Poston Butte Golf Club
About
Located just southeast of Phoenix in the town of Florence, Poston Butte Golf Club offers some of the most affordable golf in the area. The course has desert attributes but the best part about its design is that it is more forgiving than some of the overgrown desert courses found in north Scottsdale. The golf course features 49 sand traps strategically placed around the landing zones and greensides and water comes into play on two holes. It is generally a player-friendly layout though with wide fairways and ample room off the tees. The par-3 17th is the signature hole, which is known for its challenging island green. Poston Butte also offers a double-ended, targeted grass range and a short game area.

Course Management and Greens
Hello, the last few times we golfed here the pin placements are ridiculous and the greens are very dried out. The pin placements are so ridiculous when you put it up to the cup it’s about an inch from the cup and then veers 7 inches away and down the crest of the slope. I don’t think even Rory McIlroy or Scottie Scheffler could stick it on the green they are so hard. The staff inside the pro shop have never been friendly for years, they need some attention. People have complained time and time again but it’s quite obvious Troon doesn’t care. Also there is never a Marshall on and play is slow oh well. Very disappointed in this course.
Feels like a Private Club
Good course with great layout. Gives the vibes of a private club. Pretty easy with the exception of the longer par 3’s. Condition of the whole course was great except for the greens; grass was dead, bumpy and unreadable.
Great course. Difficult greens
Course is in excellent shape however greens appear baked. Do not hold approach shots . Very fast.
Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers in great condition. The greens were in poor condition. Cut short, no roll, dormant grass. Ball fizzes and zig-zags on slower putts close to hole. Not good.
The fairways and tee boxes here were immaculate. Unfortunately, the greens were in the process of being over seeded so the greens were a bit bumpy, but otherwise we’re in excellent condition especially considering the time of year. Jaime in the pro shop was extremely friendly and helpful as were all the staff. 10/10 will be a course we return to on our next AZ trip.
Members Only
Starter made a point that walk-ons and newbies not welcome! We all know that regulars and members make or break a GC. No need to be rude or just make the course members only.
Great value compared to other area courses. Always enjoyable.
Greens are dead
Great staff and typically great course. The greens are dead. Not too sure what happened but would avoid until fixed. Like the entire green on every hole is gone. Dead.
Greens suck
Can't believe Troon lets this happen, grainy crap greens, reminds me of a worn out mini-golf place, try to misread as best chance of making a putt, some super should be fired, I'd play in a hay field if the greens are good, on positive side, nice layout and fairways/bunkers in good shape, can't believe I drove (should have flown) out this far for this
Greens a bit grainy, but overall a great track. Highly recommend.
Nice
I have played here a few times over the years. The course is usually in nice condition, but this time I was a little dissapointed in the greens. They were extremely dry, hard, and fast. Like putting on concrete. The fairways were nice and green.
I got a HOT DEAL, so only paid $65. It is unfortunate that they are normally in the $125-$150 range during peak season, and only book a week in advance. I'd play more frequently in the $75-$100 range.
Painted greens
I played this course about a month ago, some of the greens were painted and the fairways were a little patchy. Fairways now are good and greens are all painted
Great Condition
It’s has been years since I have played fairways that were in that great of shape! 👍
They were perfect. Like hitting off a Tee

Greens being over seeded? Sorry, they don't overseed in the spring. Also, Poston Butte doesn't overseed their greens. The grass is in dormancy.
