Desert Springs Resort boasts two championship courses designed by Ted Robinson, the Palms and the Valley. The golf courses are known for their beautiful setting, offering unrivaled views of the Santa Rosa Mountains and the Coachella Valley. The Valley Course is considered the less challenging of the two, but both offer a stunning landscape covered with swaying palms and blue lagoons. The course features player-friendly fairways that beginners will enjoy, but there are also a fair amount of challenges. Like on the Palms Course, there is plenty of water. Between the two golf courses, more than 35 acres of water features come into play in the form of man-made lakes and streams. In addition to the two courses, Desert Springs also offers an 18-hole putting course, which offers all the same challenges as the other courses including bunkers, water hazards, and undulating fairways.

Not what we had hoped…..

We have played the other Marriott course years ago, so when a morning (8:30) tee time popped up at a reasonable rate we grabbed it, figuring we would get a quick round in before the heat of the day.

Check in was great, all the staff including the starter were great, and the range was in perfect condition. The practice green seemed slow but we didn’t give it much thought.

We went down to the first tee on time, and that was the start of an agonizing four hours and forty five minutes. We waited on literally every shot. Sometimes, later in the round, we waited on a tee box for more than five minutes. The foursome in front of us teed off from three different tees. We often see that, but this group was not to be rushed, or even move at any speed but slow. A couple times, they had a completely empty fairway in front of them, on a par 5. One of the group seemed to be more interested in talking on his phone than hitting a shot.

On the 11th hole, one of their carts began to fail. They finally abandoned it and at some point called the pro shop, and the replacement cart showed up on 14. We watched as two 60 year old men carried their bags in 80 degree heat for two+ holes, wondering if we were about to see cardiac arrest.

Condition of the course was only average. We’ve played 15 rounds on this trip, and these were the slowest greens we’d seen. It took a major effort to putt hard enough-downhill!

I doubt we’ll return. If we do, we’ll try to schedule in the afternoon on an empty course, I would guess they have a lot of hotel guests who don’t play much. I don’t want to watch that…..

Customer service was sorely lacking. Very disappointing. From the time I arrived to check in I did not feel welcome. Waited 10 minutes before someone provided me with a cart. No sand seed in the cart. Driving range was closed. Greens were extremely slow and shaggy. Fairways were shaggy as well. Overall experience was shocking for a higher end resort.

Pace of Play Horrible

No marshal on the course, called three times and no one appeared. I get it, this is resort golf in an aging community, but 5+ hours with no relief was painful. No food available at the turn on the Valley course.

Marriott Desert Springs - Valley Course

I thought course was in great shape. They needed one more forward tee box though to give the less experienced golfers some confidence.

Sand traps were deep - however, the course has a rake shortage - so go in equipped properly.

There was a mix up at the course and I booked via GN for ~$109 per golfer. When I got there they charged up the full price, so I figured I messed up and just paid way more than expected. During the round I reviewed my booking confirmation and noted the total due atcourse was ~$200. Stopped at the pro-shop on the way out and they did confess it was a glitch and we got the youth green fee. They provided us with a charge reversal on our credit card that is supposed to show up in a few days - funny how that goes, as the initial charge was on my credit card by the 6th hole.

Given the discount we got it was a great value

Poor course conditions

Greens have previous cup marks all over the greens, that have an impact on your put.

Tee boxes are in really bad shape.

Based on Course conditions I would say it’s worth around $75 per round not $200+. Other course in the area at this rate are in significantly better shape, but there are plenty of available tee times.

Incredibly disappointed!

Vacation Golf

Had a great day always try and play one or both courses when were in palm desert. Valley course is much more challenging than the palms course. food and drinks at the seafood restaurant is a must after the round food is always fantastic as well as the service and view on the outdoor seating.
