Awesome Layout, slow greens
First time playing the Preserve. The layout and views of the course are awesome. The elevation changes are breath taking. Lots of shots require accurate ball direction. Plan on spending time looking for wayward shots. Only criticism is the greens were very slow, hard to get a feel when used to playing much faster greens. I booked thru GolfNow, and, as usual, got an very attactive rate. Definitely will be returning.
Fairways were in good shape, Greens were fuzzy and overgrown,, putting was slow and bumpy.
Play this course
Fantastic views, well manicured greens, bunkers and fairways. Challenging layout, you need a GPS with satellite or local knowledge to get layup distances. Bar was closed when we finished the round at 2:30pm on a Monday in May.
Could be a gem...
Weather was perfect and we w ere excited to play for the first time. We quit after 7 holes at the 2 hr 40 minute mark. Would have been a 6+ hour round. Seems like the foursomes around us were "out for the day" and did not know how to play ready-golf, socialized on the greens, etc. We liked the course and the variety of the seven holes we played. Probably a course for the locals who live in the development. Disappointed.
Preserve course
A stunning golf course that offers unparalleled views and provides more than adequate challenges. This is a real hidden gem located a short drive from Tucson.
The course was in poor condition. Greens were slow and bumpy. Little or no grass on many portions of the course.
Interesting layout with many beautiful holes. However, 4 holes force you to lay up short of ravines on your drive (unless you're extremely long) forcing a much longer second shot
Had to wait on almost every shot despite a ranger moving around the course. Also, potable water available on only two holes.
Great features
This course is the only one in Southern AZ. that has no two holes alike, thus most interesting.
Meh
Let me first say that this was my first time playing this course. One of my friends in the 3some I was in, and another friend that couldn't make it raved about the condition this place is usually in. For the record, not in great shape, but beautiful views and worth the greens fees alone. We show up and get decent service from the proshop lady. Prices are cheap for drinks and snacks. Who sells candy bars and chips for $.50? They do. No one is there for a meal, but the extremely old lady is pleasant and tells me to call around the 7th hole, because they are a little slow. Pace is slow. Ranger/cart girl is an old man who isn't too helpful with pace of play, but nice. Begin calling on 7th hole. Call number provided 12 times with no answer. Call proshop and ask if they can poke their heads out door and ask the lady to order 3 sandwiches to go at the turn or answer her phone. NOPE... Lazy man behind counter is reluctant to help after begging. Who has worst service at any course in Tucson? They do. Go inside to eat at turn old lady gives me an excuse and tells me "I'll call you back in 2 hours"??? What does that even mean, but she is polite. Guy in Proshop is still useless and oblivious. Good lunch of fish and chips and bartender is great and apologizes for everyone else. I assume she does that way too often. Go out and finish the round more problems and soak in the views, because I'm never going there again. Worth the money oddly, but not worth the drive and feeling like you are not worth their time.
good course, great views
This course is currently in good shape, but there are signs that management is letting things slip. For instance, it is still early in the season, but there are dry spots in the fairways and there are intrusions of undesirable grasses in the greens.
The views of the Catalina mountains is a great backdrop.
Great Course but Unfriendly Staff
We really enjoy playing this course. As seniors, we no longer have the distance we used to have. This course provides a tees that offer the perfect distance for senior golfers, yet is still challenging.
We could tell they were slowing down for the season. The dining room was closed and there was no beverage cart on the course. Note: GolfNow, it would be helpful to have this noted at the time of the reservation. We arrived expecting to eat before we played.
We found the pro shop staff to be unfriendly and not interested in our golf experience. There seemed to be a "cliquey" attitude when we played here. We enjoy the course enough to keep coming back, however.
Beautiful course unwelcoming staff
I played today and my wife came along to enjoy the afternoon. She is not a golfer, just came to ride along. I paid a rate rate of $18 but half way through our 18 holes the marshal came up and required us to pay $12 for her to observe! Seems excessive and unfriendly
Must Play!
Great course layout. Challenging from the back tees and fair from middle and forward tees. Greens and Fairways in very good condition. Great vistas. Golf and Nature walk all in one. One of my favorites. Highly recommended.
Great course with beautiful views
The course is great shape. It is very challenging with several holes that are blind shots leading to the green. Beautifully cut into the desert!
Good layout. Beautiful views
Good course fun to play. Good shape for early spring. Fairways very nice no rough. Greens were slow. Would like to play again.
Awesome Course
This is one of the top 5 courses I have played in Arizona. And I have played almost every top level course in Arizona. Very challenging. Greens were excellent. Fairways like carpet. Bunkers, and thankfully I only had one bunker experience, have great sand. Beyond the quality of the course are the vistas. Almost every hole could be used on a magazine cover.
