Glen Abbey Golf Club
About
The 18-hole Glen Abbey Golf Club in Debary, FL is a semi-private golf course that opened in 1974. Designed by Dominic Palombo, Glen Abbey Golf Club measures 6661 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 137 and a 72.9 USGA rating. The course features 3 sets of tees for different skill levels. The greens are bermuda grass and the fairways are winter rye.
The Glen Abbey course winds through gently rolling landscapes of sylvan splendor and a 60-acre body of water known as “No-Name” Lake. There are no parallel fairways and all fairways are tree-lined. Water comes into play on eight holes. There are 80 strategically placed bunkers. Crepe myrtle, elderberry and oleander plantings are an aesthetic addition to existing magnolia, oak and towering pines which frame most fairways.

Mixed feelings about this course
I have played this course about 6 times in the last 3 months and I kept hoping it would get better but the conditions are just awful. The staff however is wonderful and I feel bad writing a negative review which is entirely about course conditions and not the staff. I have played there frequently lately as my wife is a beginner just learning the game and the course was not crowded so she didn't feel rushed or intimidated. The greens fees are very cheap but this is a case of you get what you pay for, There very few holes where the grass in the fairway is abundant and in good shape. Most fairways are mostly weeds and sand. What is not sand or weeds is bare dirt hard as concrete. It can make for a very frustrating golf experience to hit a ball well and where you want it only to find that your lie is horrible. The greens are actually not bad but weeds are beginning to take over. If price is your biggest criteria then I highly recommend but I just got too frustrated with the conditions to come back again.
needs work
the greens are good but the fairways need to be punched. they were hard and not much grass.
New owners, greens excellent, fairways and tee boxes need work. Staff excellent, would play there again
Give Yourself Good Lyes
Indeed, giving yourself a good lye is absonutelynecassary at this place. There is so much sand both on the fairways and on the side hills near the bunkers and the greens such that you have a hard time finding your golf ball for that reason alone. You may need to move it by more than ten yards to find a reasonable patch of grass. However, the folks who play there have good ethics and will let you through without hesitation. This seems like an ideal spot for anyone just starting to play golf. On a positive note, the greens are much better than what you see on the practice green before heading to the first tee. For the final hole, no 18 that is, I would suggest you keep you drive left of the two tall trees, otherwise your golf ball may end up withithin a dozen or so other golf balls that have just rested near these trees from the driving range.
Super Friendly People
The folks here are great. Friendly and helpful.
The greens are in nice condition and the fairways are good but if you get off the fairways at all you will most likely have a sandy lie or maybe some weeds.
Great value though especially in the afternoon.
Great course, always a challenge
The layout at Glen Abbey is great, especially the back 9. The fairways are in good shape, but you will have a variety of conditions when you miss the fairway. The front 9 is quite easy compared with the back, and many a round has been deraiked by hole 9 10 and 11, however it is a great challenge.
The greens can be super fast and hard to read, i personally love them. Lastly, the staff in the pro shop are extremely friendly, and helpful, I wish other courses would take note of this sometimes.
My friends and I play here regularly, and with very reasonable pricing is one of our favorites to play.
Saturday Speed Round
Teed off at 7:30, done and in the car at 10 am-- played alone, worst hole when the single in front of me said "please, play through . . ." All downhill from there. Not the course's fault- mine. Had a good time anyway (always do). Early in the season, expect I'll play better as the year wears on. Was gratified to come home and watch Tiger . . . at least somebody's getting better . . .
Golf course needs maintenance/attention to fairways and tees and cart paths. greens were in good condition but overall in need of TLC
Good course for the money
My buddy and I are average golfers. We both agreed the layout of the course is very good, the cost of drinks and food at the turn were reasonable, the greens are in excellent shape for a public course, and we felt we more than got our money’s worth for the round. We will definitely go back and play again. Give it a shot... I think you will like it.
A fun Sunday.
Had a great round on a near perfect Sunday afternoon.
Nice course
Nice well maintained course
Pace slow
Very poor golf etiquette by those behind us
Probably snowbirds with lack of simple courtesy and very loud
Course in good condition
Not LPGA, but in nice playable condition. Greens nice roll true. Nice challenging not overly hard course. Fun layout. Glad to. See it’s comig back good. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Got stuck behind a slow 2some. But poor golf etiquette I don’t blame on the course. I’ll be back Sunday.
S-L-O-W
Its that time of year when we are besieged by northerners and its a different kind of play. People on a 450 yard par 5 wait until the green is cleared before they tee off. They drive the carts right up to and practically on the green itself. There are no rules as to where to keep the cart off of. There is no such thing as "keep pace with the group in front of you", or "allow faster players to play through". Can't wait for spring!
Plenty of twists and turns at Glen Abbey.
We had a great round. The course could use a little upkeep/maintenance but over all very playable and still challenging.
Over Seeded
Fairways were over seeded and greens were quite good.
Update- Played the course again on June 30 and things have improved. There is still a ways to go but the grass in the fairways was better although still a bit sparse in some areas. The greens were in good shape and the weed encroachment I mentioned earlier has been addressed. Very happy to see that an effort is being made to improve the conditions as I really like this course layout. Kudos....I will be back.
