Desert Springs Resort has a longstanding reputation as a luxury resort that offers something for everyone. There are two championship golf courses that sprawl across beautifully landscaped grounds covered with lush vegetation and sparkling lagoons, providing a scenic oasis amidst the desert surroundings. From nearly every hole at the resort, golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the Coachella Valley and Santa Rosa Mountains. Water is the most prominent feature of both golf courses. Between the two of them, over 35 acres of water features come into play. The Palms Course is the slightly more challenging layout of the two, but both are accessible to players of all skill levels. The layout features well guarded greens, thick rough and towering palm trees bordering the holes. It has a memorable finishing stretch that starts with an island par-3 on the 17th and finishes with a tricky dogleg par 4 with water all along the left side.

I don’t know what to think of some of these negative reviews in a resort destination filled with many many choices and many great golf courses most of them immaculately kept. This place track was wonderful. Yeah could’ve been just a tad bit greater sure. More pristine maybe but there was certainly nothing lackluster about this golf course fantastic. Backdrops T boxes is in great shape. Pay to play was very good at what you would expect from a resort type of golf course and the last three holes had plenty of teeth to give you an exciting finish to a wonderful day out here at the JW Marriott golf links hadn’t been back there in eight years thought it was absolutely wonderful

Great course worth the money

Super friendly staff and course was in great shape minus a few burnt spots on some greens. Played a weekday afternoon round and was able to get 18 in before sundown. Course is a bit expensive, but not overly challenging and you should have a good time. Would reccomend to friends

Palm Course.

Greens were sparse but they rolled pretty well. Other than that the course was in great shape.

Open fairways make it a friendly course for the driver, but it has plenty of length so it’s still a good challenge for a resort course.

Poor Shape

The course was in poor shape….Aerated greens, sparse grass on approaches and fairways

Unfortunatley no communication regarding the aerated greens, yet still gouging the player for full green fee

Would hope a Marriott resort would do better.

Desert golf protected by water

Water is the hazard of choice on the Palm Course at the JW Marriott Desert Springs, a Ted Robinson design from the late 1980s. I lost more balls than I care to admit but had fun trying to take on a few heroic carries. The four-hole finishing stretch is where golfers better have their wits about them. Three water-logged par 4s (nos. 15, 16 and 18) are trumped only by the impressive waterfall feature everybody photographs on the par-3 17th.

Fun layout, but horrible condition conditions

As with any desert course, they overseed in the fall. This course was due for overseeding starting a few days later. It seemed as if they just let the course die off. The conditions of the fairways were terrible. Lots of bald spots. The tee boxes were not much better. The greens were OK. I regret paying so much money for such poor conditions. They know full well the conditions of the course prior to overseeding and yet they still charge the normal price. I will not play here again.

Not worth the money

Course is in bad shape right now definitely not worth the over $200 fee. Right now it’s probably five out of 10.

Horrible!!!

This course has seriously declined in all areas!! It was definitely not worth the amount paid!! There are way better courses in the area for much less and with conditions 10x's better!! I'm not sure what was worse... the poor service or the trash on the course, ugly fairways, grass clippings all over the place, the thick uncut greens. It was horrible!! it was like someone who didn't know how to use the mowers just went crazy and cut in all different directions, area and just left the course in terrible shape!! NEVER AGAIN!!!

HORRIBLE CONDITIONS!! Garbage course!!

This course was a big disappointment. It used to be such a beautiful course and was well maintained. I have played many courses in this area and this by far was the worst we have experienced. The service was horrible from the bag drop to the very end when we returned the cart at the end, Dead grass and clippings everywhere, The greens were way below par and hard to roll a decent and straight putt. There was trash along the cart paths on most of the holes. It was very sad!!! The bunkers were mostly dirt and not sand. Most fairways were thin and just flat out dead!! The rough was at least 6- 8 inches thick and the course in overall was just not well maintained and looked ugly!! Its crazy how the cart guy at the beginning was so rude and rushing us to hurry up or they would pull our tee time and just being a jerk... and then at the end he wants to be super nice and clean our clubs for a tip!! Your tip and the amount started when we first arrived buddy!!! It was a horrible experience and I cannot understand how it gets such good reviews and high ratings! This course at most should be no more then $45 to play. Shadow Mountain is half the cost of this place and 10x's better in all areas!!! Never again!!
