Waterlogged
The course, like many others is suffering from the amount of rain which has fallen over the recent month. 4 days of relative dry weather prior helped, but not enough- I can only imagine what the conditions would have been like if it had had more rain that week. Playing off mats is never nice, but understood why. Balls plugging and leaves everywhere made it a challenge to find you balls at times.
Despite this, I would come back but only when it’s had more time to dry out.
Always a good round
I always enjoy playing this course. It can be wet in the winter but the greens are always well maintained. At the moment we have a dry hot spell and the greens are still some of the best in this area. The course is usually not too busy (unlike the Lake course) hence more enjoyable to play. A long course but the layout is more of the international standardsin length and width.
Wales National Course
Beautiful course, very well kept - course layout was good. Forgiving enough for beginner golfers with some wider fairways and largely visible holes. However, obstacle placements and hazards make it challenging an interesting for the more experienced player who would generate greater distance through the clubs.
General attitude of all was very friendly and courteous. The course was quite busy with a lot of groups playing. This only became an issue towards the latter end of the course, where it was taking a considerable amount of time for the chain of 4 balls to clear. I was invited to join a pair in front of me to save the waiting time.
Fantastic experience, would definitely recommend!
Vale National
Staff friendly and helpful as always. Course realistically too wet to play on in areas. Greens and tee’s in good condition, the rest of the course far too wet to the extend unable to find plugged balls in the middle of the fairway
Not bad but not it’s best!
A fairly good day on the course. There has been a lot of rain recently and the course was very wet (nothing to be done about that). Some balls were difficult to find due to plugging in the wet and the grass off the fairways being a little longer than usual.
Greens were in great condition considering the wet weather (quite a few divots not repaired though).
Pace of play was painfully slow, 3 groups waiting on some tees. We waited on every tee after the second hole.
I’ve played the course before and it’s been much better. An unlucky combination of poor weather conditions and very slow play in front unfortunately.
Some lovely holes and a good variety of golf to be played.
Pretty poor round
Both being super excited to play at the vale and making a good trip to play. Staff were helpful on check in and the club shop was fantastic.
We only ended up playing 11 holes as that took us four and a half hours, so we came to the decision to walk back to the cars. The course conditions were really poor. Felt really unkept and we’d not had a crazy amount of rain but the course played like the middle of December
Brilliant golf course
Excellent course. If walking, very long so advise buggy. Greens immaculate and course in great condition
The National
Wonderful course, lovely layout, not too hilly for older players to walk, fairways well maintained even the soggier ones it is January after all, the greens looked immaculate but we played the winter greens which subtracted from the experience but not too much, a little disappointed that the 18th didn't have a grandstand finish in front of a gallery. But overall a very nice course and will almost definitely be a better experience in the warmer weather with the greens in play, would definitely recommend.
Great course and setting - slow play
Always enjoy playing the National. It’s a challenging course with some great holes. Most times the pace of play is good, unfortunately on this occasion we were behind a group of 32 and found ourselves waiting on every hole after no 4 and decided to walk off the course after 13 holes as the light was fading. A course Marshall warned us on hole 3 that play would be slow but it shouldn’t take 5 hours to do 18 holes which is the time we would have needed.
Hopefully things will be better next time.
Slow but enjoyable
My wife and myself are relative novices at golf, so we enjoyed the challenge of playing the National course at the Vale. Its a long course with plenty of hazards, like water and trees, so a low score wasn't likely to be on the cards. We enjoyed our round even though it was very slow. The four-ball of lads in front of us were having a torrid time off the tees so it made me feel better about my poor round. Its a challenging course with a lot of variety between the holes.
Excellent golf course
We played the national on a hot tee time and we’re so impressed with the value. The course was in excellent condition despite the recent hot weather and the greens were excellent. The starter did tell us that the pace of play would be very slow as there were lots of 4 balls out in front. It took 4.5 hours to get around as a 3 ball, which felt like a bit of a long slog.
However, we thoroughly enjoyed the round and would definitely return.
Great layout
Very enjoyable place to play, very challenging course depending on what tees you play . Wife rented clubs ,sim2 set, and we rented a cart otherwise the hills would have been quite a walk.would definitely recommend to play ,driving range was good and pro shop had everything you could ask for.lunch could have been a little better but we didn’t have time for a full meal
Beautiful course
Course is long from the whites 6950 yards but plays like 6500 a lot of roll in fairways and downhill shots ,nice layout ,would play again and again
Lovely course
Stunning course. Played on a boiling hot afternoon, had a buggy, potentially would’ve struggled walking due to the heat.
Fairway and rough conditions very good. Greens a bit slow but ran true. Enjoyable day and course for sure
