The other Royce brook
Today was a pleasant day of golf The conditions were better than the private side. I know because I made a wrong turn and played a few hole on the west. The west was harder but the east greens were better. I played 27 holes. My score was a counting score on my handicap so I played well. The conditions contributed. To my good score because I made some putts. 50 bucks was a great value
Solid day
Course was solid today. Greens were great. Bunkers are garbage. Should just fill it in with grass at this point. Like hitting off cement.
Just not worth $100. Should be 1/3 that price
Wide Fairways
Royce Brook has extremely wide fairways, but the ruff is thick & tall. The layout is interesting & challenging. My one complaint was the condition of the bunkers. There was very little sand in the traps making it difficult to play out of them. Greens rolled true with good speed.
Not in great shape
First, I really have loved Royce Brook in the past and have played it often but not recently But I spent $104 to play here on Sunday, and the course in not in great shape. I played it after the hurricane, but the conditions weren't due to the hurricane. There is zero sand in the many bunkers of the East course. If you have a course, where you highlight how many bunkers you have, why is there no sand? And we did call prior to booking to see if there was any damage, which they told us the course was unaffected. And the maintenance around the bunkers is awful. Grass that hasn;t been mowed in weeks, in some cases, 12-16 inches high. We have several balls trickle off the green, and towards the bunkers, never to be found again. Not to mention, you really can't post a score when the bunkers are unplayable, but not marked as under repair. The greens are in great shape. I would rather play down the road at Mattawang, for $45 than pay $100 for this. Or play Neshanic, a county course, nearby, which is in pristine condition, for $65 in county. Stay away until they repair this. It's a crime to charge that much for this quality.
Not a playable course
Charging $100 for Royce Brook East is a crime. This course is in horrible shape. Every single bunker is unplayable and overgrown (see attached picture). The rough is over grown and tee boxes are chewed up - everywhere. A complete disgrace.
Enjoyed the round
Played the East Course on a somewhat rainy day right in front of a tournament outing. Pace was extremely good. Greens impeccable. Rough - deep but fair. Fairways close to perfect.
Royce
For a track that got 8.5” or rain less than 48 hours prior the East Course was in spectacular shape. Puddled sand traps abound but considering the rainfall they experienced the course was in fantastic condition.
Challenging coarse
Coarse was in good to fair condition except the bunkers were unplayable. Most had not drained and were water hazard or there was no sand, just hardpack. Other than that, the coarse is very nice. Most holes have small, well protected greens. Sightlines on many holes are difficult to pick up and the rough is long and thick. Play your first round here as an exploratory expedition. Staff is very friendly and helpful both on the coarse and in the bar/restaurant. Definitely looking forward to playing another round here now that I know the layout and to stay on the fairway.
Nice track. Fun to play. Hole layout information could be better. Yardage book, signs on the tee, on the app, something ….anything.
Pace of play
I really wish the starter controlled the pace more. I had a round last 5 hours because I had two guys in front of me who were taking at least 20 minutes a hole. Other than the rough being a little long it was a great course and I recommend it.
East course. How much could sand cost to put in bunkers. Same thing last year fairways and greens in good shape. Staff in past were nice. This time not
