Plantation Palms Golf Club
About
Plantation Palms Golf Club, designed by David Harman, provides every Tampa golfer with a challenging and rewarding golf experience. The links-style design starts with a welcoming par 5, and then slowly steps up with a mixture of strong par 3s. Just 10 minutes north of Tampa, this course was carved a 400-acre citrus grove that slopes from west to east, providing interesting elevation changes. Water is in play on 17 of 18 holes. Plantation Palms Golf Club has an attractive framing of greens by the use of pine trees, water and large snow-white sand traps. The true-rolling elevated greens have good movement and are a challenge for golfers.

Great day.
Great outing for the cost, and paired up with retired firefighter who was a pleasure to play with.
Going to be grestr!!!!
Time is needed to turn this course totally around. Plays OK now considering the time of year.Better than most courses around. Plays long for most of the Snowbirds. Great to play from forward tee. Play is very slow with no starter present and no ranger to move the flow. Literally waited on every tee. Too many doubles that should be paired up. A lot of slow players but they have the right to play but the need some guidance to keep them moving so everyone enjoys a good walk ruined. I will play again.
Really enjoy playing this course. It offers a challenge for all levels.
Over priced but improving
I have played this course about 12-15x since it reopened 13 months ago. It is in the best condition I've seen it so far. Unfortunately it's very overpriced for the condition it's in. Probably $10-15 more than it's worth. I paid $32 on a tee time special! Everyone else payed in the $40s.
Here's my review.
TEE BOXES... challenging tee positions and no cheap par 3s. Lots of water and hazards carry from the tee box.
FAIRWAYS... Thin but they are still young. Green and consistent. No forgiveness if you miss the fairway though.
GREENS... Slow. The grain feels inconsistent. Very challenging and hard to read. The fringe is still horrible and a lot of 2-3 foot wide pot holes in the outer parts of grrr green.
RANGE...large grass range with cheap balls. Can't beat That
Amenities... Friendly staff and cart girl. Great food at the new sports bar inside.
Bottom line... I'm a 7.5 handicap who looks for value. This course is not worth $40 no matter what time. $25-30 at the most. Next year, I am sure it will be a different story.
FIRST ROUND BUT NOT THE LAST.
I guess this course was closed for a while and reopened last year. I was wanting to play and the reviews are trending upward so i saw a great price and decided to finally give Paradise Palms a go. I sadly picked a very windy, cold day to play.
LIKES: I liked that you start on a par five. the whole course has cement cart paths which is nice. Greens putted fair, the fairways have been overseeded and were also very playable. This course is not a short course plays 6000 from the white tees which requires a little more length off the tees than many area courses. I shot an 84 and did not pull my driver. Nice layout overall.
NOT SO MUCH: They still need to improve the traps and bunkers on many of the holes with more/better sand. Grass growing back in completely will take a little more time but is ongoing.
I look forward to playing this course again on a sunny warm day (soon)!
Turfking...Thanks for visiting and thank you for your feedback as we do appreciate it. So sorry to hear about your choice of day to play and the conditions you faced while you played. This David Harman design is tough enough as it is already. We hope you had a great experience overall and look forward to your next visit. Have a great week! -RK
What a turnaround!!
I played here a year ago and the greens were not good and the fairways were so so. Today it was a 180 degree change for the better!! There were only a couple of bad spots in two greens and the fairways and tees were great. Kudos to the superintendent and staff. It was chilly this morning so I went out alone so I cannot comment on the pace of play. Kathy in the pro shop was very friendly and helpful. I did not stay for lunch. I will definitely be back!
Thanks for the awesome review and rating Joe! We are glad you had a great time and we look forward to seeing you out here again soon. Have a great week! -RK
Still rough around the edges
First time playing here. Before this course closed, I never tried it due to numerous reviews saying the rounds were over 5 hrs...Decided to give it a try after it reopened.
The tee boxes and fairways have fresh looking overseed grass growing in and look great from a distance, but once you get up close to them, you will see that the grass is very thin and sparse. The greens were slow to medium in speed and many had sandy spots on them, with the first green having some pretty deep sanded holes along the first few feet of the front of the green. I'm not sure how the course looked before it re opened, since most of the latest reviews say its looking good. It was a decent value if you get it on a cheap hot deal, but not worth much more. Still needs some improving. No cart service on a Saturday, and carts are not allowed in the parking lot so, coolers are forbidden. You can tell its on the mend, so maybe by the summer the conditions will be ideal.
