Great for the time of year
Play this course most years and this is the best I have seen it for many especially for the time of year. Only the links open in the winter but well worth the visit. Had a change in greenkeeper a year or so back and now the benefit is beginning to show. Only criticism would be that tee times are not available in the afternoon as other courses on the Lynn are.
Great experience at Pwllheli
I had a great time at Pwllheli. Staff and members were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. Given the time of year the course was in a good condition, particularly the stretch of links holes from 8 to 11, which would have to be up there with the most enjoyable stretch of 4 holes I’ve played anywhere.
Always enjoy the course. Interesting mix of links and parkland. Despite a lot of rain recently the course was in decent condition. And we received a very friendly welcome in the pro shop & clubhouse.
Excellent course
Great, challenging course. Preferred the back 9, as that’s the links side of the course.
In the front 9, the greens weren’t the best, which did affect play as they were especially slow, but the back 9 greens were perfect.
Would play again and highly recommend.
Circa 3hr 30m for a 2ball.
Sunny day in pwhelli
Weather stunning.
Staff friendly and welcoming.
Course in good nick although on the day we played there was a lot of sand on some of the greens.
Very interesting course with both parkland and links sections which make you feel like you’ve played two courses in one round.
Enjoyed a pint on the balcony bar afterwards served by very friendly staff….well done Pwhelli !
Lovely views and a very warm welcome.
Am holiday in the area, decided to take my golf clubs, 5 minutes down the round found Pwllheli Golf Club. So sort out a tee time, found the best day weather wise all week. Arrived and was made to feel very welcome as a guest. Was shown the course and the direction I was heading in. Some members were in the group in front very friendly. Kept asking if I wished to play through, but as I didn't know where I was going decided to follow them. The course was in fantastic condition, well maintained and the greens were excellent. Really enjoyed my round and a first time experience of Pwllheli Golf Club. Stopped off for a cheeky pint afterwards and was made to feel even more welcome. Could not recommend my experience highly enough. Thankyou
Great course
Travelled from Scotland to nearby holiday park and had my first visit to pwllheli golf course. Course conditions were brilliant and loved the links even if they were difficult to play on
Poor condition
The course has suffered badly with the wet weather. The first seven holes are in very poor condition with greens well below their usual standard, the remainder are ok but nothing to write home about. Give it a miss this season and try Abersoch more expensive but in great condition and worth the extra.
I have enjoyed Pwllheli in the past but was very disappointed this year and will not return.
Poor condition
The wet weather has had an adverse impact on the course particularly the first seven holes. I was looking forward to returning but was ver disappointed with very poor condition I will not be back, I recommend giving it a miss this year. Try Abersoch much better and we’ll worth the money.
Fantastic golf club!
What a great golf club Pwllheli is. ALL of the staff and patrons couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome and makes this club very special and a must for us to return too. The course is one of two halves with parkland to start on the first 7 and then moving to links on the back 11 - there are some fantastic looking holes that are very challenging but they have suffered with the recent wet conditions and the front 7 holes (which had only just opened for the year) had suffered a bit as a result. But please don't let this put you off - the green keeping staff have done a great job to get it open (opened the afternoon before we got there and whilst a bit squidgy, it still played well) - within a few weeks it will be top notch again. We will definitely return again to play it in the condition the patrons normally enjoy!
Lack of preparation work
I understand that the course has been subjected to a lot of rain overwinter and that holes have been closed. However, the course was drying out well but there was no sign of work taking place to cut fairways etc. even where conditions were dry. This was not the case at Caernarfon the day after where continual cutting was taking place. At Pwllheli, greens needed cutting and were quite slow and uneven.
Pwllheli golf club
When we booked no one told us 8 holes was shut because of the weather, if we would have known this there is no way we would have played. They also had a couple of temporary greens which was very very poor to say the least. Then the greens was absolutely covered in sand putting was impossible, we let two other players us as we was only a two ball they was so disappointed they walked off after 4 holes.
I’m sorry but never again, we played other course close to this course and they was all in top shape so they managed to sort with the same weather
Quaint Course tucked away
This is a nice course with friendly staff on hand to assist you. Unfortunately on my visit, the course had suffered alot of rainfall which rendered the first 7 holes OOA. That said, the 8th through to 16th were nice. Some of the greens were also being dressed on my visit, which wasn't ideal, but I understand why it was necessary. Overall, it's a nice course, and pretty challenging (when all the holes are available to play) I'd recommend. 👍🏻
Not fully open but still enjoyable
Only played the links part of the course. Not really unusual given the last six months of rain. Unfortunately, the club website wasn’t updated so we didn’t know beforehand. The part we played was enjoyable with the course pretty dry and the greens were very good.
On arrival after a 2 hour car journey we was informed that only 9 holes of the course was open due to bad weather which I completely understand but was offered no refund whatsoever, I was told I could play 9 holes twice which obviously made the course much busier ,the holes we managed to play where in good condition and I would say it's a course that normally would be good value for money ,
