Used to love playing here.. not anymore...
I used play a lot here but the condition getting worse each time. probably because the course is used as parking lot during Rose Bowl events.
The gree fee are way too high for condition.
Some fairways were missing grass...
Sad to see such a great course in the condition it is.
Typical Brookside
Of course we play after a game weekend. Its a bummer to see a quality course get wrecked because of parking. Like American Golf care more about parking than they do about the course.
The driving range is a field, no targets, just a field. I'm sure AG doesn't care about the golfers as targets are too much to ask to have at a driving range. The course had maintenance guys all over, cutting aprons while we were hitting our approach shots, like zero cares that we were playing. Make shift fire pits by the trees, jacked up fairways from parking.
There was time this course was premier, but as usual, greed and zero contribution to the sport, American Golfs way.
Bad fairways
The fairways on Course 2 were quite bad. Many bare spots, lots of thin weeds in other areas. Good lies were rare. And the gps enabled carts were a hassle. The course is crossed by dirt temporary roads used to park cars during UCLA football games and the cart refused to drive on some of those on holes that were “cart path only”. Total needless pain in the butt. Plus the course is more expensive than other nearby courses. I won’t be back till after football season.
Challenging course with mediocre fairways
I played the north course, #2. It's narrow with lots of trees and smallish greens. Many fairways had bare spots. Might be due to football game traffic--when games are at the Rose Bowl they use the course for parking. Greens were good. Temp green on the par 3 12(?) which for some reason is common.
No senior discount with GolfNow
I was unable to use my senior LA county card because I booked this tee time through GolfNow. It cost me over $20 because I didn't book directly next time I will not book this tee time through golf now. Brookside gets 4 stars GolfNow gets 1 star.
Nice greens/bad fairways
It's been a number of years since I've played Brookside while visiting the Pasadena area, so I figured I'd go back. There are 2 courses, and I played the Nay course.
The greens were in great shape. Not too slow, not too fast, and rolled true. I really liked the greens. Well except for a par 3 on the back where, according to my playing partners, the green has been closed for a few years. The temporary green/hole is ridiculous.
The fairways are a completely different story. Now I'm sure it's difficult to maintain good fairways when they're so frequently used as freaking PARKING LOTS for the Rosebowl, but I didn't remember them being so poor. The fairways were less than ideal, to say the least. Oh, and if you start your round after about 0945, it's possible you may not get to play all the holes, because they start closing holes for freaking PARKING if there is an event upcoming at the Rosebowl. (We went off at 1000, and got to 18 just before 2:00 when they were ready to close the hole. We got to play the hole, but it was close.)
To sum it up, I probably won't play there again, as there are a ton of courses in the LA area.
TRASH covered course
During "event" season, the course is in horrible condition. Greens are cut up and have dead grass lines throughout.
There is literal TRASH bags everywhere on at least 12 holes, They are "collected" in piles on various parts of the fairways. There is BROKEN glass beer bottles on various places as well. I saw a few areas where "event" go-ers lit fires on the course, small 2 feet by 2 feet fire spots. Apparently cars park on the course... absolute garbage of course conditions
It was my first time playing here and will DEFINITELY be my LAST. DO NOT come here and be subjected to a land fill of a course.
If you do want to play here I suggest you play when its NOT "event season"
Slow Play!
Tournament was going on the Friday I played. One of the tournament groups was soo slow we were losing 5 min per hole. Tee time was 10:40, didn’t tee off until 11:00.
We skipped 3 hole because of pace of play and as we were coming up to #17 that slow group had just finished #10. That could have been a 7 hour round! No ambassadors around to enforce pace of play.
