Moose Ridge Golf Course

About
Moose Ridge Golf Club sprawls across rolling hills blanketed with mature trees and accented with colorful wildflowers. There are more than 90 feet of elevation changes throughout the course, but there are more challenges than the hilly terrain. Well defined bunkers lurk along the greens and acres of wetlands come into play. It's easy to get distracted on this visually stunning golf course, but it's a test that requires all of your attention. The first hole is challenging but gentler than the next three holes, which is one of the toughest sequences in the area. The second and thrid are long uphill par 4s and the fourth is a narrow par 5 with a marsh-protected green. Moose Ridge Golf Club's back nine opens more gently but the respite doesn't last for long. The 15th is one of the most challenging holes, starting with a tee shot over water and followed by an approach to a narrow green.

Downhill
This used to be a favorite course of my groups annual play. However, due to poor course conditions, slow pace of play (Rangers more concerned with collecting bottles), high price for the golf, the cart path only on 9 of the holes and the carts themselves shutting down if one is to close to the greens or anywhere else that it dictates to you and manually overrides the cart we will not waste our money here again. The food is good that's it. Go elsewhere.
Annoying carts
Great course in good shape. However, they have set up the carts with GPS to basically shut down at least every other hole. They constantly give warnings and feedback and literally every other hole is cart path only even though it has been very dry lately. These interactive and very slow carts only prolong an otherwise slow round due to the difficulty of the course. We played behind some drunks and the ranger did nothing to address the pace. It's a real shame but the carts will prevent me from returning to the course. Totally unnecessary and highly interruption - I recommend you take your business elsewhere.
Really nice course
Very enjoyable. Some long holes but overall you don't have to be a bomber to score. Good shots are rewarded, miss-hits are punished. Tees, fairways, rough, and greens in great shape. Beautiful natural setting. Staff was great. I will go back whenever I can.
Mr
It reminds me of Acadia bluffs, only with trees.great track.
Course was great but.... Read review
First off, beautiful enterence way. Walked into clubhouse, huge stuffed Alaskan Brown Bear greeting. Small pro shop. Nice bar area, with gorgeous bartender!
Course: Tee Boxes and fairways were in great condition. But for some reason they put so much wet sand on the greens the putting was impossible. Literally the ball was covered in sand after one putt. And they had 9 out of 18 fairways were cart path only on a dry day, they were roped off for no reason. The carts were just RIDICULOUS! GPS carts that you couldn't go even close to your ball on half the holes.
Overall nice course but won't go back because of the cart situation.
Moose Logde
Very fun course! Staff was friendly and helpful, show up late and guy at counter set me up with options, ended up skippin first hole to get past groups inwas supposed to be ahead of.
Course in excellent condition with only a few burnt areas around a few greens/fringe. Greens were average speed, but rolled very true. Felt good sinkin a few 20 footers!
This place is also a lost ball finders paradise, if u like the hunt in woods check it out
Worst greens ever for a $50 course.
The greens were in the worst condition i have ever seen greens in. For $50 it was a joke. The course was wet and got no roll on my drives even when hitting a nice low draw. Pace of play was terrible as well. 5hr round but it was a 3hr back nine. We had 2 people cancel in our 4some 1hr before the round and the guy at the pro shop was all hot and bothered about it. Cared more about selling those 2 tee times than us having a good experience at the course. All in all i would avoid this course. You can get a better course with friendly staff for less $$$!
It is as nice as any up north course
Not only was the course in excellent condition, but the beauty of the undulated terrain is magnificent. While it had some challenging holes, I found it to be very fair to play for an average player. Some courses feature some very difficult holes for middle- -of-the-road golfers. So this course offers awesome scenery with digestible play.
Nice with some quirks that could be fixed
I've played the course several times. The layout is interesting and actually has some very nice risk/reward holes. Very nice shape, I'd say comparable to nearby Northville Hills in that regard although I think the layout and therefore value of NH is slightly better. But overall fair value for what you're getting. Lots of elevation changes and very nice woodland setting. The big negative is the number of holes that are 'cart path only'. It's an incredible impediment to pace of play, particularly given that the course has some narrowness in multiple areas. I'd say the course plays 30-60 minutes slower than it needs to as a result, which seems like it could and should be addressed by the staff. It is possible that it's a moisture issue, but if so its bad design and they should address the drainage. Limiting the cart path only holes would make this course immeasurably more enjoyable.
Moose Ridge - Wonderful...
This was a wonderful course - we had a 'hot deal' so the rather unfriendly person working told us 'we had no choice but be paired up' - he could've been a bit more friendly. Not many men appreciate being paired up with a woman - thought he would understand that. The course was in great shape.

Ouch. That would be a no go for me.
Disappointed
I was looking forward to trying Moose Ridge. The Golf Now Hot Deal made it affordable. I don't know who would pay the regular green fees to play this course. If you like blind shots this is the course for you. Way too many for me. We played the white tees (thank goodness). I lost 4 balls which was the lowest of the foursome. All were less than 10 yards from the fairway. One was less than 10 feet from the green (another blind shot). Overall condition of course was fine but par 3 tees were atrocious with the number of divots. The greens were quick and severely sloped in some areas. A couple of pin placements were very treacherous especially without knowledge of course.
The higher green fees help pay for the golf cart system. Very sophisticated! Too bad course doesn't measure up to cart system.
Disappointing round for me. I will not return.

I feel that ,the owners/operators of the course would evaluate the reviews of the customers and realize the customer is what keeps the course in business and not the idea that this is a high end course that says, "take it as it is or go somewhere else".

