Lake Wales Country Club
About
Lake Wales Country Club boasts a classic Donald Ross design that players of all skill level will enjoy. Built in the 1920s, the golf course has a different look and feel than most modern courses. Rather than exaggerated hazards and dramatic contouring, the layout blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. The routing of each hole was determined by the existing contours. Like many of Ross' designs, the phrase "hard par, easy bogey" holds true here. The layout features small greens with crown centers that are sloped back to front. Rough borders the fairways and the wide-openness of the course means that wind will often be a factor. Lake Wales C.C. is a challenging but straightforward golf course. There are no trick holes but there are several holes that will make you think.

Good Pace of play and nice greens
We hadn’t played this course in a while and after reading the reviews on Golf Now decided to give it another try. We really enjoyed our round as the course was not crowded and the pace of play was good. The greens were in nice shape but the rest of course could use some work. The staff was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Overall enjoyed our time and would go back to play again.
Had a Great Timeline
We used the “Golf Now” app to reserve and pay for 9 holes for a party of 4. Everything went smooth and flawless from the time we did the reservation until golf cart turn in. Would definitely go back.

First time playing this course and I was pleasantly surprised .
The young lady in the pro shop greeted us with a pleasant smile. She was very sweet and nice showing us around and ready to go The. fairways and rough were a little dry as are most courses right now but certainly playable. Some Tee boxes were being repaired and a little dry but all were LEVEL and no problem for my buddy and I. The GREENS are most important to us and we had lots of sweet birdie and eagle puts and no complaints about TRUE roll. They roll right where you hit them! The GREENS were EXCELLENT and I will certainly return and play here again. Thank you Lake Wales for your excellent hospitality!
Disappointed
The greens were great. The fairways and tee boxes were very disappointing. They really let this place go. Had to contend with sprinklers on 3 of the last four greens. Who does that?
Good course
The greens are in excellent shape. Fairways and rough are in good shape. Tee boxes are in bad shape.
Read a review from two weeks ago, and almost didn’t play the course. The course is in good shape. I’m glad I played it. Fun course with a good layout. Lots of bunkers. Will definitely be playing again.
Obviously undetfundef
Remove countryclub from the name. Greens are ok. I spoke with resident during the round who said they had over seeded and hot weather hit and not enough water. I went into the clubhouse after the round to return a small cooler not complaining but made a comment about maybe the overseedind and unexpected weather and she became very defensive saying that good golfers like tight fairways and you are teeing up on the tee boxes anyway. And people will complain the rough is too high a a few months. Your facilities are still run down and the homeowner that I spoke to says the restaurant is rarely open. Be open minded and get an investor and make what it can be and quit being defensive. I was told that she is part of the family of owners. Again I may play again at some point but it will through golf now if it is cheap.
Regular, well playable course with no special challenges
Played as twosome and the pace was very good – 3 ¼ hours. Tee boxes and fairways need some attention. Bunkers were not in play today. Greens are really very nice, though a little slow, but true. Staff at the pro shop very cordial, but golf gloves are really very expensive - $25 for one is rather upper level!
Overall it is a good place to go, but you can find courses in the surrounding for lower rates…
Enjoyable round
Nice course with lots of variety. Played mid March 2020. Course was in good condition. Greens were in lovely condition. Worth playing. Long drive from Kissimmee area, but worth the drive. Recommend this course. Would play again next time.
Great for average golfer
The highlight of Lake Wales are the greens. Large and undulating, they are kept to a reasonable speed for playability. They are in excellent condition. The fairways are wide and in very good condition. The rough is sparse, but with generous fairways the rough doesn’t come into play much. No water hazards to speak of. Retention ponds are well away from the line of play. A great opportunity to add a Donald Ross course to your life list.
A Hidden Donald Ross Gem
Course was fine shape. Greens, while the looked a bit brown, were semi-fast and very true. Great hands-on owner . Has a old classic Florida feel. Reasonably priced.
Greens
Arrived at pro shop. pro comments the greens crew have dusted the greens as they were worried of wind burn damage.
It did not alter our game the greens were medium to fast with lots of undulation.
Very enjoyable course
Hadn't played Lake Wales CC in a few years & was very pleasantly surprised. The gentleman who checked us in could not have been better - made us feel genuinely welcome & shared all needed info. Didn't dine so can't comment on that, but the clubhouse is impressive - old-style Spanish Florida charm carries through the entire community of beautiful homes. The clubhouse is clean and offers a nice complimentary water station and range balls. There are tee choices to please everyone. The course itself is in very good condition. Though I can't say it's a pristine course such as the high-dollar tracks, it's definitely at the top of the "average" courses. Aside from some tough par threes, the course layout isn't particularly challenging, but it's definitely enjoyable. Pace of play was fine. All in all, it was a very good day. Lake Wales is a hidden gem that I plan on adding to my list of go-to spots.
A neglected beauty
As an architect (Buildings) playing the course was like walking through one of Frank Lloyd Wright's homes that was being used as a rooming house. :-(
I played the course hoping that as a Donald Ross beauty it may have been a real jewel. Credit due, the fairways and greens were in good to great shape, but the tee boxes, rough, sand traps and surrounding areas looked like they'd been ridden hard and put away wet!
I know its tough to keep Florida courses maintained, so please don't get me wrong, this is a great track, I was just a little disappointed in the upkeep.
Condition
The golf course was in excellent condition. tees, fairways lots of good grass, no bare spots, greens were great medium to fast speed and were true.
The only thing we encountered was that it was just after 4.00 pm and the cook had gone home, we like to have a meal and a few drinks after playing golf.
Yes I will recommend this course to my friends.
Great course
First time playing the course and was very pleasantly surprised. Nice wide course with great aesthetics. Will definitely play again. The only fault I could find was that the holes could be better marked or identified. I didn’t see a course map when paying and the score card had no map or picture of the holes. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
