Plantation Palms Golf Club
About
Plantation Palms Golf Club, designed by David Harman, provides every Tampa golfer with a challenging and rewarding golf experience. The links-style design starts with a welcoming par 5, and then slowly steps up with a mixture of strong par 3s. Just 10 minutes north of Tampa, this course was carved a 400-acre citrus grove that slopes from west to east, providing interesting elevation changes. Water is in play on 17 of 18 holes. Plantation Palms Golf Club has an attractive framing of greens by the use of pine trees, water and large snow-white sand traps. The true-rolling elevated greens have good movement and are a challenge for golfers.

worn out
Large white sand - more like no sand. Good layout but the course seems worn down. I expected more for a 139 slope
Palms Play
-Teeing area of driving range really needs work but they installed new distance markers
-Chipping/putting area small and only 4 holes to putt to
-Been very wet lately so this taken into consideration
-Would like to see distance stripes to pin painted on cart path
-They removed 150 white yard stakes and it's hard to see in-ground color markers
-Alot of work completed on improving condition of bunkers but a few left to go.
-Mulligans restaurant on site is very good
Driving range unavailable before 9:30am?
Round started off poorly as we got there early to warm up on the driving range. We were unable to do so because apparently the driving range doesn’t open until 9:30, and they wouldn’t allow us to go on because the grass was still being cut. Not sure why they would wait until Saturday morning during prime time to maintain the range at their patron’s expense.
Course drains very poorly and it was a very muddy round despite clear skies. Fairways are average, roughs were at least ankle high in most places. Only positive was the greens were in fairly good shape and rolled true.
Holes 9 and 18 are very poorly overlapped and if you didn’t know better you might end up playing the 9th green twice by mistake.
Also hole 16 or 17 is totally under construction leaving you to basically putt over rough grass into a 6 inch diameter hole.
Finally, pace of play was abysmal. Teed off at 8:45 and didn’t wrap up until almost 2pm. Waited for 5-10 minutes at each tee box.
Greatly improved conditions
This course continues to improve with each visit. I'm glad to see this rejuvenation of the conditions since it is a very enjoyable layout. Unfortunately, our round was cut short by a severe afternoon thunderstorm, but that's summer in Florida.
Weather Bad Break
Bad weather the night before, led to a muddy track. Unfortunate.
Rain day
Good until number 13 then the bottom fell out waited an hour at the restroom. Played 15 in and got it done. Greens were sound but some tee’s needed some help. Overall enjoyed the course but would have been nice to get all 18 in maybe next time.
Course was ok, but staff...
Without a doubt the worst staff at any golf course I've ever been to. Extremely rude. Had the starter tell me to go back to the clubhouse and get your money back if you don't like how I'm talking to you.
There's plenty of golf near Tampa, this is a course that should be avoided at all cost. Drainage was poor.. fairways were in rough shape. Greens were extremely inconsistent. Overall 2/10. And it only gets a 2, because I got to play golf that day. Best case scenario, this course goes out of business.
Plantation Palms
The course is beautiful and in great shape. My cart was rickety, and the pace of play wasn't very good, but I'd definitely return, but maybe during the week when it's not so crowded.
Needs work
They are currently working on quite a bit of spots on the course. I feel like the price should reflect based on the areas they are working on. This course is in the middle of a neighborhood with everyone’s back yard facing tee boxes and greens and they don’t care if you are trying to golf. That’s super distracting. It’s not a bad course though layout is pretty tough for an amateur golfer. I shot a 79 and am a 12 handicap. I had a good round but it’s a shooters course. Greens are pretty quick and will only get quicker as the summer wears on.
Getting better and better
This course was really bad for a while but very cheap to play. They have worked hard over the last few years to improve the course and make bring it up to par with the course around it. If you go there in the afternoon it is a steal to play there. Still a little pricey on most mornings.
Memorial Day play
The staff: really friendly, cart person was zipping through the course, which was good on a warm day.
Driving range: needs some attention, hitting through crabgrass, not fun.
Course: was in good, not great shape. Some of the fairways are in less than ideal condition. Same for some of the greens.
