A timeless stroll through the valleys.
Tucked quietly within the folds of the Rhondda valleys lies a true hidden gem of a golf course, a place where the game feels less like sport and more like a journey through a living painting. Excellent value for money scarcely captures the richness of what’s on offer here: rolling fairways, sweeping views, and a serenity that money can’t truly buy.
The course itself winds through dramatic hills — a stern test for the legs as much as the swing — but every step rewards you with scenes of quiet wonder. The slopes are clad with pine, their sweet scent hanging in the crisp early autumn air, reminding you that you are far from the bustle of the everyday. Here, Welsh wildlife is a constant companion: sheep grazing lazily on distant slopes, squirrels darting through the trees, and a lone hawk circling with grace above it all.
Perhaps most magical of all were the streams, cool and clear, bubbling beside us as if whispering secrets from another age. Their music followed us from hole to hole, lending a rhythm to our round and a sense that we had wandered into a place untouched by time.
Yes, the climbs are hard work, but in exchange you are gifted vistas that stretch endlessly across the valley, a reminder of golf’s oldest allure: not just the challenge of the course, but the chance to walk in landscapes that stir the heart. This course is not just played — it is experienced.
This course provided a good challenge
Was made to feel very welcome by the club secretary and members course was in good conditions many interesting holes very good value would definitely recommend.
Keep your wits about you
Enjoyable round but the layout of the course means you need to always be aware of your surroundings. Crossovers between various fairways and tee boxes meant a fair bit of waiting around for players to clear and a couple of near misses with wayward shots from different directions.
However a decent, well kept course overall with spectacular views and some tricky holes, including the daunting incline on the 13th and many tight tee boxes that punish wayward drives.
Stunning Views and friendly people
Played the course solo, was a very easy laid out course, with big hills but is all worth it for the views you get from the tee boxes! Friendly members chatted to me while I was going round, Would definitely return again!
Great course and tight fairways
Great course, tight fairways on slot of the holes. Wonderful views, greens will improve I’m sure and a terrific overall golf experience.
Generally tired and in need of some love and money attention around edges, clubhouse etc. no pro in the shop or check in process for green fees.
Still a nice experience.
Great challenge
This course is a great challenge. Long well managed fairways. Fabulous greens. Not for those without strong legs as huge climbs around the mountainous course. Every hole was an interesting and a golfers dream. Keep hydrated as your in for a great workout
On arrival I didn't think much as there were sheep on the fairway. Very quickly I met staff and two members, all of whom were friendly and welcoming. During the round I joined up with two other locals who gave me a lot of help plotting my way around the course. Although holes criss crossed quite a bit it was very well signed posted. Great views and a real challenge. For £25 highly recommend it.
Hilly but interesting
On top of a hill so some good views. Well maintained fairways and greens. Some very hilly holes but also some flat holes.
Seemed abandoned
I arrived and walked around the club house but everything was shut and could not find a sole. Thought I’d go on the putting Green and warm up till someone walked passed but nothing. I decided to just start my round 15 mins early since I saw no one.
The course was pretty nice really and the greens keepers were about cutting the grass and some holes really did need it. I did notice a good few of the bins on each tee box was over flown and rubbish was scattered about, also some bunkers looked terrible to be honest.
Over all I payed £25 for the round and I feel a bit dissatisfied with it as a whole. If it was half that price my expectations would have been lower.
Burnt greens
The course is a challenge for our first time fee blind shots. Makesure your ball is the right side of a few fairways. Some tough holes, but I’m sure second time around will be fine.
The shop is well stocked and head pro (I’m assuming) was very friendly and extremely helpful. Made us feel welcome.
The only issue was the greens a lot had little grass on them, the current weather had definitely got the better of the them.
Will come back though
Good Walk
Warm welcome received upon arrival.
Course was wet due to recent weather but fairways and greens were fine all things considered.
Will come back in the summer to see how it plays.
It is a good walk and would recommend a buggy if your not very mobile.
Views are great.
Great Fun
We booked 2 tee times to play a friendly tournament amongst mates - and just our luck, we booked on April’s rainiest day.
Round started with a very friendly chat with the gent running the club shop (unfortunately have forgotten his name but he was a star), who kindly talked us through the course and wished us luck on a very wet and windy day!
The course is great fun to play, par 5 second whole was a nice softener on your way in to the round. Some challenging climbs - especially “Heart Attack Hill” hole 13. Genuinely one of the best courses I’ve played in the last year. There was a tiny bit of standing water in places on the course, but I was shocked at how well it was standing up considering how terrible the weather was, greens and fairways firm, and the course was in superb nick.
Cracking pint in the clubhouse afterwards and a bit of a laugh with the old boys topped it off.
Thank you to everyone at Pontypridd Golf Club! We will be back!
Superb
Staff very friendly only 9 holes open easily get lost but other golfers very helpful
Closed - should have let us know :)
Guys were friendly when we turned up and course was closed.
They should have had a sign or something adequate in place at the bottom of the lane, as ice was ok going up but very dangerous going down.
had our booking details so should have called/emailed on the day saying course is closed. as this would stop any potential accidents with people driving to top of the lane only to find out course is closed
