Good course layout could be better
Good little course for the money, only thing is it would be ideal if they had some better sings showing where the next tee is and if the scorecard had a map.
Challenging inland links course
A tricky quirky unusual challenging course looking like a links course but situated well inland loved the course including the sheep wondering about even having to wait till they crossed the green before playing an approach shot. Back 9 more difficult then front nine driving over quarries driving across a public road is unusual but having to dibit twice in 1 round is very unusual. Full marks for the course pity I can’t say the same for the food which I can only describe as terrible. Lasagna swimming in fat one layer of pasta no tomato flavour in the meal meal jacking garlic bread chips soggy greasy and very poor. Course gets 9 out if 10 Food gets 2 out iof10
Holywell
Great conditions, course in good Nick. Pro - what a nice guy
Excellent conditions
Played at Holywell for the first time today and I was greeted by the pro who was very helpful and friendly and explained the course layout in detail. Course was in great condition with all holes open even after all the courses in the area being closed the previous week. Will definitely be returning, fantastic club !
A hidden gem
Played in December after a lot of recent rain. Only 14 holes open, but really enjoyed the course. The holes that were open were playable, and had drained really well. Not many hazards on the course (apart from sheep) but it was a decent test and the quirky inland links nature of the layout made for a great days golf. Members and Shop Pro were very helpful. Will definitely be revisiting.
A good golf course
Holywell is a nice challenging parkland/heathland course on common land where sheep roam freely. Greens were very good condition. Front 9 is much harder than the back 9. Fairly flat course. Good fun.
Holywell Mid Week Round
A friendly Golf Club with challenging holes on a dry Late August day.
Course reasonable , but sheep everywhere and unexpected on the Course complete with droppings .
Links like in presentation with gorse and hummocks , the coffee and bacon rolls pre game and quiet peaceful surroundings made this little gem of a place an enjoyable day out just off the North Wales Coast .
Holywell
Course in good condition apart from gorse and bracken
Enjoyable round in beautiful Holywell
A very good test of golf with some long challenging holes. Very good true greens and interesing layout. Very nice par 3s. Very friendly members and pro. I will definitely return.
Absolute gem
Last minute decision to play on a hot deal whilst travelling between north Wales and Chester. What a choice it was. From the fabulous welcome in the pro shop, to a thoroughly enjoyable round on a quirky and occasionally testing course. Don't be fooled by the wide open spaces and lack of sea views. It's a property links style challenge. Wind was strong and the fairways have all the bumps and hollows you would expect. Greens were a touch slow. It had rained an awful lot on the preceding day and they maybe could have warranted being cut a millimetre or two lower.
Finally it would not be a review without mentioning the sheep. There's loads of the buggers all over the course. This just adds to the quirky charm of the place though. Whilst we didn't hit any there were a couple of near misses and we had to shoo a couple off tees. Bizarrely though their etiquette is great and we didn't come across a single one on a green haha
Thoroughly recommended and will definitely be back again on our next visit to the area
Holywell
Nice course pleasant walk some good holes plenty of sheep.
Decent but can’t help feel slightly overpriced
Had a good day at this place, but the course is extremely bumpy so I wouldn’t advise the buggy rental. Staff are sound and course has some lovely featurescapes but feel it is slight overpriced at 30 quid a round. Would play again but maybe not at that price. Sound gaff though.
Disappointed
I have played this course quite a few times over the last 20 years and have never seen the greens in such a bad state, bald patches all over the greens they are the worst greens I’ve played on in many years and if I were you I’d avoid for the next 6 months until they get them sorted out. I was really disappointed to say the least.
Bargain.
It is a bit like playing a links on top of a mountain. Yes there are sheep around and the 3 hole loop is a bit iffy but the rest of the course looks and plays great. Some tough par 3's and one tiddler but it is over a quarry. The 18th is played over a proper road-where else can you experience that-literally have to look left and right before teeing off? Played it and it was blowing a gale but it was great fun and even better value.
