Palms at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
About
Desert Springs Resort has a longstanding reputation as a luxury resort that offers something for everyone. There are two championship golf courses that sprawl across beautifully landscaped grounds covered with lush vegetation and sparkling lagoons, providing a scenic oasis amidst the desert surroundings. From nearly every hole at the resort, golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the Coachella Valley and Santa Rosa Mountains. Water is the most prominent feature of both golf courses. Between the two of them, over 35 acres of water features come into play. The Palms Course is the slightly more challenging layout of the two, but both are accessible to players of all skill levels. The layout features well guarded greens, thick rough and towering palm trees bordering the holes. It has a memorable finishing stretch that starts with an island par-3 on the 17th and finishes with a tricky dogleg par 4 with water all along the left side.

JW Marriott entry w/Palms decorated for Christmas Photo submitted by dpeagleton on 12/22/2012
Great course
Course was in great condition. Tee’d off at 6:30am on a Friday. No one in front or behind us. Wonderful experience!
Palms at Marriott
WE have played this course a few times and always happy to return. I love the layout, the course is in great shape, especially considering over 100 degree weather. I would recommend this course and we will play it again.
Not Enough Water
Course was in nice shape considering the hot weather. Greens were fair and in good shape and fairways were nice.
The biggest gripe was lack of water on the course. Playing in 40C weather and no water in the golf cart and WARM water in the water machines on the course. Not very good at all. The $16.00 caesar wrap at the snack shack was a bit extreme as well. Didn't really like the loud music and the guy yelling into the speakers at the hotel pool either but not sure what you can do about that. Starter and driving range guys were friendly. Glad I paid a low green fee or would have been more disappointed.
course in decline
pace of play was unacceptable. Had to skip a hole to get ahead of two groups that were holding everyone up. No marshal to speed things along. Dead fish in the water stinking to high heaven. Always liked this course but not too sure now.
Good Experience
Played the Palm Course for the first time, actually I live right down the street and pass this course all the time, so this course has been on my list to play for awhile, plus I waited for the summer rates to kick in. I thought the course was in good shape, especially with all the extreme heat the valley has had over the past couple weeks. I have played a lot of summer golf, I fully expect the fairways and greens to not be at their peak. The greens were fair, I had good roll on my putts with just a few bumps and bounces, to be expected. The fairways were in decent shape, the winter grass is slowing dying off, but I had no issues to speak of. My real only grip, not the courses fault, was the slow playin front of me. I started my round 2pm and I had a good 20 min between the last two sum to tee off, by the third hole a three sun and a pair of two sums all bunched together, I just turned around and replayed holes 2 & 3 again to give me some space, since nobody as behind me. My overall course experience was good, just bring plenty of water, they give you a cooler with ice but no bottle waters, why I don’t know.
Fun course
Great staff
Had great fun and laughter. The course was in great shape. The layout and tee selection made it a fun and challenging round. I will definitely play this one again on my next visit. Keep up the good work.
Great Desert course
excellent conditions considering the water shortage.
Pace of play
No round of golf should take four and three-quarter hours to play. No Rangers no marshals nobody on the course push people along. Slow play was tolerated by the staff.