Hello,
We really appreciate you giving us some feedback on your round. I am sorry you didn't see the value in what we normally charge outside of the Hot Deals on GolfNow. Despite running longer intervals to make sure our pace of play is as quick as possible, we still move about 35k golfers through the course each year. This course was originally designed to be fully private and with the close proximity to the nature and vegetation we can't expand our 9 hole tee boxes. Due to the number of golfers and size of the tee boxes on our par 3s they are not always in perfect condition, despite our best efforts.
We market ourselves very openly as a difficult course, with a slope of 130 (down from 138) so if you are not in the fairways it is likely you can lose a ball or two. We do have one blind shot on the course (Number 8). Do you recall which holes you had blind shots on and where you were hitting from?
I am glad you like the in-cart GPS. We pay a premium to have that and we are one of the only courses in metro Detroit that has them.
Perhaps there are some other courses in the area that you would enjoy or find more value in. Our 96.3% recommendation and 4.6 star average review on GolfAdvisor.com are statistics we are very proud of.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss your experience further, please feel free to call the pro shop and ask for the General Manager.
Best Regards,
Moose Ridge Staff
Best GroupGolfer voucher EVER!
GroupGolfer had this course for $35 with a bucket of range balls - and I must say, that is one of the best deals we've ever purchased from GG!
I read all the reviews - stretching from course conditions, pace of play, and difficulty - and a lot of complaints I didn't experience.
My buddy and I went on a Tuesday morning at 9AM - and turns out my buddy "forgot" to make the tee time LOL they accommodated us with no issues (didn't look too busy at the time) and off we went. The first four holes are challenging - but not impossible. We are not the greatest golfers (31 HDCP for me, 25 HDCP for my buddy) and found this course to force you to really think about each and every shot - risk vs. reward.
The course itself was just beautiful and really had an up north type feel. YES, there are a lot of holes that you couldn't leave the cart path - but the carts had GPS so you just had to plan your shot and bring a couple clubs to walk across. I can't really remember any hole that I didn't like, and we really had a great time out there.
Thankfully I didn't land in any bunkers, so I can't review them. The rough and fairways were cut very well, and it wasn't a nightmare swinging out of the long grass.
We never saw another cart behind us until the 17th hole - nor did we have to wait for the group in front of us. Pace of play was perfect for us - and we were keeping pace well too even though we aren't the best. We didn't see a beverage cart, so make sure you stock up.
All in all, we will definitely be back - and I really hope they show up on GroupGolfer again. In my opinion this course is a MUST PLAY for $35! Even though I've been shooting low-mid 100's all season so far - I managed to break 100 with a 98 and also beat my buddy in match play 4&3. Definitely my best round of the season, especially on a 128 slope course.

Moose Ridge
Glad to have come back after several years. Coarse is a great layout and was in really good condition. Only draw back was the slow play.
Great track!
Been awhile since I played here.... Fantastic golf course. Definite Michigan must play golf course. Layout is great and very challenging course. Come check Moose Ridge out. You will not regret it!
Don't play on Mondays I guess...
I was really looking forward to playing here for the first time but I guess I picked the wrong day. I know lots of courses use Monday as a maintenance day, but the greens were very disappointing.
They really over sanded them and it was poorly distributed and even contained large rocks that made it pretty pointless to putt through. No way I felt like it was a fair representation of my score especially when I like to enter all my scores and stats on GAM.
I went in to the pro shop after 9 and asked the pro shop staff what was up with all the sand. He didn't even look me in the eyes and said, "we do it every monday, so does every good course and it's not that bad." I said its actually unputtable in my opinion. And I also play the best courses in the area (mostly UofM, Radrick Farms, Travis Pointe). Really disappointed because it is a beautiful course but the greens and the customer service really made it feel like a waste of time and money.

What hole are your pictures from? The only hole that it looks like is #1. I play there every Thursday and I've never seen their greens in that kind of shape.
Why so slow!?
Only one complaint. Pace of play was slow. Seems like they overbook the course. Other then that, love the course layout. Good challenging course. Very nice condition.
Tough
This is a great course. Really tough, you have to think, can't just grab the driver on every hole, have to think about the second shot.
Very good condition for April
Compared to the other local courses I've played, this course was in the best conditions for April. Very well maintained from tee to green. Pace was slow though at about 5 hours. I thought the slope for white is underrated... it's harder than 120.
Must Play!!
First time out at Moose Ridge and it is absolutely beautiful! Lots of elevation changes and close to nature, it reminded me of some of the best up north courses!! We played from the white tees and glad we did because it is a very challenging course. Most tee shots have a generous landing area but be CAREFUL on approach shots because there is no room behind the greens. On the back nine if you're going to miss, MISS LEFT as everything slopes down to the water. Great finishing hole on 18 and cool clubhouse with deck looking out on 10th tee box and 18th green... Can't wait to get back out when everything is in full bloom!!
A Must Play Course
If you're looking for a course to challenge your game look no further than Moose Ridge. There are many elevation changes that make correct club selection a must. The greens putt and roll very well and they are medium fast with many undulations to test your green reading skills. The carts have GPS for yardage distances and personal rangefinders help you dial in better.
There are 6 holes on the front nine and 3 on the back nine that are always cart path only. This is the reason pace of play can be slow sometimes. Don't let this stop you from playing here.
The food menu is very good for an after round meal. The staff is courteous and pleasant.
We appreciate the feedback and positive comments on the clubhouse and the course conditions. Every-other Monday we do top-dress our greens to keep our greens rolling smooth. If you played early in the morning the sand definitely tends to stick until the sun dries out the morning dew. As for the 9 holes that are cart path only, 4 of them are par 3s and the other 5 holes are set that way for certain reasons including; safety with steep terrain, and course conditioning reasons, High cart traffic areas with clay based soil causes the grass to die. The Golf carts are set up to keep golfers away from tees and greens and other dangerous areas, We are sorry that you didn't have a pleasant experience with the golf carts.
