We did not play due to rain. I could not cancel the booking because I forgot my password I love the courses at Brookside. I haven’t played there in about 20 years. I would love to play there again
Flea ‘Market Sunday means 9th Hole is half length
Because the Flea Market was there, the 9th Hole was a Par 3, playing 150, because otherwise there’d be too many balls being sliced or hooked into the Rose Bowl from the proper tees LOL. So make a note of it!
The driving range is too small, especially when they have a ¼ of it blocked off for the Men’s Club event on a Sunday like this, so if you had planned to hit some balls 30 minutes before your tee time, you weren’t able. Too many people waiting in line. And on days like this, they should have limited the buckets per individual walk-ups to a medium or something until it cleared, because there were people hitting a couple large buckets and they weren’t giving up their space, even though they’re not getting ready to play out on the course.
The course is ok, it’s in decent shape considering the football season had just gone through it.
Bunkers though….. why are there two completely different types of sand? It’s spread out, some have one type of the old brown sand and others have the new white. Strange.
POP was just ok, started out slow just after noon, but it picked up on the back and we just barely managed to finish before dark.
Cart path only?
Holes 1,9,10,&18 no reason for cart path only. If you can park cars on them a golf cart won’t hurt them.
Challenging course
Course is narrower than most. Flood channel comes into play on several holes and gobbles balls. Conditions were good and pace was good. Putting greens were better than in the past when they were terrible. Now they are decent.
Don’t go if they have a football game at the Rose Bowl!
We made the mistake of going on a Tuesday before a UCLA vs Colorado game. The football game is Saturday but they had the course blocked off and they Frankensteined the course for a few days. Too bad they didn’t let me know that beforehand. Staff wouldn’t let us go out a little early even though they were open. I shouldn’t have made a tee time. If I walked up I would have been able to go.
Good Conditions Driving Range Closed
E.O. Nay #2 course is in overall good condition despite it being used as a parking lot for Rose Bowl football games.
The hardest aspect of this course is by far the tee boxes. Wobbly and rough, near impossible to find a flat place to hit the ball from the blue tees which makes driving an adventure.
Fairways and rough are green and acceptable providing a good run if your drive lands in the center. Significant dirt patches near free drop parking lot lights and porta-potties.
Learned the driving range was closed when I arrived. Spent 45 min on the putting greens instead which was huge because they are FAST. Loved the greens overall, somewhat hard and a few had plugs with sand but all ran true for a good consistent feel. Well worth the time this is a home course for me.