Whats going on Rhino! Sounds like you had a rough day on the course this past Saturday. Regrettably we do have a couple issues on a couple holes as previously mentioned in a couple other reviews. We do keep the pin positions away from those trouble spots on the two holes so it shouldn't impede play. Our beverage cart service always runs on Saturday, what time did you go out? Overall we always appreciate everyone's comments and we look forward to seeing you come out next time. Have a great week! -RK
Cyberczar! Thanks for the great review and rating. we look forward to seeing you come out next time. Don't forget to book your tee time on www.plantationpalms.net next time you plan on coming out. Thanks again and have a great week! -RK
Staff, fairways, greens and Mulligans Irish pub
First time coming to here and couldn’t have been happier! Open fairways with beautiful scenery. The greens have a beautiful roll to them. A little challenging since I’m not the best golfer, but well worth every dime. The staff is very friendly and the food at mulligans Irish pub is amazing. Will definitely be back with more friends.
first time in two or three years
I enjoyed playing the course. The greens were excellent. Overall this course is back on my radar. I play numerous courses in the area.
Great to see course back up and running, go play!!
I've played this course in the past many times from the tips back when I could score well. From the tips and with a slope rating of 139 it's all you want. I wouldn't go to the tips unless you're breaking 80. I was soooo glad to hear this course was up and running again as it's a very nice track. When I showed up, much to my surprise they installed a putt putt course which looks really nice and if you're tied with you buddies, makes a great playoff option. It was cold this Sat and since I now only play once a week if lucky without any practice, I played from the whites. (91 with 2 triples so I 'm still hacking lol)course was in nice shape..was a little wet so you won't get much roll out on drives. The greens were rolling pretty true, not overly fast but not slow either. There's only 1 green with little problems(1st par 3) other than that, it's well on it's way to become one of Pasco's finest once again. The range is great and you hit from grass!! Get out there and support this course so it can continue to grow and improve. Thanks Plantation, very glad to see you back!!! I'll return again very soon.
Much Improved Course
Course continues to recover well from being closed for years and then the ravages of Hurricane Irma. Fairways are fairly wide open, but with traps placed strategically. Some challenging par 3s. Greens in mostly in good condition.
A much more improved courese. Very fast greens. The course shows no signs of the previous challenges it has faced. A very successful come back.
Friendly and Responsive Staff
I thoroughly enjoyed my round of golf at Plantation Palms. The course was in great shape and provided a very fair and challenging experience. I really appreciated the friendly and responsive staff. I was visiting relatives in the area and I can tell you that a course of this caliber in the Philadelphia area would be $70-$90 a round.
Great Progress
It was so nice to see this course start to really show improvement. The fairways are becoming lusher as are the greens. The greens were a little bumpy in spots, but generally rolled well, with moderate speed.
The greens are located on mounds with fairly steep sides, so you cannot easily roll the ball up to the green-you have to reach them on a fly. They are a little hard, so low shots will roll off the back or sides.
This is a VERY challenging course and requires some longer carries and skill to score well. Many greens are well protected by traps-although the traps could use some more maintenance. I said about a year ago that this would someday be a GREAT course, and it is well on its way to being one.
I do not recommend this course for beginners or high handicap players-you will have a long, unhappy day with lots of lost balls. Please note that the slope is 139! I don't think there are many courses in the Tampa area that have anything near such a high rating. I saw a comment that this course is boring, and the exact opposite is true. There are new and unique challenges on every hole.
If you're looking for a course where you can hit it any length you want, and in any direction and never lose a ball, this is definitely not the place for you. But the better players should flock here for a great challenge while the prices remain low.
Happy I went and will be back for sure
Let me start by saying this was the first time at this course ever so I have nothing to compare it to back when it first opened which I heard was amazing. Anyways let me start out by saying the staff is AMAZING !! If I could have given 10 stars I would have. I was a single player and they worked to get get me out with a group that would fit my playing ability. What was amazing is I even met up with a staff member 1/2 way through my round asking me how I was doing and if the pace of play was ok. Just awesome !! I loved the course layout and really only knocked down the Pace of Play to Good only because it could have been just a little better. I've been on other courses where its been horrific so really it wasn't that bad. And I only gave the course conditions a good because I know they will be continually working on this course and I need to leave room for that Excellent rating in the future !! The group I was playing with actually came in from Largo. I will be back for sure and look forward to introducing this course to my brother in the near future.
Keep up the great work, kudos to the grounds-keepers !!!
Not Player Friendly
Some greens in poor shape, some holes are designed poorly for the average golfer
Nice and Challenging
Nice course. You need to manage your shots. Greens were goof, not too fast
What's going on and thank you for your feedback. We always love hearing back from guests who visit and their comments. I would first like to know where your friends booked as our highest rate is $34.95 plus tax. Maybe they bought some merchandise or range balls with their round as well? Your comments on the tee boxes, fairways and greens were very well thought out and precise, thank you. For the greens we are not creating a fringe or collar around them as we love the natural look it displays. This is somewhat unconventional but, we wanted to give our course a different look than the rest. Why look like everyone else when you can be different? Finally, lucky for you most of our prices are $25-$30 all week long. Please refer to www.plantationpalms.net and book your tee time directly through our website. Once again, thank you for your feedback and we look forward to seeing you back out here. Have a great week!
