Lakeside Golf Course
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2025.
Located less than an hour from Tampa and Orlando, LakeSide Golf & Country Club in Inverness has a unique and scenic setting with four holes that play around an abandoned phosphate mine. The challenging layout will test you with long par 5s and a slew of doglegs. Unlike some of the flatter, marshier golf courses you'll find throughout Florida, this layout has rolling, wide open fairways and large, undulating greens. Be prepared for more than 50 strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greens in addition to well placed smatterings of tall oaks and pines. The rough can also be very punishing if you're errant. There are some challenging holes but it's not overly daunting; beginners and casual golfers will still enjoy the golf course. There is also a driving range available at LakeSide Golf & Country Club.

Great golf
Great course for the money.. good greens soft and good speed..a couple of challenging holes but plays great for a higher handicap
Dissapointing ...
I have played this course for many years, so I have seen this course in very good condition and very poor condition. This course is lacking serious maintenace. The greens have always been in top condition, but not this time. In all fairness I can see the greens recover in a few weeks. (aeration and cut) The fairways are poor, only the fairways on hole 1, 10, 11 and 18 are in good condition. All tee boxes are in poor condition. Bar / restaurant is closed for the summer, so you can not get any drinks or food. Green fee was cheap, therefore I can justify the "value for money". Very sorry to report this, but my assessment is pretty accurate.
conditions
greens had been aerated but were not too bad, but the tee boxes were unmowed and looked like rough. the course has some interesting and challenging holes, we played from the white tees at 6100 yards.
Greens mostly good
Played after 2 days of rain, course drained really well, no standing water anywhere. Greens were spotty near some of the edges but the interiors were good and rolled true. Tee boxes were not cut and were a little high. Many of the par 4's are dog legs so the course is fun to play. Would play again for the Golfnow price-if I had to pay the normal price I would go elsewhere.
Not what I expected
I played here about one year ago and the course seemed a lot better then the shape it's in now
Poor condition
This course was in pretty rough shape. We almost got hit by a ball from the golfer behind us while waiting on the group ahead of us. It's a pretty open course.
Another good day at the golf course
Enjoyed the round of golf teamed up with another couple for back nine
Played several times. Would recommend
Great dog legs and acenic. Long and challenging but user friendly course and friendly staff. Will play again when available. Little water on course
Golfnow at Lakeside - NO
We knew the course ect from several rounds in previous years.
This time we were booked thru Golfnow, which was not good at Lakeside.
It was a cold day, nobody on hole1, nobody waiting.
When asking if we could go out the answer was NO. We were Golfnow players and had to wait to the scheduled time.
Nobody on the course, we asked several times, but NO.
After 20 min we could go to tee 1.
Discrimation of Golfnow greenfeeguests - last round at Lakeside !
Not a country club
I have played this course many times over the years. They want to tell you this is a country club but it is not.I think they like to think that way because of the lovely homes and town homes surrounding the course. They are concentrating too much on there rentals where I am sure the money is BUT the golf course needs a lot of care and maintenance. If I rented on this golf course I want a good golf course because the rentals are very expensive for what you get on a golf vacation. Nice restaurant, nice accommodations, nice staff but poor golf course.Oh by the way my tee off time was 10:30 and we got there and where ready by 10:00 but they would not let us on until 10:30 even though no one was on the tee for the whole 30 minutes before.

Good value
The course was in overall good condition but the greens were excellent. Soft yet quick. A very nice course for seniors and mid to high handicappers.
Don't do early start on Fridays
Had 7:30 tee time, they have a group of guys on Fridays that have to go out in front of everybody no matter what time your tee time is. That does not seem fair to me . Made us wait till they played through , they started on 16, two foursomes
Pace of play could not be beat - Thursday mid-day
Old school layout with a couple holes that were more than challenging. Greens looked good and played OK but soft and sponge. No big deal but hey its golf and the price was right.
OK for the money
Pro Shop attendant was SUPER friendly and helpful. Course was rough around the edges but for what we paid it was an OK deal. Most greens were VERY slow but in OK condition. A couple greens were in rough shape. Excellent pace of play - we were done in under 4 hours.
Great shape but for one or two back side greens. Great for the price. No one on the course!
Great round. We had fun while the course was in great shape. Super soft greens from the rain. (A little slow)
Maybe a 9 or 10
great layout some very interesting holes
course is very challenging, but leaves you with plenty of holes where you can let out the shaft. 4-5 greens have some kind of spotty fungus damage to them, but the overall course is in great shape. It's one of my favorite course's in citrus county.
starter needs training/ ranger needed on course
Starter didn't honor our tee time as preferential treatment was given to a group of regulars that were extremely slow, had as much as 2 1/2 holes open between them (when on #11 the first of 3 4somes was on 18), and no one was allowed out until they passed #1 (They start near 16 and come around which holds the whole course hostage) I play there often but this was outrageous and no effort was made to get those old guys to at least close up the gaps btween them or let others out, maybe on the back.
Lovely wide open fairways
A great course with some really unusual features especially the 15th hole! One of the most interesting courses in our area.
A real bonus is the excellent restaurant attached to the course.
Much Improved
course suffered over the summer but has come back tremendously. Little bit more and will be excellent.
