Desert Springs Resort boasts two championship courses designed by Ted Robinson, the Palms and the Valley. The golf courses are known for their beautiful setting, offering unrivaled views of the Santa Rosa Mountains and the Coachella Valley. The Valley Course is considered the less challenging of the two, but both offer a stunning landscape covered with swaying palms and blue lagoons. The course features player-friendly fairways that beginners will enjoy, but there are also a fair amount of challenges. Like on the Palms Course, there is plenty of water. Between the two golf courses, more than 35 acres of water features come into play in the form of man-made lakes and streams. In addition to the two courses, Desert Springs also offers an 18-hole putting course, which offers all the same challenges as the other courses including bunkers, water hazards, and undulating fairways.

Fun course

Greens were slow but otherwise in good shape. We paid $130 on golf now which was good value. Wouldn’t pay $200

Great course terrible bunkers

Course was not at all busy. Almost never had to wait. I don’t know where the other reviewers are accustomed to playing The bunkers had very little sand. On several bunkers, the sides have washed out. Many of the bunkers had a substantial amount of grass growing up. I did not see a single bunker in the condition I would expect for a course charging $174 for timeshare owners and over $200 for outsiders.

The greens were in good shape. They could be a little faster.

Loved the course

The Valley course was in excellent condition. The layout of the course is challenging but not overly difficult. Some of the fairways are quite undulating so can pose some blind shots. Greens were in great shape and fairly easy to read. The bunkers appeared to be well maintained and thankfully I didn’t need to test them out myself. Pace of play was very good although I did play early in the morning so don’t know how much that changes as the day goes on. Water on a number of the holes. Overall an excellent course that I will play again.

Desert Golf Adventure

We had a great day on the course, the pace of play moved along well with only a couple of holes where we had to wait. The course is beautiful and in good shape, the staff was very helpful. The drinks from the cart were outrageously expensive.

Not in great shape

Have played here in the past and was disappointed in the conditions. Greens were kind of ragged, slow and quite bumpy. They didn't look that healthy. Rest of the course was in reasonable shape.

Resort Course

Played early morning with my wife as we were staying in property. The range allowed for warmup before the round. The putting green is closer to the 1st tee on the opposite side of the range which was nice. No starter on the Valley Course so we checked in with the Palm Course starter. Several groups at the 1st tee figuring out who was up first.

Course conditions were fine. Tee boxes and fairways were good with only a few bare areas. Greens were smooth, but fairly slow. Likely due to the severe undulations and mostly resort golfers. Bunkers were inconsistent and could use a bit more attention. There are some pretty holes including the 18th, but no real signature to remember. Several of the holes border busy streets so passing traffic takes away from some of the environment. Not terrible, but after playing PGA West the day before, it was noticeable.

Pace of play was good early in the morning and we saw the beverage cart at least twice in each nine.

Value was ok and the convenience was nice considering we were staying on property.

Disappointing in the course overall condition

I have played the JW Marriotts courses a number of times and the course this year is not in good condition.

Valley Course is average at best

Valley course has a fair bit of undulation which makes it a bit more challenging. Greens are small and fairways have lots of uneven lies. Not overly long from tips. Unfortunately, day we played greens were quite slow (8.5-9). Had minimal interaction in pro shop checking in....minimal. Pro hardly said anything! Starter was phenomenal, super friendly! Backshop guys likewise. #16 island green is an interesting hole. Beware of #18, blind 2nd shot to tough green protected by water/lake! Overall, ok to play once, but not sure I would go back again, especially for the price.
