Lake Wales Country Club
About
Lake Wales Country Club boasts a classic Donald Ross design that players of all skill level will enjoy. Built in the 1920s, the golf course has a different look and feel than most modern courses. Rather than exaggerated hazards and dramatic contouring, the layout blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. The routing of each hole was determined by the existing contours. Like many of Ross' designs, the phrase "hard par, easy bogey" holds true here. The layout features small greens with crown centers that are sloped back to front. Rough borders the fairways and the wide-openness of the course means that wind will often be a factor. Lake Wales C.C. is a challenging but straightforward golf course. There are no trick holes but there are several holes that will make you think.

You get what you pay for
Don’t expect to play perfectly manicured fairways and greens for $25. It is exactly what you would expect for what you pay. I like the layout and play here when I want to get in 18 and not break the bank. They recently over-seeded so the fairways were super green. Would have been nice if they were mowed. At least this time around the rough was cut so you could find your ball if you missed the fairway by a foot. Tee boxes are always challenging. Got to search for a spot to set your ball that the grass isn’t taller then your tee. Would have been nice if they pulled the crab grass on the greens while they were closed. With the right management this could be a class A facility. Alas as it sits it’s a $25 course.
Poor playing conditions
Unfortunately the course was in bad shape due to the recent storms
Neglected
Hadn’t played the course for a year. Was shocked at the condition it was in. Very neglected. Dry, brown, spotty greens. I’ll pass on this course until improvements are made.
Used to be good
By far the worst condition I have ever seen this course in. As said in other recent reviews the course has not been maintained and the fairways have overgrown grass all over the place. Many times losing your ball even when you hit it straight on the fairway. I hate that is has gotten to this state bc the course layout is nice and when kept up it is a good course to play at. Hopefully things turn around and it gets the maintenance that it needs and deserves. Will not be going back to this course until I see it in better condition.
DONT GO!!!
I have played this course on and off for many, many years, and it is one of my favorite layouts of any courses around. Sometimes it is in fair condition, sometimes not so much. I have to say that it was by far in the worst condition it has ever been in. This is no exaggeration when I say that there is no way that it has been mowed (except maybe the greens) in 5 or 6 weeks. The greens are so slow, they are cut to the height of the fair ways. The bunkers have not been raked at all this year and are overgrown with weeds. Many time in this round I got y ball in the fairway and could not find it. But on the positive side I found others golfers ball’s that they lost in the fairway…lol.
I took pictures but cannot upload them.
Final visit to Lake Wales Country Club
Played LWCC Thursday September 19th. Never had such a miserable experience at a golf course before. The employees warned me about the course condition.. They were being kind to the courses. No fairways to be seen. 10 inch high weeds, huge bare spots. The greens weren't much better with large bare spots and weeds used as covering. The rough was worse than the fairways and greens.
Maybe I should of felt that this was coming as the entryway to the clubhouse had 12" weeds all along the sidewalk and driveway.
Extremely bad as I thought my last visit in December 2021 was as bad as could be for a so called Country Club to still be open.
Disappointing course conditions
Played here last 2 years on vacation and loved it and was great value for the money
So was terribly disappointed with the deteriorated conditions of the course
Let’s hope it can be brought back to the condition the layout deserves
Not good
Honestly in the worst shape I have ever seen any golf course … ever . Literally the fairways are like bunkers … like you land it in the middle of the fairway and it splashes and doesn’t roll. It honestly looks like the course owners don’t own any lawn mowers or weed wackers. It’s actually insane . Should have taken some pictures but didn’t want those on my phone . Anyway the pace of play is great! (Because nobody wants to play this course). The restarant isn’t open . People have drove golf carts all over the tee boxes (not like it matters they are a jungle.) anyway this my first time golfing in about a year and if you gotta pay $25 to play a course in this condition , you might as well stay home. Thank you for coming to my ted talk. (Also I’m going to celebration next because when I was younger it was the nicest course I ever played on and I need to get the images of all those weeds and losing your ball in the fairway rough and sand out of my head . )
Courses in the worst condition that I’ve ever seen it
I understand the course was sold so it was in the worst condition that I’ve ever seen it not even worth a $20 hot fee
