Lakeside Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2025.
Located less than an hour from Tampa and Orlando, LakeSide Golf & Country Club in Inverness has a unique and scenic setting with four holes that play around an abandoned phosphate mine. The challenging layout will test you with long par 5s and a slew of doglegs. Unlike some of the flatter, marshier golf courses you'll find throughout Florida, this layout has rolling, wide open fairways and large, undulating greens. Be prepared for more than 50 strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greens in addition to well placed smatterings of tall oaks and pines. The rough can also be very punishing if you're errant. There are some challenging holes but it's not overly daunting; beginners and casual golfers will still enjoy the golf course. There is also a driving range available at LakeSide Golf & Country Club.

DUMP!!!!
It's a cow pasture and should have stayed off golf now. Owner is a goof and the course is horrible
10 Bucks ok
For only 10 bucks, it was all right- didnt expect much, and was right- a lot of burnt greens-condition not very good,
Good course for the money
The greens where in good shape and a little on the slow side but fair. The fairways where a little spotty. Some areas where in good shape but some areas where bare or weedie. The tee box need some work and the course in general needs roughage clean up.Overall I had a fun round of golf.
Hot deal makes it best value around
Got rained out after 9 but the staff was more than accommodating. Course was in good shape for such a discounted price.
Much improved
I have written a couple of reviews (Feb/May) about the course condition. It has improved tremendously since my first visit in Feb. It will probably never get to PGA Tournament condition, but it is a whole lot better than earlier in the year. The Golf Now deals are worth the money, on course traffic isn't an issue after 10 AM, and the improved conditions have me recommending this course for the first time.
Nice Course, needs work
I live near this course, and I like the layout. It has some very difficult holes, and some easy pars. I was able to play on a hot deal through Golfnow for 10.00 + the Golfnow fee, but there was a reason: the greens had just been punched with the large holes. Needless to say the greens were not fabulous, and I was disappointed to see that the sanding job was poorly done. There were as many empty holes as sand filled holes in most of the greens. Proper sanding will allow the greens to come back much more quickly and protect the roots from airborne diseases. Besides the aerating, the greens had many bare spots, some near the pins; the fairways also were spotty and the bunkers were hardpan. Would love to see this course properly taken care of, as it has a great layout and the staff is very friendly. Will continue to play there. It's worth the price, but it could be much, much better.
Fun to play
This is my 3rd time playing this course. I'm 55 and an slightly below player- Shot a 99. Bogeyed most, Playing with New clubs Fairways are wide and clean. Great doglegs that make you play the drive accurately. Watered the course during the day. Left some greens with excessive water to play through. But well manicured. Staff was excellent with the exception of pick-up trucks distracting the players. Great lunch menu also.
Great layout in terrible condition
This is a golfcourse with great potention. Wonderfull layout. Challenging. Why is this course is such a terrible condition????
Teeboxes with no grass. Greens (or browns?) with barely grass. Overall condition verry poor. I love this golfcourse, but not in this condition.
Pasture Play II
Played the course back in Feb and wrote a review in which I said I would wait until the course improved. I waited over 2 months, but conditions were worse. No maintenance being done anywhere (saw one guy trimming tree branches, so they have at least one maintenance staff). Too bad, because the course has some extremely challenging holes that would be fun to play. This place needs an owner that cares, and is willing to spend the $$ to bring people in.
lake side
Greens were thin, fast, inconsistent. Fairways were spotty
Nice layout worth the drive
While the condition of the course is not exceptional, it is a nice layout with some very Interesting holes. It is worth the money and worth the drive.
Pasture Play
First time playing here. Lots of blind shots, elevation changes and the Greens were very smooth and true. However, the Tee Boxes were a complete mess (standing weeds, bare dirt patches with unfilled divots, and very uneven) and most parts of every Fairway was like playing in a cow pasture. Bare spots that were hard dirt patches, tall weeds and clumps of different grass made hitting an Iron very dicey. The layout was quite unique, and I look forward to another day there, but I will wait until the course looks and feels like a golf course and not a cow pasture.
New Adventure
This course was in relatively poor condition but possibly due to the conversion from winter grasses to summer grasses. The greens were relatively nice but the fairways were in "tough" shape. Some of the holes were difficult to navigate for a first-time player so we just followed the worn grass paths. The course needs a lot of work to make it worth the value. Too many tricked-up holes.
Lake View
I was very impressed with this course and it has made it to my "Favorites List". After reading the previous reviews, I was a bit hesitant to play, but I am so glad I did. The greens were in very good to excellent conditions, rolled fast, held great and a joy to putt on. One person wrote that the fairways were so bad they painted them green in spots. Well, that green tint on the areas "painted", was fertilizer. Compared with the majority of courses I've played in the area, Lake View has some of the best fairways to hit from. The whole region has been hit with a very dry fall and winter, so the majority of the courses will have burnt fairways. Played with a local named Bob, retired USAF, made his own clubs and was a hoot to play with and full of great "local knowledge". Thanx Bob, . I'll definitely be back!
Really POOR condition
Fairways are in poor condition, no grass just dirt. Some tee boxes are in OK condition, some are really bad. Greens are fast and in good shape. I would not play it again until the conditions improve.
Not worth it
My wife & I were disappointed in this course. While it has WIDE open fairways - they were terribly burnt out. They were so bad they had been painted green. The tee boxes were terribly chewed up, but the greens were OK. There were few blind tee shots, but with the fairways so wide open it didn't hurt much. The layout was mundane with only 2 holes challenging (#4 and #15). The pace of play was good, as there few golfers on the course on noon on a Tuesday. Overall there are lot better courses nearby that are worth playing.
Lakeside January 2016
This is a nice course but has quite a few challenging holes. It was in fair shape. The greens were good but quite a few holes had pretty rough fairways. We played it for 12 dollars so it was definitely worth the money. I've played it a few times and feel it's definitely worth trying if you've not played it. Overall, it's a good value.
Old nice course
Older course but a nice layout a few very nice holes
This course has some challenging holes
Fun course to play, some very challenging holes. Course is in very good shape
