They’ve let the course go…

It’s marketed as Wales National course but unfortunately they’ve not looked after it at all. Tee boxes in poor conditions, unkempt across a number of holes, poor conditions of greens and surrounding areas, aiming poles situated in wrong positions. It’s a shame the course isn’t looked after better given what it used to be! They must be skimping on the green keeper salaries!

Wales National Course (in December!)

I was delighted to get out for a round of golf and please I chose the National Course for it. At £27 it was great value for money - although I would happily have paid £35/£40 if they were to offer a bacon roll/coffee alongside some range balls to make it more of an experience.

The course itself was in okay condition for the time of year. The greens were faultless (yes a little slow but rolled really nicely). Pace of play was great too with all groups letting me play though as a solo player when needed. There is a real mix of risk and reward holes alongside holes you need to plot your way through - this would clearly be easier you were to play a second time. It would be worthwhile if the course had some signage with a hole map like a lot of other places do as often the landing area is out of sight from the tee.

The course was wet and I was surprised that there were no roped off areas as letting trollies all the way up to the fringe of the greens was clearly having a detrimental impact on the condition. Even some of the fairways on the back 9 they should just tell trollies to keep to the cart paths.

Overall, a really enjoyable experience but can’t help think a couple of small tweaks could make the experience so much more for not much stress. Would happily return in some dryer conditions too!

A top quality championship course

Many would say it's not for high handicappers but I enjoyed it, you can get around nicely in bogeys and doubles and not have to play it like a professional would. Of course low handicappers find it a tougher challenge than most.

The quality of the course, layout, amenities and surrounding are all excellent.

Wet wet wet

I’d stay away from this course in wet weather. It’s a lovely course, but it struggles in the winter more than most.

Slowest round ever!

The pace of play was terrible. It took 4 and a half hours to play 16 holes, and we had to finish our round early because of bad light. Bits of the course were waterlogged with some bunkers looking more like water hazards. The greens were in poor condition with very long grass. It’s a shame because the course has a great layout with a lot of very good holes.
