Cottrell Park Golf Club - The Mackintosh Course
About
The historic parkland of Cottrell Park is set in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan and it is an idyllic setting for a golfing venue. Cottrell is very conveniently located, being only a few miles from Cardiff and it's International Airport. The beautiful parkland covers over 400 acres and offers breathtaking views sweeping northwards as far as the Brecon Beacons and southwards over the Bristol Channel to the Mendips. The golfing facilities include two championship golf courses, the Mackintosh, (6,499 yards off the white tees), and the Button Gwinnett, (6,192 yards off the white tees), as well as an all weather floodlit driving range, putting greens and golf practice areas.
A True parkland, par-72 course with mature trees up to 300 years old. The Mackintosh provides 6,499 challenging yards off the championship tees and is designed around the original features of the historic parkland. With excellent drainage providing summer golf all year, this course includes four par 5s, four par3s and 10 par 4s, making the Mackintosh a testing but enjoyable walk.

Fantastic course for the money.
Really excellent course kept to a very high standard and really good quality would recommend it to anyone.
Great Facilities & Value for Money
My only single complaint was about the attitude and rudeness of the senior supervisor working in the pro shop. I politely waited at the till to be served, when I started talking she rudely interrupted and asked me to hold on, whilst she continued her conversation with her colleague. Once she had finished her conversation, I explained I’m checking in for my tee-off, she asked for Golf Now reference (have never been asked this anywhere), but I had no mobile connectivity. She advised there was Wi-Fi, which I connected to, but kept getting “No Internet Access” error. I explained this to her but she immediately dismissed my comment and offered to take my phone, which I politely declined, as I’m quite capable of connecting to a Wi-Fi network. She advised I cannot proceed without this reference, so I headed outside where I managed to get basic mobile connectivity, gave her the reference #, which turns out she didn’t actually use for anything. Poor attitude, maybe having a bad day due to extreme heat!
This does not apply to other staff, especially bar staff, who are always excellent and very friendly.
Good value for your money
First time playing here really enjoyed it course in really good condition glad we got a buggy will definitely be back to play second course
Very nice course and facilities.
Very nice course, in great condition. Club staff were accomadting and friendly. Would like to go back and play the other course.
Slow play
Played this course this afternoon, weather brilliant, course looking in good shape. Was let down due to slow play. There was some sort of tournament on which we was not informed beforehand or when checking in. Took two player’s just shy of 5 hours to finish. Very frustrating day!
Tournament
I played this course this afternoon, brilliant weather, course looked in great condition, but was let down by slow play due to there being a tournament there, would have appreciated being informed before booking or when checking in. Took 2 players nearly 5 hours to complete. So was very frustrated coming off
A good time!
3 friends and I played the Mack on Monday afternoon. The overall experience was great, the setting is lovely and the layout of the course was good fun.
We were disappointed that the fairways hadn’t been cut but put this down to the amount of rain we’ve had recently, it would have been nice to told about this before hand. It was like playing out of the rough the whole time.
Not the best
After playing the button previously the mackintosh felt like the ugly sister all the fairways might as well been the rough since the grass was all the same height on a positive each hole was well labelled
Slow play not monitored
We'd been looking forward to this first round, despite the conditions underfoot. The pace of play of the 4 ball in front of us was unacceptable however. Either they had not been told about slow play etiquette or they simply played regardless, we lost almost an hour over 11 holes, and had to skip a hole to get past them. Slow play needs better control especially on winter days when you run out of light!. GUR needs reviewing too - some very messy areas off the tee. Loved our first outing despite the pace - will return when the days are longer!
Stunning Autumn Round
Tees apart, which clearly had a hard time during the unusually hot dry summer, we found the course, especially the back nine, in great nick. This is a course with plenty of longer holes to test your driving ability, as well as plenty of hidden greens on the front nine. Highly recommended
Fantastic course
Second time playing this course and about 7 years gap. Absolutely loved the course, it was in perfect condition and as a result I played my best round ever!
Great condition
Played with my son who had not Played there before, course in great condition and really enjoyed . Pace of play was fine until hole 10 and then was really stop start due a very slow 4 ball that held up the two in front of us and as a result we were waiting on every hole as was group behind us. Other than that everything was fine including the nice cold lager in the clubhouse after
