The Club at Venetian Bay
About
The Club at Venetian Bay is part of a unique residential community with a Mediterranean theme. Colorful buildings, mosaics, and Mediterranean vegetation surround the championship golf course. The biggest challenge for the designers was transforming what was formerly a cow pasture into a lush, challenging course. The design team of Clifton, Ezell, and Clifton seemed to have little trouble doing so. The front nine plays through the woods while the back nine is more open with a few links-style touches. The most prominent feature of this golf course is the abundance of sand bunkers. There are more than 100 strategically placed throughout. The bunkers present a formidable test but they are nicely balanced with ample landing areas. They are also geared more towards low handicappers, which means they aren't intended to kill your round.

I was warned
when discussing going there with someone, I was warned to not be fooled by the uptick in price over the last year and the increase in people playing there, which lead me to believe that the course would be at least in the condition that it was a few years ago. I was told that this course was sadly another one of the far too many golf courses in central Florida where the bar of expectations is set really low. I don’t put all the blame on the courses. The people need to force that bar up a lot higher. After arriving and going to the practice area, my first thought was ugh. Bumpy weeds everywhere. I love playing golf, but it has been a massive disappointment trying out these courses in central Florida. Even the private courses leave a lot to be desired. Pace of play is another problem. Although you sometimes have the problem of those who are in front of you playing as if its a qualifier for the next major, incredibly slow, the usual problem are the inconsiderate ones behind you who are not interested in how well they play, its how fast they can play. You would think that we are not in Florida instead in Siberia. Then it would make sense how you would want to 18 holes in an hour and a half.
Great staff, average course
It’s been a year since the last time I golfed here. Our tee time was 10:57am. Staff is professional and courteous. Check in with the GolfNow app was simple. The food is very good. Just like most other courses in this area, the dry wether is not helping the conditions of the fairways. But they have been able to maintain all the tee boxes and the back nine greens very well. The greens on the front nine are experiencing an outbreak of invasive grass which makes putting a challenge. The only unfortunate part of the day was a group in front of us attempting photo shoots of a young lady on every hole. The groups behind us had to wait, while we waited on every tee box for the group in the fairway to wait for the photoshoot to clear out in front of them. Fortunately, the photoshop tended after the front nine. Will be returning on Monday for a Northeast Florida Senior Golf Association tournament.
Have You Ever Seen The Rain... or just water...of any kind.
Great staff. My first time there in years... my son's first time. Proshop and starter were awesome to us. Directions, pairings... all well done. Like every other course in the area... it needs water and/or rain. The course is a fun layout. The greens were in tough shape, very bumpy. Could've used a good rolling and some serious TLC. I'll give it another shot after rainy season.
this course is under STRESS
grass condition on fairway and greens sub par
your paying $75 for a course that is struggling.
If you like weeds and terribly diseased greens this is the spot. Granted we are in a dry spell, but these weeds have been there a while. Cmon man!
greens rolling nice
course is in good condition especially considering the drought and the winter grass to summer, very fun round,
Bone dry. Super slow pace. No ranger. 5 minute wait every hole. Over priced. Better pray for rain.
Course is good considering no rain. Fast greens. Really slow play. Mostly caused by golfers playing wrong tee boxes. Everyone thinks they drive the ball 250 yards. Guess again.
Parched
Great staff and amenities. Starter was accommodating to us as my son is a beginner. Like most courses in the area, the course is DRY. Greens need a lot of help. Slightly overpriced but fun to play.
Greens are terrible!!
What is going on with the greens at Venetian Bay?
This used to be one of my favorite courses in the area…but their greens are terrible…I don’t play again, until I know the greens are improved!!
Slow
Waited on every hole, no ranger. Almost 5 hour round.
When I checked in the guy at the counter was making gift cards for winners of something and never acknowledged that I was there until he was done writing them out and ringing them up. So much for waiting on a customer at the counter!
Disappointed
Several people told us to try this course. It was one of their favorites. We were disappointed. Fairways decent although we expected more grass. Only difference between the fairways and the rough are the weeds and trees. The greens had little turfs of grass growing on it which made your ball putt as if it were a giant pinball machine. The layout was average. This course did challenge you with its water and sand traps. The personnel were great! Very friendly. Now I think back a couple of years ago when we ran into a foursome at another area course and they told us they lived at the Venetian Bay but liked the course we were playing better. I always wondered why since, but never pulled the plug until it was recommended. Again, disappointed...
