Burnt greens
The course is a challenge for our first time fee blind shots. Makesure your ball is the right side of a few fairways. Some tough holes, but I’m sure second time around will be fine.
The shop is well stocked and head pro (I’m assuming) was very friendly and extremely helpful. Made us feel welcome.
The only issue was the greens a lot had little grass on them, the current weather had definitely got the better of the them.
Will come back though
Good Walk
Warm welcome received upon arrival.
Course was wet due to recent weather but fairways and greens were fine all things considered.
Will come back in the summer to see how it plays.
It is a good walk and would recommend a buggy if your not very mobile.
Views are great.
Great Fun
We booked 2 tee times to play a friendly tournament amongst mates - and just our luck, we booked on April’s rainiest day.
Round started with a very friendly chat with the gent running the club shop (unfortunately have forgotten his name but he was a star), who kindly talked us through the course and wished us luck on a very wet and windy day!
The course is great fun to play, par 5 second whole was a nice softener on your way in to the round. Some challenging climbs - especially “Heart Attack Hill” hole 13. Genuinely one of the best courses I’ve played in the last year. There was a tiny bit of standing water in places on the course, but I was shocked at how well it was standing up considering how terrible the weather was, greens and fairways firm, and the course was in superb nick.
Cracking pint in the clubhouse afterwards and a bit of a laugh with the old boys topped it off.
Thank you to everyone at Pontypridd Golf Club! We will be back!
Closed - should have let us know :)
Guys were friendly when we turned up and course was closed.
They should have had a sign or something adequate in place at the bottom of the lane, as ice was ok going up but very dangerous going down.
had our booking details so should have called/emailed on the day saying course is closed. as this would stop any potential accidents with people driving to top of the lane only to find out course is closed
Seemed abandoned
I arrived and walked around the club house but everything was shut and could not find a sole. Thought I’d go on the putting Green and warm up till someone walked passed but nothing. I decided to just start my round 15 mins early since I saw no one.
The course was pretty nice really and the greens keepers were about cutting the grass and some holes really did need it. I did notice a good few of the bins on each tee box was over flown and rubbish was scattered about, also some bunkers looked terrible to be honest.
Over all I payed £25 for the round and I feel a bit dissatisfied with it as a whole. If it was half that price my expectations would have been lower.
Superb
Staff very friendly only 9 holes open easily get lost but other golfers very helpful
What a shambles
Turned up, pro shop closed, barman on phone to someone. 20 minutes later he told me I could start, 5 minutes after that he gave me a card. Temporary greens on most of the front nine - some 150 yards or more from the green. Greens seemed perfectly fine, so not sure why temporaries needed. Poor signage from green to tea. Members generally ignorant and very, very slow. Lost 4 or 5 balls in the middle of fairways - leaves everywhere (though none on the trees), some mulching. Absolute shambles of a golf club. Really no right to charge people money for playing on it. Don't think they really want visitors there. Definitely not going back there.
Great course
The course layout looked amazing, it was a shame that 9 holes were closed due to the extremely wet conditions, but the welcome and the holes we did play were amazing.
Amazing views, really well maintained, good few challenging holes
Great value for money.
Staff and members very welcoming, course was in excellent condition especially the greens. We'll worth a visit for all abilities.
Nice mountain course
Nice mountain course with fantastic views, very friendly staff and members well worth giving this a go
First time at Ponty GC
The course itself was brilliant, and the practice facilities were good standard too. The 18th wasn’t as enjoyable to play though as the members on the terrace were very loud , to the point you could here them on the tee box, let alone the greens.
Tough walk, needs cutting
Good value for money, decent layout, tough walk. Rough cutter wasn't working and on very firm fairways meant long looks for golf balls just off the fairway. Slowish but true greens, friendly welcome from members who seemed genuinely happy to have visitors on the course.
Worth the fee
Course was the best condition iv seen in years... Pace was not good 3 older members playing super slow and wouldn't let us through stuck behind them from hole 6... But that did give more time to take in the course natural beauty i suppose.. Definitely an improvement the club could make is push the pace of play issue to its members (we were a 3 ball and still tight behind them)
Tough course but good!
Ponty is definitely a tough course, its very narrow in places and very steep, as its on a mountain, but its a nice course with great views of the valley below. Unless you’re an extremely good golfer, you definitely need either a buggy or a powered trolley, as its a beast to push a standard trolley or carry! Ive played twice on my own now and the other members always ask if I’d like to join them (If they’re in a 2 or 3 ball), so all very friendly and accepting of visitors. After the round, they have a lovely club house, where you can get a drink and weather depending, sit outside and watch people finish on the 18th green! Great pro shop too, Rob is particularly good, very friendly, great knowledge of the course and a top bloke. Will definitely play again.
Great morning of golf!
First time playing the course. Welcoming staff and a great course lay out. Great fairways!
I can image in the winter or after heavy rain the course might get boggy due runoff from the slope.
If you can’t face a hard walk get a buggy
Very nice course but if a slog especially the thirteenth lovely club house and bar
Frustatingly disappointing
I visited this course for the firs time after having a round cancelled at another course. It was a very much 'lovals membership' vibe course. I could not find my way in to the clubhouse to check in. Eventually when I did, i was simply met by a guy on a phone call who asked for my name and said "yeah just go straight out". I didnt get a scorecard or any guidance about the course.
The course was only operating 9 holes and they were a mix across the course. 2nd hole was temp green about 100 yards short (apprecaite with weather the difficult conditions).
I went down the third hole before being told that it was not open (there was a flag there to play to). The two guys i spoke to did help direct me though which was kind of them.
After the 7th, i had to go to the 11th. There were no signs, no guidance of how to get to the right hole. I went to three different tee boxes before finally finding it. The 12th was so waterlogged it should not have been open really. 17th temp green again over 100yds shorter.
Once i got to the 18th I realised why there was so much poo on the golf course. There were sheep just walking across the course as I am playing.
I would not recommend this course in the winter at any time and I definitely wont go back.
