About
Lake Wales Country Club boasts a classic Donald Ross design that players of all skill level will enjoy. Built in the 1920s, the golf course has a different look and feel than most modern courses. Rather than exaggerated hazards and dramatic contouring, the layout blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. The routing of each hole was determined by the existing contours. Like many of Ross' designs, the phrase "hard par, easy bogey" holds true here. The layout features small greens with crown centers that are sloped back to front. Rough borders the fairways and the wide-openness of the course means that wind will often be a factor. Lake Wales C.C. is a challenging but straightforward golf course. There are no trick holes but there are several holes that will make you think.

Good layout, poor shape
This course had a nice layout, but the conditions were marginal at best. Lots of bare spots and even weeds in the fairways, lots of poa and other contaminants on the greens. Disappointing, but just needs work.

Fairways need a lot of work and the Greens are really good they run fast!!!
Bad first impression
Was my first time playing course. Was not told they do not offer rain checks. Lighting was close in area so stopped after nine. Would have been nice if they told me they do not offer rain checks. Was sunny when I stated playing.
Good fun locally
Fun course with great challenges. Easy to recover from bad shots. Good pace of play. Quiet and relaxing course with asthetics that put you into a different environment and themes that’s transport you to different course around the country.
Needs work
For a Course to have the words "country Club" in their name you would think the course would be in "country club" condition. This course is far from that. The tee boxes were over grown and had a lot of unevenness. Numerous times I had to retee my ball because when I addressed the ball my feet were in a hole. The rough was nothing but weeds and clover. The sand bunkers were ok. The sand was inconsistent from hole to hole. The greens were ok but speeds varied from green to green. I was a single following 3 twosomes and it still took 4 hours to play. No rangers. This course could really use some work in order to keep the words "Country Club" in their name.
Nice place
Fast greens, all around good shape. Nice layout and pretty open.
Good bargain with golf now.
Needs work
Course layout definitely has potential, but obviously not a lot of money being put back into it. Greens were good but rest, of course was lacking in grass considerably.
At least the greens weren’t too bad
Thank goodness that the greens are puttable, there are some bad spots, but for 16 out of the 18 holes I was able to put across descent grass.
The fairways and tee boxes are a completely different story. It is a shame that when you hit a drive in the middle of the fairway there is not grass and you have to move your back 10+ yards to find a crappy lie. There were holes that I chose to move my ball from the fairway to the rough to get a decent lie.
The bunkers looked like they had not been raked in weeks. It also looked like only the fairways are getting mowed.
I love the design of this course and wish it was maintained better, but $50 during the week to play a course in such overall bad condition is not acceptable!!!
Greens were in very good condition.
Overall appearance of this club is very sad and run down. Sorry to see it. Must have been very nice in its day, but now it looks as if it's been "rode hard and put up wet".
Good layout
The course was not in great shape. Took a chance for $30. Gas cart quit on the 18th fairway after running rough the entire round.

after years of not caring they seem to have budget again to keep the course decent...nice to see and a pleasure to play
