Slow x2 ball ruined pace of play
Lovely day, friendly locals.
Good conditions, front 9 held a great pace.
Back 9 we caught up with a x2 ball in a buggy (we were on foot) and they didn’t let us pass to play through.
This ruined the pace of the round and decided to go in on the 16t due to their lack of etiquette.
Will play again and would recommend.
Good value tricky course
Though short a tricky course with plenty of doglegs, trees, and hazards throughout. Some interesting holes and well worth a round for the competitive green fees.
Members friendly and welcoming
Friendly helpful
Friendly and helpful staff, greens was a bit dry but in good condition. I would definitely go back
First Post Covid round with friends.
Great value , course in good condition and had a friendly welcome from staff.
Sllllooooooooow
First up, course is in a great condition on a wet & sunny day. Greens are soo fast but they are up there with the best conditioned greens in the area.
The issue. The booked time was 11:50 (ish), when we teed off there was a 4 ball on the green ahead, by time we got to the second hole we were waiting half way up the fairway and when we got to the green one of the 4 told us that there was a comp on and they were the 3rd set of 4 balls and that was why they couldn't allow us to play through but also 'it's going to be really slow sorry'. Really slow would have been an improvement as 4 hours later from that point (not including the 20 minutes we'd already been on the course) having played 16 holes we left the course. If there is a comp on why are you selling tee off times behind the competition? There is no excuse for that pace of play, zero. At the 16 tee box there was us (a 2 ball), a 3 ball and a single all waiting the course got that backed up. Not good
Great value, friendly staff and members
Played as a 2 ball, first group of the day.
Greens in great condition.
Only played here a couple of times, still getting used to the layout and the lines off the tee.
Great value fore money
Hidden gem. Tight course with plenty of variety. Greens and fairways are very well looked after
Conditions
Course very good ‘ will improve with some rain on fairways
Not very friendly members
Quite a hilly course , do not come if you are carrying your bag . Not all members were friendly ( one picked up my ball and denied it) very slow pace of play , waiting on every tee boxes to tee off . Course fairways needed a cut and greens were very slow . Lots of par 3s and only 1 par 5 .
Decent course excellent value
Money well spent on a good course. Greens were okay obviously worked on, the course is fairly hilly with great views. Not busy and will certainly return.
Entitled members
Played this course today in back to back two balls, the speed of play was very slow so ended up talking while waiting (socially distanced) we were approached on several occasions informing us we couldn’t play as a 4 ball to which each time we had to explain we are not if you watch us play we are simply being delayed.
One time we were approached by and I quote the vice captain who said if we played in a four he would kick us off the course, again had to explain the situation, ruined the day and felt we were not allowed to speak to the other 2 ball while waiting for fairways to clear.
Although this rule did not seem to apply to members who were happily playing in 3 and 4 balls.
My advice is pay a little extra and play the vale of Glamorgan, but if you do wish to play a similar level course then play st Mary’s in pencoed.
It is a shame really as if it was not for the entitled members with nothing better do it could have been a good day on a half decent course.
