Great long course. Ground was wet so no run at all.

Excellent facilities and most welcoming staff.

Will be a lovely course in the summer

We've just had alot of bad weather which has taken its toll on the course, give it a few months and it'll be a lovely course.

Should have been closed

The course was so water logged it should have been closed. I personally think they Just wanted to get some cash on a bad weather day. We were offered vouchers if we didn't want to play but I personally think the course shouldn't have been open in the first place

Frozen golf

Played the roman road. Greens covered in ice and solid. Why the course wasn't shut I don't know. Claimed a voucher from them and they give me half my money back. Pretty bad as we only played 9 holes.

Great Course

Great course, really interesting, variety of holes, bit of water towards the end, plenty of elevation so a very enjoyable round. Was very wet (no fault of the course) and this made it tougher than it would normally be as playing very long. Facilities/staff all excellent, would thoroughly recommend if can get a deal :)

It's just something special..

Being new to the game of Golf I'm throwing myself into all types of courses under the stewardship of my Bro-in-Law who plays off 3 (I'm at 25). Celtic Manor just makes you feel special, from be greeted by the staff to actually playing the courses (played Roman Rd) the whole experience is great. Course was challenging but not too scary! Whilst it was wet the course was still in great condition and the greens were still pacy. I've now played The Monty and Roman and can't wait to build up my levels to take on 2010! In travelling from Bath it's only 50 minutes so I'll be visiting frequently! Love it!

Great course

The course and facilities are excellent. The only negatives were that we were a 2 ball playing behind a 4 ball and we weren’t called through. Also the speed of the greens varied in the back 9 compared to the front 9.

Gread day at the Roman road course

Played the course after a very long dry and hot spell so the fairways was hard but the greens were in v good condition and very fast. Very challenging but there's a lot of steep hills, we walked with trolleys and was OK but a buggy would be required if your not mobile enough.

Would recommend that you play here.

Enjoyable course in excellent condition

Though I concur with other reviews which note the Roman road is not packed with character and lacks truly memorable holes it’s still a high quality course. Fast greens and reasonable distance off the whites will challenge lower handicaps. However, for the most part it’s relatively open and not the most punishing course for higher handicaps.

Condition was excellent throughout and overall worth a visit for a reasonable tee time. We paid just under 40 pounds a round which felt about right.

Don’t waste your time and money

I have played this course 4/5 times, each time there is an issue. I am a scratch golfer so like to test myself at the “best” places. Either speed of play or course conditions or general animosity from staff. As the “home of welsh golf” it is an absolute disgrace, the value for money is shocking. You can find better courses for half the price in most areas of Cardiff. Played today when really it should have been closed, they are clearly rotating the courses and closing the Montgomerie to give it a days rest and then putting everyone on the Roman road, rather than closing both and not wasting peoples time and money. Awful place I will never go back again. £38 for a buggie! £48 for a round in OFF SEASON. Please whatever you do do not travel for this course you will be hugely disappointed unless you are used to playing pitch and putts week in week out. Don’t let them rip off any more people it’s really not on. Disgrace to welsh golf.

Wet

With the recent rain, the course was sopping. Of course Celtic Manor can’t help that, so why moan.? They were open and cheap. No temp greens or winter tees. The round was enjoyable. Greens played well. Friendly staff. Some absolutely stunning holes with gorgeous views.
