Lake Wales Country Club
About
Lake Wales Country Club boasts a classic Donald Ross design that players of all skill level will enjoy. Built in the 1920s, the golf course has a different look and feel than most modern courses. Rather than exaggerated hazards and dramatic contouring, the layout blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. The routing of each hole was determined by the existing contours. Like many of Ross' designs, the phrase "hard par, easy bogey" holds true here. The layout features small greens with crown centers that are sloped back to front. Rough borders the fairways and the wide-openness of the course means that wind will often be a factor. Lake Wales C.C. is a challenging but straightforward golf course. There are no trick holes but there are several holes that will make you think.

Rain trees AWSOME! Photo submitted by recon68 on 10/05/2014
Bathrooms and water fountain had no water, restaurant was closed, sand traps were dirt, fairways were patchy, range balls everywhere in the middle of the fairways.
Fair price good course
Nice n wide, needs TLC , needs some rain ,good time good course.
I want my $$ back
This course is a disaster. Fairways and tee boxes are all weeds. The patches that aren't - are just dirt. Back nine had more crumpled beer cans than golf balls in the shrubs. Cart paths and ground were so rough I hurt my neck and had to quit after 12 holes. If it could be broken on this course - it was. No drinking water on the course on a hot Summer day. No GPS on gas carts. Some type of construction going on next to several holes. Kids running around hitting three shots at a time. Shame was the starter/pro shop guy was very nice. And greens were decent.
I want my $$ back
This course is a disaster. It is completely overgrown with weeds. There is little difference between fairways and rough. Back nine had more crushed beer cans in the shrubs than lost golf balls. I quit after 11 holes because the ground was so bumpy I hurt my neck. Carts were gas and had no GPS. No water on a Florida course during Summer. Tee boxes a mess. Bunkers full of rocks and crabgrass. Greens were decent and the pro shop/starter was very nice.
Enjoyable Course
The play field was as expected without the rains to green up the course. The putting greens were very good and rolled nicely. We rolled our balls in the fairways to get relief from dry spots. I will play the course again once the summer rains green it up.
Fairways need work
Greens were perfect. Sand traps were OK. Tea boxes were OK but the fairways need work.
Fairways need work
Green were in perfect condition. Sand traps were OK at least four fairways need serious work as far as rutsand grass overall, I enjoyed the course I would recommend it.
Getting Better...
This course has made some progress since I last played here nearly a year ago. Fairways are still thin in places but, the greens are in good shape. Very little water in the line of play. Most tee shots are open, but being on the correct side of the fairway when approaching the greens is important. Greenside bunkers are deep and a thin shot is either still in the bunker, or across the green it a different bunker. Bring your best sand game if you want to save that "easy bogey".
The same threesome and foursome tee off between 730am and 8 am and are slow players and won’t let anyone play thru
Greens need work
The only reason I would recommend this course is the price to play it. It was OK for the $46. to play but the greens need work for sure. Layout was good but clubhouse was closed for a bite or pint at 3 in the afternoon.
Nice layout
Playable. Greens are very good. Fairways are thin. Sand traps have not been raked in awhile and need work. Nothing is so terrible that more work wouldn't fix.
Needs help!
Lake Wales is one of many examples in Central Florida of nice courses that are simply run down. Staff here is great but course is very tired and worn. Weeds line tee boxes and bunkers. Not much grass in fairways and aprons approaching greens. Greens are in decent shape. You can see that this could be a much nicer course with some money spent on it. This is what you get for under $50 dollars. Pace of play can be slow. Limited stagg so no ranger.
