% of your 2nd shots the ball is going to be slightly above or below your feet. I thought the front nine played easier than the back due to the forgiveness off the tee and large collection areas if you miss a green or two. The condition of the course from the tightly mowed fairways, thick rough, and fast bent greens makes this an amazing experience that will keep you coming back for more. My favorite two holes are numbers are the par 5 7th that is reachable in two and #13 a downhill slight dogleg right par 4 that you can really go after off the tee.
Outstanding course. Beautiful elevation changes but the entire course in there in front of you with very few "gimicicky" style holes. Greens are fast but very true. Highly recommend this course.
A must play course
Echelon is one of my favorite courses to play in the metro Atlanta area and is a great test of golf for every skill level of player. This Rees Jones design is a top notch course in every way, from the expansive practice facility that provides the ability to work on every aspect of your game to the championship golf course that is beautifully maintained throughout the year.
The only downside is that there is no clubhouse to enjoy lunch and a few libations after the round, but the caliber of the course is such that it should not interfere with the overall experience.
Great Track but Tough Test
Played Echelon during a business trip after seeing some great reviews on Golf Advisor. Not going to lie....as awesome as this course is, the rough beat me up as I wasn't able to keep the ball in the fairway. Some of the par 3s are all carry and the par 5s are beasts of holes. The back 9 has some picturesque holes with some great views with elevation changes. I didn't play my best round, but the round was still awesome as my buddy had a hole-in-one on #17.
NOTE: With clubhouse under construction, took some time to find the pro shop considering we had 1st tee time and still dark.
Good Test and a Nice Track
Echelon is a championship golf course and easily plays above the rating and slope. While not a tight golf course, there are several long carries and the penalties for modestly errant shots tend to be high. Much of the difficulty is due to the rough and side slopes. Many holes have significant elevation changes. The course was in good shape for November with very good greens. However, the bunkers were only in ok condition. The rating suffered due to marginal pace of play and the lack of staff to manage play. This course has fewer amenities than the typical muni.
Echelon is a good walk
I played Echelon over the summer and thought the course was in wonderful shape. The course was pretty hilly to walk especially 15. The clubhouse and practice facility where suburb. The fairways where in great shape and really enjoyed the par 3 3rd hole. It made for a tough day because my putting was off. You really have to have the ball below the hole. There are also lots of forced carries on par 5's. Overall I thought that the course was in great shape.
Golf 5 stars, Amenities Not On Par Yet
Conditions breakdown
Tees, fairways, rough 5/5, rough = pitchout if you have more than a 9iron in hand in most cases
Greens 3.5/5...just heat effect on bentgrass
Bunkers 4/5...some rain wash out effect
Clubhouse...TBD, under contruction.
Echelon is a true championship layout. Choose your tee box wisely...unless you are <90 on average, I would suggest the white tees. Not overly penal in terms of water, but bunkers will challenge every tee shot , and every approach.
Back 9 has a lot more elevation change.
Tough, but not intimidating if that makes sense...my second time around it...pricey, but you can find good bargains on their online tee times, we'll be back.
