Timacuan Golf Club

About
Nestled in the gently rolling hills of Lake Mary Timacuan is a Ron Garl designed course. The front nine is reminiscent of a Scottish links-style course, with wide open fairways, rolling hills and deep bunkers. Watch the wind and keep it low!
Waste bunkers garnish the back and water comes into play on several holes. In a poll, GolfWeek Magazine ranked Timacuan the 14th best course in the state. Bobby Weed renovated the course in 1996. The course is located just 15 minutes from downtown Orlando and winds through beautiful lakes and wooded areas.
Hole No. 2 is rated as "most challenging in Central Florida"

Horrible condition
It had been a few years since I played Timacuan. I was very disappointed with the condition of the course. The greens were decent but the fairways and tee boxes were horrible. I would not return to play there until it is turned around.
Don’t waste your money!
Let me begin by saying that I have played this course for over three years. I have not played the course in over a year. The staff is very friendly. We started off on the back nine which is fine and it was immediately apparent that the course conditions have deteriorated. Multiple tee boxes along with fairways there was no grass to hit off of, the greens had been punched recently which that was no big deal but many of the greens need serious help to restore them back to what I would call a golf course green. Some of the sand traps were nothing but mud, now I will give them credit that we have had rain, however nobody had been in there to rake them or even make it look like a sand trap. The only positive that I can give this course was I was paired up with a nice couple. I have heard that Timucuan is going private, if this happens I hope they sync a lot of money into their golf course to get it back to the way it used to be, the course layout makes for a great round of golf but the course conditions wanted me to leave and never return.
Needs TLC
Course not up to standards of the past, may be reason why ownership bringing in outside firm to manage operations. Greens are good for most part, some fairways and tee boxes are in rough shape. Range ball machine is constantly out of service and overall maintenance of common areas is mediocre. Still OK to play but only at discounted price. Hope they get it back to what it used to be
Awesome course
Always liked this course.
Beautiful layout and elevation changes.
Forced carry holes!
Interesting and enjoyable layout.. Lots of water hazards, but not unplayable. If you make mistakes be sure you bring plenty of balls. I heard that the course is going private in 2 weeks?!? Too bad. It was starting to look much better than the sandy fairways and beat up tee boxes in the recent past.
Good Value
Greens were excellent. Some fairways were in rough shape, and the tee boxes could use some TLC. Overall, good value for this course. Pace of play was good and clubhouse staff were extremely friendly. Great food and service in the clubhouse before and after the round. Will play again.
Avoid at all cost
I hate leaving a bad review for a place. This is not $54 golf. And no heads up front the clubhouse about the shape either. I'm not sure if ownership or management has changed recently. It honestly looks like a course ready to shut down.
You can't enter the clubhouse bar because the door won't open. The canopy of the first cart we grabbed was ready to come off. Grabbed another one, same thing, and noisy.
The greens are the best part. Though 5 out of 18 have sandy patches. Overall where there's greens, really nice
Tee boxes are horrendous. You're better off stepping into the 2nd cut and teeing off from there.
15 out of 18 fairways are beyond patchy. Where there's fairway, there's usually small grass stumps. The rest is bare sand or dirt. The 2nd cuts way under maintained.
You could find 20 other courses in Central FL that are leagues above the conditions of this course. Don't take my word for it, look at the pics. I've played it when it's in good shape. I hope they're able to bring that back .
Timacuan Golf Course is NOT the place to play right now
Not sure what is going on at this course. Club house was mostly empty of merchandise. They did not have any balls in stock either and claimed that they cannot get any right now. This used to be such a nice course but something terrible is happening here now.
GPS has been removed from the carts, tee boxes, fairways, greens all in terrible condition. Frankly, it looks like it has been sold or the current owners have given up on it.
Really this is too bad as this course was always good, not great but now it's terrible.
difficult for me
I have not played this course in a couple of years... distance, tolls and travel time for me are issues...also I am not really good enough to play a round this difficult..usually shoot in mid 90's...here a 105....water everywhere, probably have to carry it 4-6 times...really long distances to greens, which were in good shape...if you have mobility problems it is quite a walk, up hill, from the parking lot to the proshop and cart return after...if you like a tough course I would recommend it...if you have limited distance in your game, probably not for you
Grass is making a comeback
100% improvement since about 3 weeks ago. Last time playing here felt like a sandbox. Maybe due to the afternoon rains, but the fairways had a more adequate grass cover. Love the layout. Tee boxes still a bit of a mess, plus some greens had bare spots, but it was quite playable. I'm only playing when there is a Hot Deal, as I wouldn't pay full price just yet.
Timacuan Needs Attention
The course is in rough shape and in some cases neglected. Such a beautiful course where even holes have not been changed in days, fairways dried out and greens bumpy and slow.
Improving but not there yet
The course is undergoing some improvements now that sprinkler system has bee repaired/upgraded. Having played the course a few months ago and it was in very rough shape at that time, yesterday showed vast improvement in most fairways. Tee boxes were still quite bare, but the greens were in very good shape. Give it another few months with continued care and upkeep, this course can once again become the pristine, lush course it once was.
Layout is nice .... but
.... tees and greens need work. No scorecard, no starter.
You’d have to pay me to play here
I’ll never play Timacuan again. The last time I went(about a year ago), it sucked, I thought hey maybe they fixed it up a bit, nope it got significantly worse. Don’t try to hit in the middle of the fairway, there isn’t any grass. Don’t putt either, if you make it onto the green just give yourself a gimmie, it’s like putting on a beach. The gps on the golf cart didn’t work and the roof was holding on by a thread, any time we hit a slight bump I was worried my buddy and I were going to get decapitated. The best thing about this place is that there’s a Publix right outside of the neighborhood. I made sure I grabbed a pub sub before we golfed, unfortunately enough, I guess there was a nest of roaches living in the golf cart, because I was about halfway done with my sub I put it in the storage compartment of the golf cart to go putt real quick and I came back and there were 2 roaches going to town on my sub. Do yourself a favor, don’t bother with this course, I wouldn’t come back here if it was $10 for 18 holes and a free 6 pack of beer.
Very rough course
First and last time playing this course. Course is BEAT up, don’t have to land in a sand trap to hit a bunker shot. Fairways are brutal. Better off hitting it into the rough, at least you will be hitting from grass. If I didn’t judge a book by it’s cover and book this course just because pictures I saw that were probably taken years ago, I wouldn’t of played here
Timacuan is surviving on its name, sadly in bad shape
This is a well known golf course in the area. I have to say it is surviving on its name, the course is in bad shape. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are in poor condition almost every where in the course.
I suggest you stay away from this course for at least 6 months. Hopefully its management team will bring it back to a good condition.
