Palms at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
About
Desert Springs Resort has a longstanding reputation as a luxury resort that offers something for everyone. There are two championship golf courses that sprawl across beautifully landscaped grounds covered with lush vegetation and sparkling lagoons, providing a scenic oasis amidst the desert surroundings. From nearly every hole at the resort, golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the Coachella Valley and Santa Rosa Mountains. Water is the most prominent feature of both golf courses. Between the two of them, over 35 acres of water features come into play. The Palms Course is the slightly more challenging layout of the two, but both are accessible to players of all skill levels. The layout features well guarded greens, thick rough and towering palm trees bordering the holes. It has a memorable finishing stretch that starts with an island par-3 on the 17th and finishes with a tricky dogleg par 4 with water all along the left side.

JW Marriott entry w/Palms decorated for Christmas Photo submitted by dpeagleton on 12/22/2012
Palm Desert CC not too bad
Greens were good. Sand was adequate. Fairways a little bare. Good pace 4 hrs
My personal experience
Arrived in the pro shop and excited to just play golf my local private course I belong to is doing work on the course and I didn’t want to play interrupted golf. As I approach the desk to pay for my green fees I innocently asked what’s the difference between the dunes and the Mountain layout degree of difficulty slope or anything I was told in a very demeaning way that the course was $189 versus the $79 that I was paying and I was only paying the cheaper rate and I said money is no object I just don’t like being insulted thinking that I’m some poor idiot! hey can’t afford to play golf ! I will never return to this facility again. I brought out two friend whom are members of Wood Ranch CZc in LA and they were embarrassed . The dunes course looked terrible and looked like a resort desperate for revenue. This facility is not even a true PGA West facility in fact they are several miles away and using the name to claim the money. Disliked that entire experience. SilverRock and Desert Willow are far better facilities!!!
Greens not completely healed-No hold
Beautiful track and landscapes were spoiled by the greens that wouldn't hold any approach shot over 100 yards. I'd like to play again with better greens.
Great track for both beginners and experienced players!
remember it's a resort course
and there will be players out there that lose a dozen balls and slow everyone else down. that said, the pace was still under 4.5 hours.. we waited on every tee box, no ranger in sight. good fairways and condition. greens were very challenging
Marriott Palms Course a disaster
The pace of play was very slow (5 hours for 18). The management overloaded the course with too many players.
The green were a disaster. Mostly bare and very lumpy. Impossible to make a putt move true to the hole. The ball actually wobbles on its way to the hole. Will never play here again, since there are many other good options in Palm Desert.
Shame on Marriott management.
Resort Course, much better options in area
Pretty standard resort course, group was pretty underwhelmed. Some fun shots and holes but nothing overly memorable, I could have played that course in the Midwest.
Experience could have been better
The greens were not in good shape at all, although fairways were nice. Group in front of us held us up several times - no marshall available, apparently. Snack shop was closed when we made the turn - couldn't even get water. Not impressed.....
Gorgeous and challenging
Enjoyable round on this gorgeous course.
Was busier than I was expecting as Golf Now had a lot of open tee times available around my time.
Some residents Obvs taking those open spots which slowed things down a bit especially after they had played a full 18 prior to the 11:15 tee time I started.
Course layout is great and GPS a nice touch. Was a single and got paired up with 2 great randoms so the round was fun even if I played badly.
17th was a treat a dnd nearly made an ace but was still worthy of photo it’s so beautiful.
Greens were fast (from Seattle so anything is lightning quick in comparison) but played true. You don’t want to be pin high here!
Bar cart stopped by once but they stop earlyish so we only saw them once.
Need more ball wash and water stations.
Looking forward to coming back and would highly recommend if your looking to test yourself if a high handicapper wanting a challenge.
Would play again and again and again!
