Welsh Wonder
Visiting the area on a holiday and decided to book Welshpool Golf Club as a spur of the moment idea. I was not disappointed. Wonderful course. Incredibly well kept and spectacular views. Club was welcoming and gave me a course map and talk through some of the holes. Lovely welcome. Course is gorgeous and in wonderful condition. I did get a little wayward a couple of times but the map helped set me right! Would absolutely recommend and I’d play here again
Very nice course
My wife (hcp 30) and I (hcp 11) played this hidden gem on a dry sunny day. A wonderful undulating course, nice lay out, stunning views 360, challenging for both of us. Highly recommended!
Very challenging, with fantastic views and greens
I found the course challenging, with some great holes. The views are extraordonary and most of the greens are fantastic. The only reason i havent given 5 stars is because of the fairways. They are so uneven. This is no doubt due predominatly to the terrain but if yoi suffer from a bad back youll be like death warmed up after 18 on a buggy.
Hilltop links
A fantastic friendly club.
Played on a wet and windy day which spoiled the experience a little. Some fantastic challenging holes with great views- even in driving rain! Would love to return when the weather is a little kinder.
Hidden gem
Hidden gem, great value.
Interesting course in beautiful surroundings.
Food also very good value.
Cracker
Bring a good set of lungs here and you’ll love it.
Course in great condition, friendly staff and locals and pace of play was spot on. The views are magnificent.
Nice
What a lovely course. Very up and down which is no surprise considering where it is. I did walk it but would recommend a buggy for anyone who struggles to walk. The course layout and paths are all geared for buggies.
Views, friendly team and a unique experience...
Can't wait to go back and try these greens in summer... Some of the most interesting designs, small targets and lots of places not to miss it!
Charming course with fairways and tees well presented (greens are about a month away from being slick and fast, played in April).
The most amazing views back over Shropshire and can even see Cadair Idris on a clear day. True escapism and an interesting test that everyone should play at least once.
Book a four-ball and experience this little gem where the hole yardages often means nothing because of the undulations and geography. You even get treated to the occasional Red Kite merely feet above your head and the toot or the heritage steam train from the valley below.
Would highly recommend.
Welshpool
This was a very enjoyable course to play - easy to book and nice and relaxed when I got there.
For those contemplating a visit be aware this is very hilly - the driveway up to the clubhouse will give you a clue. I did find the 1st tee eventually but should have asked first.
After 4 holes I was well and truly puffed out. At that point it was worth getting my breath back and taking in the spectacular views. That rolling farmland with distant hills and no traffic noise made for a very pleasant impression.
The greens are generally small and difficult to hold your ball on approach. I didn't bring my shortgame so struggled in the tufty areas around the greens.
The standout hole is the 12th where you drive over a huge valley. Spent a while wondering how on earth to play it and somehow do better than a 6 on what is a par-4.
Honestly great fun and enjoyed chatting to some members.
Tough but so rewarding.
Honestly the people here are amazingly friendly and the course views will blow you away. Get a buggy though trust me!
Wow a must play
Amazing course, people, & service. Nearest you can get to links away from the coastline. Every hole is a challenge & views incredible.
Will play different every time due to the wind!
A testing, undulating course in very good condition for the time of year. With its hilltop location on Y Golfa, Welshpool bears its teeth in the wind, but also offers some of the best panoramic views I’ve ever seen on a golf course, alongside a selection of holes that would be considered signature elsewhere. Modest facilities, but at £25 superb value for money.
Welshpool wet and windy
Lovely course but a hard slog in the rain and the wind. Course in great condition though difficult to get the pace of the greens.
Rate it difficult
Age 69. Handicap 27. First time at welshpool.
As others have said this is a very hilly course. Many on the course were using buggies. we were not. Big mistake.
Being a high handicapper I found quite a lot of the holes needed very long carries to the fairways and found myself playing the second shots from the rough or loosing the ball in the ferns/gorse/heather
The fairways and the greens were well kept and fair. The club house was good and the staff very helpful.
Personally I feel you need to be a low handicapper to really enjoy this course but we still had a good day out.
Thanks to the very helpful staff.
Shouldn't have waited so long!
I finally went to play a round at Welshpool yesterday. Given that the course is only 30 mins from where I live, I can't believe I've waited so long to do so.
I wasn't disappointed. The course was in great shape. Well-maintained tee boxes and paths, and the greens were excellent - often small and narrow, but not so fast that you can't hold them with a decent approach. Loads of interesting holes - particularly the 12th, which has a 125ft drop from the tee to the fairway. The course isn't particularly long, but challenging enough for all abilities. As with all hilltop courses, when the wind picks up, it becomes very difficult.
Definitely worth a visit. I'll certainly be back.
