About
Lake Wales Country Club boasts a classic Donald Ross design that players of all skill level will enjoy. Built in the 1920s, the golf course has a different look and feel than most modern courses. Rather than exaggerated hazards and dramatic contouring, the layout blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. The routing of each hole was determined by the existing contours. Like many of Ross' designs, the phrase "hard par, easy bogey" holds true here. The layout features small greens with crown centers that are sloped back to front. Rough borders the fairways and the wide-openness of the course means that wind will often be a factor. Lake Wales C.C. is a challenging but straightforward golf course. There are no trick holes but there are several holes that will make you think.

Golfer Reviews
Condition
The golf course was in excellent condition. tees, fairways lots of good grass, no bare spots, greens were great medium to fast speed and were true.
The only thing we encountered was that it was just after 4.00 pm and the cook had gone home, we like to have a meal and a few drinks after playing golf.
Yes I will recommend this course to my friends.
Great course
First time playing the course and was very pleasantly surprised. Nice wide course with great aesthetics. Will definitely play again. The only fault I could find was that the holes could be better marked or identified. I didn’t see a course map when paying and the score card had no map or picture of the holes. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Nice mature layout
Nice mature layout. Not a lot of trouble, fairly wide open.
Ter box, fairways and greens. In good shape. Rough and some bunkers need some TLC.
Excellent layout
Course in excellent shape very green fairways and putting surface enjoyed playing would recommend to anyone great value
Nice place
It’s a nice old school muni type layout. The greens are in great shape. They rolled very smooth, a little slow but overall the course was great, the staff is friendly and pace of play was very quick. It’s worth giving it a go. Make your birdies early because the back is much longer than the front
Donald Ross Gem off the beaten path
Off the beaten path, halfway between Tampa and Jupiter, is this old school Donald Ross gem.
No water, just beautiful greens, strategically placed fairway bunkers, old Florida willow trees, and a step back in time.
Great staff, cheeseburger was top shelf melt in your mouth with killer onion rings. Worth the the 90 minute drive from either coast.
Very nice from tee to green
Played this course a few times over the last few years. This year I was pleasantly surprised with its overall condition. Very good condition for my dollars spent I played early mornings so no issue with pace of play but in all fairness I don’t know about later tee times. We had absolutely no issues teeing off as early as we wanted. No issues, when on course, being to fast for maintenance crews , which sometimes can be our own fault Depending on your budget, if you play here this winter season you will be pleased. Wide open course. You will find your ball
Great course
Not too difficult. Not a lot of trouble. In great shape.
Lake Wales Country Club
This was a very nice day playing golf. The staff person was very helpful. Free range balls and excellent green condition
Sloooow greens
The rough has very little grass, mostly sand and weeds. Fairways are in good shape. Greens were slow and had some weeds in them.
Enjoyable round
Fun course,, friendly staff, equals
an enjoyable round of golf!
Issue with golf now
With good ratings why am I not recommending this course? If you book a round through Golf Now the woman on reception will not tell you about any relevant course conditions such as course maintenance, overseeding or sprinkler operations. 2 weeks ago our foursome got soaked when the sprinklers suddenly came on. Yesterday on mentioning this to reception I was told that had we booked our round directly with Lake Wales we would have been told about sprinkler operations but not as we had booked through Gol Now. Welcome to Lake Wales country club!!!
Nice Layout
Course has a nice Layout but not in very good shape, Staff in pro shop was extremely friendly.
Ok course
Book d a tee time for 1252pm single. Nice staff, just water and ice. Range was a 3. Terrible balls and not much grass.
Course is ok shape. Very slow greens. Overall ok.
But, on the back 9 the sprinklers came on on the last 5 holes at 3pm! Who does that? I was finished after 14. Mentioned to pro shop and was told I should have called. She said they over seeded and it was hot. What about the paying customers? I won’t go back. Too. Ad it’s all around ok. Nothing great but matched the price.
I guess they needed the money!
Overseeding
Greens had been over seeded with rye which made them impossibly slow and too long to putt from fringe. Other than that course was good except #8 fairway torn up.
