What could be
This layout is one if not the best I’ve played here in Florida but the course conditions are pretty sad. They clearly are trying and with all the construction of new home around it I suspect they will improve. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if someday this is a course we say we used to play before it either went under, or is so exclusive that it’s no longer open to the public. Time will tell but we all agreed that even though it’s over an hour away we will be back. If you want to see how good you really are on a tough track give it a try.
Very Poor Conditions
I know we had a freeze, which turns grass brown, and I get that. But the conditions of the course are terrible and from the looks of it were that way before the freeze. They did have nice green rye on most of the tees, but the fairways were terrible. The greens were so-so but still need a lot of work. I would not play here again until I am sure that much improvement has occurred. This used to be a great course, but unfortunately has gone to ...... Management needs to put money into the course and not their pocikets..
The course needs someone to give it some love
The greens and tee boxes are ok. The rest of the course is pretty rough conditions. The cart paths are in terrible condition.
Ugh
Fairways are cow pastures, cart paths destroyed my back, massive construction going on. Place is beat up bad.
Always a good day at Indian River
When Laurie is there at the Pro Shop to greet us you know it will be a great day at the course.
Preserve? LOL
Indian River Preserve is hardly a preserve. They have already and are still in the process of cutting down thousands and thousands of trees. It's really sad. The place was truly a beautiful Florida forest and is now a barren landscape that feels like a desert. There are hardly any trees left around the houses and course.
The course is in pretty rough shape, but the greens and tees have improved.
Probably won't play there again unless it's really cheap.
Why would a single (walking) think they could jump in front of our foursome at the turn?
The course was very busy, and all groups were in carts. When we made the turn, there was a single hitting off #10 with a pull cart and a loudspeaker playing music on his cart. A call to the pro shop resulted in prompt action when the Pro came out and made certain that the single was not in position on the course and that he would NOT impede our progress.
The staff handled the incident professionally and in a timely manner.
Front 9
Only played 9 today because I had the little one with me. Staff was awesome and the course is slowly getting better. Some of the fairways need some help but the greens were good, just very slow. Better than it was in the summer. Hopefully it keeps improving. Lots of nature being knocked down around the course is a bummer. Ruining what was a really pretty course.
Has potential
The staff was pleasant and responsive. The clubhouse and restaurant along with the pro shop, seem out of place with the poor conditions and lack of maintenance of the course. The rough and surrounding vegetation is over grown, leading to any shot, even slightly astray, to be very difficult to find let alone play. There are large amounts od garbage along the course just of the cart path. If not for the Hot deal this would have been a huge waste of money.
Used to be one of my favorites
I haven’t played here in over a year and thought if it improves after that amount of time, I’d start playing it again. I was disappointed to say the least. I found the fairways still have not been leveled out and are still very bumpy…fairway potholes would be an accurate description. The greens on the front putted very slow. The first cuts on the whole course are much taller than a ball so your chances of finding it are 3 in 10. The 12th hole, par 3 over water isn’t even visible after the years growth as was the 17th hole, par 4. The fairway was completely blocked from view. If you’ve never played it, you would not have a clue as to where you should drive the ball. I will not be going back, unfortunately, because of these conditions. What I can say positively about the course is that it has a great layout on the back 9 with no homes…pure and natural Florida which appears to be reclaiming the land.
Fun but not the best maintenance
Love the course but the maintenance is lacking. Should not lose multiple balls that were hit just off the fairway but the grass is so long. That is compounded by the amount of blind shots around the course. This isnt the U.S. Open, shouldnt be so hard to find your shot. A few tee boxes were also really rough with barely anywhere to setup comfortably. That said, it's still a good value and the staff is great.
One step forward, two steps back
The greens are nice but the tee boxes, the fairways are so rough, apparently they can’t keep help. Bobby Jones golf is managing the course, but the overall health of this track has changed for the worse.
Let the single play through. Walking is faster than being in carts by the way.
